So imagine a small child’s smiling face as he looks to his parents who begin to explain that the lovely fluffy teddy bear with the big beautiful eyes and cute nose is actually stuffed with toxic stuffing and made in a factory using child labour. The child’s smile then turns first to puzzlement and then to a sad pout. I have been researching new chairs and I had my eye on this one. Ive checked that other guys vid on the three faults and also re-checked the website. On the time of this comment they have 2072 reviews with an average of 4.6 out of 5 stars. And yes, amazingly not one, one star review is listed. A lot of RU-vidrs use the term ‘Honest’ in their titles however you have to wonder about a minority of them especially given their relationship to the products manufacturer. IMO you’ve given a wholly honest review backed up with good reasoning and explanations. Thanks for sharing Tech I, Oh, can you recommend any other ergonomic chairs please 😊
@@brimstone5931 Sadly, a lot of those same 'honest' YT'ers... are the very ones who aren't properly or fully (some, not at all) disclosing as required... those 'connections' you mention. The past 3 yrs or so, really digging into & looking at a LOT of my fav channels in many genres, I've subscribed to & enjoyed over the past decade.... we'll just say "mind... blowing". The number actually doing what they should, when, where, how.... in the single digits... IF THAT. So disgusted I unsubscribed from most of 'em. Soooo..... unfortunately, most reviews, should be taken w/ grain of salt & without giving benefit of doubt (unfortunately) Wish it were different, but... $$$ talks ... as do freebies & commissions.... even if, at OUR expense. This chair was fairly easy to put together, the instructions were clear and I was about to follow along with no issues at all. It took me about 20 minutes to assemble. ru-vid.comUgkx5hPALGI87E991DRmXev8PUFJGrrRcONS I did stuff the back of the chair with a pillow so it wouldn’t be so hollow after taking all the pieces out but that’s just a personal preference. I also added a pillow for lumbar support because although this is a great chair and is comfortable, it’s not necessarily the best if you’re sitting 10+ hrs a day wfh but in all honesty for the price, I didn’t mind at all. It looks great in my space and easily adjusts the height when needed.
As a US citizen that is thoroughly fed up with all these corporate con artists, I want to say thank you. I was looking at the Autonomous store page quite a bit and was heavily considering purchasing from them. Not now. Take my like and subscribe.
To be honest, I am not sure if I am glad. I am tired of searching for a decent mid ranger ergonomic chair. EVERY chair in this range seems to have issues. I just can't anymore
Thank you so much for being completely honest and digging deep with the research. I'm trying to narrow down ergo chairs and had a few in mind, this being one of them high on the list. I will not be buying this chair now, or if so, from a place that sells it at its actual retail price! Big props for going the extra mile here, really appreciated this!
Super appreciate your approach to reviewing this! Seems there's just a whole mess of brands these days marketing products with a "trendy" and cutting-edge design that's really just a thinly veiled cover for shady business practice and poor quality control. The telltale sign is usually the barrage of targeted ads you get immediately after visiting the website- hounding you to make a quick decision before you find an honest review like this one. Again, many thanks!
I'm glad I came by this video before deciding to buy this chair. Looking at their website I cannot find a single product that has a 1-star review. Actually they display a full five stars on every single product, even a simple cable tray. This smells to high heavens and I'm definitely staying away from that.
I hate myself for taking advice from a friend about buying the ErgoChair Pro+. I'm currently 4 days into having my chair. I wanted to return it on day one as my gaming chair was still far more comfortable. Now I'm in the middle of a huge battle with Autonomous trying to get a refund. So far the only thing they are offering is me keeping the chair I have while sending me a brand new one. I don't see a replacement fixing the issues with comfort. A really shady company that I would 10/10 stay clear from.
I got this chair back in black friday. I love it as a short dude. Comfortable and sleek and I totally agree on the north/south wobble and the arm rest shift-- I am continuously looking for a way to fix this. After seeing this review and seeing how they handle their company, its left a bad taste in my mouth. I keep the chair but expect me to look else where in the years to come.
I subbed to your channel 16 mins in, after showing the one star review deletion. You're fantastic my man, never change and please keep the consumer focused honesty reviews. Cheers!
