In a special video message created for the recent Arista Records Reunion, Cleveland's, Eric Carmen talks about his iconic song All By Myself and eventually signing with Arista Records.
I'm still having a hard time dealing with Eric's passing. He was such inspiration to all and especially me. His music helped me through a lot of difficult times in my life. God Bless you Eric, you will always be with us. THEN, NOW and FOREVER ! 🙏🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️❤️
My sentiments exactly. I feel just the same. Still can’t grasp Eric Carmen isn’t here anymore. The news of his death really hurt. It was like having a safe place torn away. I too have turned to Eric Carmens music a lot during the past 50 years in general and for solice during hard times in particular. To much of this world is not aware how Big a loss his passing is.😢
I’m heartbroken 💔😢 He was the soundtrack of my life. More recently he was a presence on Twitter (before “X”). He responded to my comment once and as a 60 year old (at that time), I was thrilled. Gone way too soon. He will be missed. 🙏
@@annewandahl8420 Totally agree with your sentiments. It hurts to think Eric is no longer with us; but his music will live on and I , for one, will NEVER stop listening to it. His lyrics touched me and were so meaningful and powerful. As talented as he was, I truly think he was underappreciated, but I will love him forever.😭
Our piano teacher taught All By Myself to my 12 year old daughter. She can play the entire song including the solo. Thanks to the piano teacher and Eric Carmen! What a treasure.
GEN X, 1965! Dearest Eric, If you can see this, we, your fans want you to know how much we appreciated the musician, the songwriter, the entertainer, the husband and the Dad! Your music 🎶 changed so many of our lives.Thank you for giving us a piece of your talent and inspiration over 50 years. You will be missed. See you on the Heaven side composing praise music to our Lord & Savior, Jesus. Yes! I know you are Jewish.I also know you became a born again Christian. Condolences to your wife Amy , your 2 children, The Raspberries, friends and fans.
Eric Carmen is without a doubt one of the most prolific song writers and performers around. And in my opinion, the body of his work has been greatly under appreciated both as a member of the Raspberries, and as a solo performer. His true fans however, have always appreciated his work and perhaps one day, the rest of the world will finally catch on.
Hal Eisenberg Hal I agree Eric is a musical genius! His songwriting and even his voice is one of a kind....I have bought every one of his albums and now cds One of the best there is! The best to me!
Boats against the Current I think is his most moving piece. Most of his fans would go with "By myself" but I feel Boats against the Current reasonates on another level. It's a beautiful piece musically and lyrically. I've seen 2 other artists cover it, but no one sings it like Eric. It's my favorite piece of any artist. By myself was covered by Celine Dion also. "Boats" covered by Olivia Newton John. But I think Eric is Eric. I wish he toured.
❤❤The whole World love Eric Carmen's hits, compositions and musical arrangements, my heartfelt condolences to His family. Your eternal fan and follower from Mexico😢❤
Even though this song was extremely sad and described by life at the time I still loved it. I now have a loving wife and made many friends over the years. Loved this song, Go all the Way and the other hits.
Eric the Choir & the Raspberries, James Gang, Joe Walsh, Sonny Geraci... Cleveland Sounds from the 60's & 70's. Chesterland and Mentor Hullabaloo, Rocked out! RIP
Eric Carmen, I grew up listening to you on the radio. I'm 54 now, and still listen to you on the radio! Your music will last forever! That's quite an accomplishment !
Eric Carmen is the reason I taught myself to play the piano (I grew up playing guitar). I've been a professional musician for 45 years, toured, the whole ball of wax but this man (except for The Beatles) inspired me more than any other musician in the business. The first song I learned to play on the piano was All By Myself and no I do not do it justice but the crowds always loved it right up until I retired in 08. I have never, and still don't understand why this man has never really received the credit he deserves for his body of work. Besides his wonderful voice he is a first class musician and I will listen to and adore his music until the day they bury me. Thank you Eric Carmen for all the wonderful times and especially for the eternal songs you've given us, you have played a huge role in my musical life and I am grateful for it.
SO SO GLAD IT PREVAILED BECAUSE WE DROVE AROUND AND SUNG OUT LUNGS OUT TO IT, AND AT 70 ILL DO IT EVERY DANG TIME. LOVE IT. I HAD LOST MY DAD AT 16 AND MY MOM GOT SICK. I WAS RAISING MY BROTHER AND MY SISTER, SOME TIMES I CRIED.
Eric is a genius. He crafted that Rachmaninov melody into the bridge, and just made a beautiful rendition of it. He had to pay the Rachmaninov family royalties for doing it.
@@resera5 you mean the descendants. Ancestors are the family who comes before you, like your parents and grandparents...descendants are born after you, like your children, grandchildren, etc.
Eric Carmen's hits are timeless. I love his vocal quality and style. She Did It was amazing. As fresh today as it was in 1977, and although it was huge, I don't think it got the recognition it deserved. All good wishes, to Mr Carmen. I hope we get to hear more from him in the coming years.
I bought Eic's album when I was 13 , Raspberries, Starting Over," My parents took an agreement with Columbia records to purchase a certain number of albums that had all kinds of music and each of (7 of us) were allowed to choose the album for the month. That was my choice and I have been in love with Eric Carmen's music ever since. "All By Myself," and "Rose-Colored Glasses." were also in the top five list in my book. Eric cannot put a foot wrong. You're the best!!
This song and the “Never Gonna Fall in Love Again” have always been my favorites, actually most favorites. Almost as if the songs defined my youth up to now. Rach created the music, but it’s Eric who made it the poetic masterpiece. Ones that followed me all my life.
I love Eric Carmen's music. He is a great talent. His songs are beautifully written. I listen to his CDS whenever I drive and they take me back to my teenage years that I wish that I could go back to. Thank you Eric for your wonderful music.
“Clive got on a plane and flew to Cleveland .... Cleveland!” I’ve watched this footage several times and that comment from Eric makes me grin every time! Back then, Cleveland was indeed a dirty rust belt city and not exactly on the list of top travel destinations in the US. 😉 It’s really transformed into a nice city especially with the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, in which all of the Raspberries deserve to be inducted!!!!
Eric Carmen, is such a great vocalist, I really wished I could of met him. But I was still a kid that I started hearing his music playing in radio or one of my family members would listen to his music. I really love Eric and I love his music. And I loved your song go all the way, and I miss those days when music was more meaningful
Thank You Brother Eric for all you've accomplished in the Music World and for giving us Contry Folks Many Memorable Songs we sang while throwing Hay Bales for our Grandpa in North Eastern Kansas! Without your music, we wouldn't have fond memories to laugh about when we get together! God Bless You Brother!🙏
Eric, I love all your music and the piano concertos. I have loved all your songs for a long, long time, thank you so much for making such beautiful music and singing with such a beautiful voice. I love you. So take care of yourself. From your biggest fan in Akron, Ohio Carol Beatty. 😊😊
I was in college and got a copy of the first LP from the Arista rep, asking me to play it. It was just before Christmas, and I was sitting in at a small community station. I played it, hung onto it, and still have it. From "All By Myself" and "Never Gonna Fall in Love Again", through "She Did It" and "Hey Deanie", to "Hungry Eyes" and "Make Me Lose Control". Cleveland's finest was one of the best. Credit Clive's ear for making him a solo star.
Rest in peace, Eric.😢 You truly were a wonderful man. Your songs are loved by me, my mother, and my daughter. Wonderful memories go along with every song. Eric, you will be missed. ❤
I grew up listening to the Raspberries and was happy when one day I heard All By Myself on the radio and said YES ERIC IS BACK ALWAYS WANTED TO SEE THEM IN CONCERT AND IT NEVER HAPPENED
I have been a big admirer of Eric Carmen's music in both the Raspberries and his solo work since the 70's. I found this very interesting and love hearing the story of All by Myself. I would imagine he has a pile of stories about his career. He has been a big influence on my song writing as well and I would like to thank him for that.
"All By Myself" is one of my FAVORITE songs by "Eric Carmen. It came out in 1975 and it STILL SOUNDS GREAT TODAY!! Eric Carmen is a VERY gifted...smart talented musician and seems like a laid-back...easy-going kind of guy. I DO like the song..."Go All The Way" that was sung by "The Raspberries." Plus I did NOT know that he was a part of that group. He really put A LOT of hard work and effort into his songs. This was an AWESOME video about the story of "All By Myself!!"
I've been an incredible fan since I first bought the album in high school in the late 70s. It spoke profoundly to how it felt to be a gay man at that time in multiple dimensions. I cried and hoped to this song so many times for a day where I could be loved for being myself. Eric was brave to embrace his love for Rachmaninoff at a time when that wasn't considered cool. He showed us how romantic and passionate current music could be by channeling a master of romanticism and bringing that feeling and sound into the 1970s in a way that it spoke to that generation and beyond. His melodies and chord progressions were as deeply moving as the classical master while adding a layer of poetic lyrics that brought the meaning of the music sharply into focus within our hearts. Much of the world including myself fell in love with his alter ego Sergei after he introduced us to that sublime music. It's as if he and Rachmaninoff are one in the same - the passion and pain and angelic beauty are pervasive in both their compositions. And in two of their pieces, they joined hearts. Thank you Eric and Sergei. Your music deeply touched my life. I can also say happily in 2021 that after a long long journey into self love that I'm no longer all by myself. 💞
One of my all time favorites. He's done it all, in a group, as a solo artist, incredible voice that brings back years of memories having listened to it for decades. He was on the Dirty Dancing Soundtrack, all sorts hits, one after another. His music is just something I'm glad we had and didn't have to do without. Thank GOD for Eric!