Thanks for the honest review, to be straight up I was sold on this chair until I saw this video which is now leading me to further research. If you truly don't believe in the company, id rather help you by becoming a patreon or through some other means than give a "shady" company my money. I'm just a bit confuse about he affiliate Link
@@Geogak I put the affiliate link there as a joke. People seem to be using it thoough I would get credit to their store which I don't plan to use. We have a patreon! Would be glad to have you join :) We haven't added much but more is on the way. www.patreon.com/join/techilliterate
Can you explain a bit more about how this company is breaking the law in canada. I bought the standing desk from there and its been working fine. Was interested in this chair until now

Wow I enjoyed every minute of this video. You are super underrated. You definitely gave me some very good information that has for sure changed my mind about this chair. Keep up the good work!!!
Your smug look when your review was gone, priceless. Great video, honest and combating the rampant censorship and plagarism plaquing our markets now. Thank you
If you’d like the armrests further back all the time you can take off the whole armrest and switch the left and right side. It’s useful if your desk hits the armrests or you only want an elbow rest.
Thank you for this REAL and honest review. I was interested in buying this chair. Glad i search for reviews for hours, just to find the reddit post and later watching Gamer Nexus chair review and now your video. I am so dissapointed now about the Autonomous Ergochair 2.
Wow, this was actually in my final few chairs I was considering purchasing this weekend, really glad I ran across this video. I think I’m just going to bite the bullet and get a Steelcase.
@@ubreak13 I went with the Steelcase Series 1. Wanted a Leap or Gesture, but just couldn’t get myself to spend that much knowing that I will eventually get called back into the office 2-3 days per week.
@@xTWEAKMYSTERo While this is something I'd do, their heinous "everything has to be perfect when we get it back from you or you pay 30% extra" is very off-putting.
Just go to your local office supply store and test out chairs. Can probably find something as good or better quality without the huge markup. Most of these online chair companies have to charge huge markups to make up for their shipping and marketing costs. I enjoy the convenience of online shopping as much as the next guy, but when it comes to a product like a chair the inconvenience of visiting a brick and mortar store is generally worth the effort.
I personally had bought this chair and have been using it for around a year now, and the few general problems ive had this chair are as follows... 1. The lumbar support personally is too low for me, and has not enough height adjustment for my back and i feel uncomfortable using it for around after an hour of sitting. 2. the headrest also does not have great adjustment either, and seems to not quite come forward enough in my opinion. So it feels mildly discomforting when i lean back my head. But maybe thats just me. 3. this ones more of just a nitpick as i personally perfer my arm rests to be off the chair entireley anyways, but I do not like the way the arm rest adjusts. It doesnt lock in any position except up and down, and it barely has any pivot adjustment for my hands to comfortably rest on my keyboard while typing, so honestly if you plan to type with this chair you would be better off removing the arm rests entirely like I did. 4. The *height adjustment*. Ok, its pretty pathetic. literally just toots up like 2 inches and then is already maxed out, so thats kinda lame. But overall, I had a good experience with this chair. The light green seat perfectly matches my setup theme, the ordering proscess was good. And, its just plain comfortable (from an ergonomic standpoint ofc). I can either have the chair right up against my back when im playing competative games. Or i can lean the chair back and watch some movies. Yes, its a little expensive, but honestly what outher options are there on the marklet for chairs like this? For what I can tell, not really many. So for that reason I would definetley recommend this chair to anyone looking for an ergonomic upgrade to their setup. If you have any questions about the chair, feel free to ask away.
i know! i gave a really honest review 3 start, pretty fair which i believe, we ordered two, one is okay, another one is defective, (i.e. the gear doesn't math the hole) but the web deleted th review right away lol
Best chair review I have seen. . . after watching over 100. . . Pretty much everyone is shilling one way or the other just for the clicks and views. You walk away feeling like you learned absolutely nothing. Not the case here. In fact, you bring the receipts to back up what you say. Well done.
I bought an ErgoChair2. This is a great review. Many ErgoChair reviews are sponsored and not accurate. This is a good reality check for anyone looking for a chair. Its not the end all be all. However, I’ll just say I’ve owned it since May and used it for 8 hours every day since for remote working. I have greatly enjoyed it and enjoy all the adjustability even if its not perfect. It’s also 100% much better quality than the alibaba knock offs. My seat cushion while not THE BEST has not collapsed at all in 8 months of heavy heavy use and still only starts getting uncomfortable after 8+ hours of use. Definitely not a cheap alibaba cushion. I am also 5’10 and 200lb, I think a common theme is that it doesn’t seem to work as well for people over 6ft. Regardless, great review and the company is certainly shady but I do firmly believe the chair is worth the money.
So you are ok with this chair sitting 8 hours a day i am 5'10 200lbs so it should be good for me. I like adjustability but just concern about cushion. Is it comfortable enough i dont expect it to last forever
@@slavonskibecar Yeah the cushion is pretty comfortable. I have no problem sitting in it 8 hours a day. Sometimes my butt does get sore by the end of the day but I dont think you can get around that without getting a herman miller or something with high quality mesh.
@@studido Well nobody should seat that long without moving however I was seating in Herman Miller but didn't like it since it puts lots of pressure on thighs
everyone talking about how you steered them away from this company ( which is true in my case too), but you gained a sub and i really like your content man!
When I was looking for a chair back in June, I considered this one but quickly decided against it. I also came across mentions of it being rebranded and like you, was dubious about there being zero 1-star reviews on their website.
Smart, honest, fair, great review.. You nailed it bro. By the way I do not have a problem with their pricing and marketing strategy but that censoring the 1 stars thing is simply disgusting. I would never buy from such company. (My first ever comment in YT)
It is actually a lot more common than people think for companies like Autonomous to just buy their products from China, rebrand them & then charge 10x more.
I really was considering spending a few thousand dollars on a desk + chair combo from Autonomous, but now I've reconsidered after watching this video. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for the honest review. I bought the desk - frame only. It’s now on its way to the UK. I’ve seen other reviews on the XL top being very wobbly. My plan is to have a top with no more than 140cm. About the chair.... your comments left me undecided. Would love to be able to buy a hummer miller but that is out of my budget. Anyway, thanks a lot for your insightful consumer contribution.
wow this is really good review because it hits the point you realise once you actually use the chair, not just features it provides which you can just read of the description
@@jeroensum_ Nice choice, how do you like it? im still in between figuring it out. So many options, Im hoping to pick a set and try for a black friday deal on either or.
@@jibrilxisreal8037 Mesh seating is something you need to get used to as it is a bit of a stern seat, however after a few weeks I was hooked on the seating, the different settings and the build quality. I would recommend testing one before buying or getting one for a trial period if possible as they do come with quite a pricetag.
@@jeroensum_ i dont know where I could test one out. I would love to. And yes it is expensive but my at home work has been ramping up and I cant stand the chair im in. Its old and has no adjustments i use a pillow on the seat and back. Im not to concerned about price but I want a chair good for desk work and occasional gaming in front of a tv that has ergonomically sound features and comfort for long periods or short leisure moments.
5’9” 205lbs. Had mine for about 6mon. Not comfortable at all. Armrests are rocks, cushion bottoms out. Chair creaks and has a fair amount of play in almost all of the parts. Lumbar support and headrest feel great when reclined. Wish I would have bought a used Aeron. My wife, about 5’7” maybe 115lbs, loves it.
I found it funny you mentioned the part where they rebrand these chairs. It's true, we have this exact same chair being sold here in the Philippines under a different brand. Different company of course that's selling it here. That's part of the course for buying stuff like these. Someone in china makes it or takes your design and makes it for you. Some cases the manufacturers in china have a template that you can request from and make some degree of modifications and then you can just have them slap your brand onto it. Of course you need a rather large amount of funds to get to those low price points where you can buy these buy the bulk and then have someone else resell these items. End of the day, nice review. Looks similar to the ones we can buy here locally in the Philippines except the ones we got seem sturdier (at least I think so, had a look at the chair in the mall and local reviewers have said so too). Our version here doesn't seem to squeak and rock as much. Sold for around $250 - $300 USD for us here.
I almost bought one of these. Thanks for the review! I just wish I knew where else to look for $400 range chair that's no frills, but solid, comfy. Just your Honda Accord of chairs.
To tip teh chair base back a bit, use washers underneath. Where the bolt goes from the base into the underside of the seat, put washer there at the front.