I am so happy for Eric, he has truly added so much to the music industry especially during the "Arena Rock" and "Glam Rock" era.....his musical skill, composition and voice will always be with me for the rest of my life and I will look back on things with a smile and a feeling of comfort
As a genius of the music arts,I’ve truly believe you’re one of the most amazing singers through out the many years, Hall of Fame Great✅🎸🎤 You’re one of the reasons the seventies had markers in my history for sure❣️My Jr.High school dance when “Go all the way” was playing, and it was great❣️ and many more songs you dazzled the eighties with “ Hungry eyes” I was dating but then started hanging out with two guys, and they were funny, and almost married one of them. Your music helped me sort things out from time to time.Great writing songs so well that other singers were singing your songs a lot❣️Thanks for the memory makers 💖👍✅🥰
That song meant so much to me when I was very young and then I lived my full life. Now in the late autumn of my life the song mean so much again. Life is so cruel it shows you all the wonderful glorious days fullness and enrichment filled with successes and accomplishments. In the end you are reminded of what you no longer can do of who you were and were able to accomplish knowing you'll never reach those Pinnacles you enjoyed in the past in the way that you did. That's why I sort of feel sorry for him because he can't perform this song the way he used to and reach those high notes or play the piano nimbly as he once did. We watch the body age, the beauty fade, the hearing lessen and the eyesight fatigue and some of us get abandoned and are truly "all by myself".
It’s a MASTERPIECE among MASTERPIECES! Thanks brother! You’re at the TOP of the heap in a very exclusive neighborhood. Go All The Way is PRICELESS. It’s more valuable than the Mona Lisa-to me! By far! Never Gonna! Amazing. Classic! Wow! And dude how cool you are! The real deal dude!
All the best, Eric! You remain a musical genius in my book, and all your records still are a joy to savour! To this day I love playing my electric bass along to your records! Thank you Eric!
Wow, im just getting into this 🎵 song in 2021. Incredible writing and voice. I thought for years it was a Celine song. Eric yours is so much better, thanks for your creativity to your craft.
Thanks for making some of the best music of my life, Eric. You're a very large part of why my son is envious of when I grew up. I give him songs to listen to and I find out when I ride shotgun for him, while he's on his provisional driver's license, that you're a large part of his play lists. You're nothing short of a legend to both of us. God bless!
Greatest singer, perhaps, but songwriter? How about Rachmaninoff? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mv-ZelLO9rM.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RxEQIyKRKlc.html I came here expecting to hear some credit given to the man who directly inspired the music. It's disappointing not to hear his name mentioned once.
This song by Eric Carmen is so great, it is a massive song that everybody can relate to. When Celine Dion cover this song it became a much much massive hits and I think both Artist makes the song a legendary song. I love both artist and i do respect each artistry that they put into this masterpiece.❤️❤️❤️
Eric Carmen has an amazing talent both as a pianist AND as a singer. I remember playing "All by Myself" constantly when the record came out way back when, and I think I got on the nerves of a couple of my elderly neighbours. It has be said that quite a few other artists have recorded this song: my opinion is that Celine Dion does a wonderful job with it.
The whole 7 minute "All By Myself" is so beautiful and poignant including the piano solo, I wish radio had played the full 7 minute version in the 70s. They probably just played the 4 minute version, which is still amazing, but I guess they felt like listeners didn't have the attention span, or they wanted to fit in more commercials.
If we wanted to keep playing music, we had to run "single versions" of tunes and fit commercials. No choice. If Bud Lite paid for the airtime of 10 spots/hr, we either made sure they got 10 spots, or the station lost the revenue from A.B. and we'd lose our job.
@CSmith-gb1sl - Right? Those of us that bailed the top 40 markets were SO glad to be able to finally go relieve ourselves, and get a drink without counting down in our heads, lol. Plus, the vibe was a much more laid-back fit.
Gees, I always had the biggest crush on Eric Carmen especially when he was in the Raspberries..he is still a very good looking man. Loved all of his music. He's an Ohio (Cleveland) man. I live in Columbus. Just a little bit younger then him. Wished I could have seen him at some point and time. When the Raspberry broke up I was graduating from high school. Maybe I should have gone to Cleveland State instead of Ohio State. ..lol
Chancy Cat Hi Kathy C! Gosh Yeah Eric is a cutie pie isn't he? and you're right such a good singer! So yeah I know what you mean! I also have a physical therapist whose name is Eric..and gosh he's hot to!
Eric was given a gift from God! He shared his talents. Thank you for sharing! Moments in time which live on and on! Thank you for sharing. I took a date to see the Raspberries in Augusta, GA. in the early 70's. She was a great looking gal. Asked her out, took her to dinner at a place called T's and then to the concert at the Bell Auditorium. When we got there she took off with some girls friends running around acting silly before the show started. When caught up with her and told her we were leaving before the show. I returned her to her Father. I told him, Sir, your daughter is too immature to take out. She was shocked, He was impressed with me and thankful I didn't leave her. Never had the opportunity to see them again.
I just found out that Eric Passed away last month. So sad. RIP Eric. You were a wonderful man, a romantic with a wonderful soul. You loved Rachmaninov and based two songs on his music.