The reviews getting removed is a big problem. However, a good bit of news about them. I have an OsmoChair and was looking into getting another. They did not have any. After a while on the phone the reason I wanted another was that it was squeaking. The tech looked to see if they could get a replacement part and could not. Over a year after I purchased it, it was still under warranty. The refunded my price, and I did not have to send in the squeaking chair. With that, I was able to get almost two KinnChairs with head and leg rests. The major difference is, they don't have the mesh base and some of the adjustability. At the price, they are pretty comfortable. You cant even get a used Herman Miller for $199. The Osmo still squeaks a little but three chairs for a little over the price of the Osmo is hard to beat.
Literally every gaming chair comes from the same manufacturer. That's how manufacturing works. However, the quality of components are chosen from the client, they are not the same chairs materially.. only in design.
I was about to purchase this exact chair, good thing I came across your review. lol. Saved me a lot of headache. Now back to finding another ergonomic chair. If you have a suggestion please let me know. Thanks
I bought the chair back in October, and it took me a long time to get used to the seat cushion. Had you posted your review earlier I might have looked somewhere else. But in all honesty, whenever you search ergonomic chairs on the internet, autonomous always come up and it is cheaper than most other brands, even in Canada. I'm still waiting for their smart desk to come in next month to complete the overhaul of my home office, I pray it will be worth the money
Very interesting review. I bought this chair back in May and it is holding up very well and is extremely comfortable. It has its flaws and honestly you can't exact satisfy everyone. I just bought the smart desk which hasn't came in yet. But very alarming and informative review. The biggest catch is when you are in the market for a smart desk or ergonomic chair you really cannot beat the price for the quality of the product and its competitors. Overall if anyone is reading this, I have to share my experience and my satisfaction with their product and this company. It's really good & you cannot beat the price when it comes to being in the market for these smart office products.
Almost placed the order for chair, glad I came across this video. Thanks for sharing your experience with the chair and the company. Wondering if you have recommendations for other ergo chairs?
such an odd feeling as I recently purchased both their smart desk 2 premium and ergo chair and so far I'm extremely happy with both purchases. The review censoring is not cool, now I'm less likely to recommend them even though I'm loving "their" products
Based on your review this is decent chair not the highest quality but it is decent and as you put it is comfortable. As long as cushion is decent then it is all good. Of course these days we buy things off the internet and if you want to buy something you have to try it and cant do it right now. Sure enough lots of companies buy from China but many companies do that and then rebrand them as theirs which is not big deal. I am about to order this chair and if it lasts 2 years I am all good with it what I like is many adjustments. Just to say a month ago I sat in Herman Miller Aeron both B and C type and didn't really like it although many people say it is great i didn't feel comfortable seating on mesh which again it is personal preference.
I also just ordered it as you're able to try it out for a month. I am currently using a racing chair and it sucks ass. I'd like it to last a good 5 years but confort is what matters the most .
I fell right into that trap with them. Bought their sit/stand desk frame w/ digital pad (awesome I love it). I also bought their adjustable stool. Well, that stool they sell for $99 is all over the internet for.... $59-$65. Why? Its rebranded, same with the desk frame, same with everything they sell. I am not "dissing" the company for that type of business model, just don't LIE and misrepresent. Which they do eagerly. This type of business model crosses into most retail product (tv's, monitors, phones, HDD, SSD's, etc etc etc) Its when they misrepresenting themselves to the customer as a manufacture, designer and original creator of something their not. Great video and review, you did a good service informing people.
I ordered an Ergo 2 moments ago, I'm pretty desperate at this point to get a new chair because my Ikea chair is shocking and I can't find ANY size C proffessionally refurbished Herman Miller Areon's in the UK. RU-vid recommended your video after watching it I cancelled my order straight away for a refund [ always use paypal to checkout if it's an option so they can handle refunds for you ]. After reading those reddit posts I'm disgusted I'm not giving my hard earned money to the equivalent of scalpers. It's sooooooo dificult at the moment to find a good mid range ergonomic chair for a ok price it's either crap quality or a "gaming chair" or at least £600 - £700 for a high end chair. I've been looking for around 4 months now with no success anyway thankyou for not being clickbait, sharing all this info and sheding more light on a scummy comany I guess the hunt continues, au revoir 😉
I use their office table, it’s well constructed and stable. Like most products, you can’t know how it fits your likings till you try them for your self.
I've been shopping for a desk and chair for a couple weeks now and always felt Autonomous products were overhyped. Now it kinda makes sense why a $400 chair seems like a $75 chair.
Good thing I skipped out on this chair and got a less well known chair by the name of Clatina. Has most of the features the Autonomous has for half the price (well, not anymore since they up'd it). So far, I'm liking my chair 1 year in and no rocking movements back and forth.. although that stupid "4D" armrest is annoying exactly how you explained it.
A direct quote from Autonomus Customer Support: “I'm sorry, all Autonomous products purchased from dealers or resellers are not eligible for warranty, and we only sell the replacement parts for customers, who bought products directly from Autonomous”
Currently in the market for a new chair and this made me pass on them. I'll probably pick one up the HON Boda Series from costco due to their excellent return policy. If your still on the market for an adjustable desk I'd recommend getting one from Monoprice (which if you look at it closely its the same base as the auto) or the Seville desk from Costco which also same manufacture as uplift. If you go monoprice you can do your own top out of wood/ go home depot or lowes and it will look way more expensive.
I have one of their standing desks which I love, but they seem shady to me. Their customer service was nonexistent and when my order didn't ship when it was supposed to, they didn't reply to my email, and refused to answer their phone (you would be on hold for 20 or 30 minutes and then it would tell you no one was there and hang up on you, basically a big FU). When I finally got through to someone they didn't really know anything, but I did eventually get my desk. I saw on the internet that they have MANY complaints.
Pretty good review of the chair itself as I'm still looking for one to fit my criteria. I've gone through 5 desk/gaming chairs in the last 2 years at great expense due to mechanical failures. From the piston losing pressure and sinking to the tilt mechanisms failing after only two to three months of use. I'm 6'2" and 320 pounds and have yet to find a decent chair over the last 2 years that actually stands up to everyday use. As far as re-branding is concerned, a lot of companies do it, especially tool companies. From power tools to hand tools that are made in China, many companies use the same manufacturer/factory with their own labels on them. It's pretty rampant across the board from furniture to tools to kitchen appliances etc... Thanks again for the review and I'll keep this chair in mind when I narrow it down to a few. Cheers!
Have you had any luck finding a decent chair? I'm in the same boat. I'm 6' 1" and 330 lbs. I have a couple chairs that are built like tanks (zero failures) but are quite uncomfortable. I've added foam and a memory foam pillow on top to make my current chair comfortable enough to sit for a couple hours. I haven't bought one or sat in one but I've heard good thing about the "HON Wave Mesh Big and Tall Executive Chair" for large individuals. There is a quite a few glowing review by big and tall individuals.
I bought an ErgoChair 2 back in September, and honestly I couldn't disagree with you more. A friend of mine purchased one of the cheap knockoffs from Alibaba and it was no where near the level of quality as my Ergochair 2. Rebranded or not, if it comes from a certain manufacturer they have the option to choose higher quality components, which they obviously are. My chair doesn't have wobble or anything, I would suggest tightening your screws or something. The chair is great other then the mediocre seat cushion (Get an Xtreme Comforts from Amazon), and if you think there's a better chair out there for $350 you won't find one. This chair is made for people under 6'3 and 220lbs.
@@TechIlliterate I get that, and I also get that some chairs just don't feel good for different body types. If you take a look at Gamers Nexus most recent chair video, the Autonomous consistently came out as a preferred chair in a blind test. It's a well rounded chair and while I do agree it's probably overpriced a bit, for $300 on sale you truly can't find much better in that price range. After sitting in other chairs you start to really appreciate all the fine tuning the Ergochair offers to get a good sitting exerience. I've enhanced my chair with that Xtreme Comforts cushion on Amazon and it's like sitting on a cloud now, and I've also gotten a Mind Reader foot rest that has tilting capabilities. It's definitely made the chair much better and highly recommend taking a look at things to improve your experience with the chair.
Very useful, I appreciate the two parts of looking at the chair and then the company itself. I was also considering buying the smart desk / chair combo and after seeing this video here and others, I am less inclined to do so now... cheers mate!
theres hardly anyone nowdays really crafting something , lot of people would be disappointed to figure out that 90% of good are brand slapped china you can find on alibaba. But hey at least they are trying to make up for it with warranty etc. most of the time. Here in Europe lot of times cheap stuff is repacked and woala its "made in germany" or "designed in germany"
Ashley Furniture does the same thing with its product reviews. They sell absolute junk furniture and when I went to complain, TWICE, they delete the reviews.
