There seems to be some confusion about this: Eric Singer (AKA The Catman) replaced Eric Carr (The Fox) as the KISS drummer in 1991, and is still the drummer for KISS today in 2020. These are two completely different Eric's.

Eric Carr was an amazing drummer and pushed kiss to be at there best! I like Eric Singer a lot but Eric Carr is my all time favorite. I would have loved to hear him play on the revenge album! Eric Singer did a great job But I would have loved to hear how Carr would have played it. Both Eric’s blow Peter off the stage. They have a passion that Peter could never touch. Just like Bruce K. Was better than Ace. Attitude and pride make all the difference. Ace had neither of them.
he said it 10 times before the intro alone, would not recommend playing this game. we're at 25 now and it's 3:20 in now it's at 30 at 8 minutes in ok i finished the video and I can conclude that he said it 34 times total
My first concert was the KISS Hot In The Shade tour. Slaughter and Winger opened for them. . Eric Carr, when it was his solo time, did a 25 minute solo. I repeat....A FREAKING TWENTY-FIVE MINUTE SOLO. . He is and will always be the Greatest Drummer to me all time. . R.I.P. Foxx Carr
Eric Carr was the reason I picked up drums to begin with. Every time some one has asked me who do I think is the best drummer is, I say Eric Carr. Eric was so consistent and not only technically amazing, but also able to make a simple beat into a banger live with these great fills that just FIT and made the song groovy and even sound better, War Machine live in 1983 is a perfect example. Fun Fact: Before picking the name Eric Carr and the Fox character, he was originally going to go with the name Rusty Blade and have a hawk character. He wasn't happy with the look of it and changed it I've been a Kiss fan since I was a kid and Eric Carr was my favorite member. That solo you watched is what made me want to learn how to play. I use to watch it on video constantly.
At no point were they ever going to go with the name "Rusty Blades." He suggested it, and the others immediately rejected it. The Hawk idea was dumped not just because he didn't like it. Paul Stanley said it was ridiculous and walked out of the room when he saw it. The band's original manager, Bill Aucoin, put out a CD called "13 Classic KISS Stories" in 1998, on the same label that released Mark St. John's "Mark St. John Project" and "Magic Bullet Theory" CDs. I suggest finding a copy of it. Aucoin told the Hawk story and, obviously, twelve others. He was there. He'd know better than you or I.
I'm so glad you like Eric Carr of Kiss. I used to be a huge Kiss fan and having saw them on every Tour they did with Eric Carr I can tell you his drum solo was one of the main highlights of the show every tour. Even our local paper commented on his solo when they did a review for the Asylum Tour in 85' in which Eric incorporated electronic pads programmed to sound like a Bass Synth and played chords on the electronic drums over a rock pattern on the kicks and snare drums. The crowd loved it and went nuts. The older I've gotten I realized how special Eric was as a drummer. He was particularly good at creating a solo that was enjoyable for musicians as well as the crowds he was playing in front of, and if you're a musician you likely know that is no small achievement. It's one of the harder things to do as a player, to structure the solo in such a way that the crowd of non-musicians can follow it, but also show off some of your best skills. Eric was really great at this in my opinion. And lastly he was definitely a rock star. May not sound important to some, but if you're going to be in Kiss it's vital. I can remember seeing him in the arena every tour with Kiss and thinking to myself "this guy is a rock star", and I mean that in the best sense of things. He was such an important part of Kiss. When Kiss was switching lead guitarists like chewing gum in the early to mid 80's I remember my friends and I always saying "at least Eric Carr isn't going anywhere". Eric Singer, who has been in and out of Kiss since 92' (mostly in for the record), is a fine drummer and musician, and I have no problem with him wearing Peter's makeup, it's Singer's job. It's how he makes his living. But Eric Singer isn't Peter Criss and he isn't Eric Carr. Eric Carr and Peter Criss are the only drummers in Kiss that matter in my view. If anyone hasn't already you should check out Eric Carr's solo from the Crazy Nights tour on RU-vid. You'll get to see the way he utilized the electronic pads with the acoustic drums in my aforementioned comments. It's really cool how he did it. Enjoy.
No, he did NOT shorten his last name. There was a guitar luthier named Steve Carr who made custom models for the KISS guys. Check out the clip of "She's So European." Paul and Ace's guitars were built by him. When it came time to change to new guy's name (as they had all changed their names; they also originally knocked three years off of Eric's age), they wanted to use Steve Carr's name, but he wasn't keen on the idea of the problems that could create for him, so they kept the "Carr," and it was Mr. Caravello who actually came up with the "Eric." What his name originally was had nothing to do with what it became.
My first real kit was a 70s Ludwig with five rack toms (all huge), 18” and 20” floor toms, and a huge 32” bass. No typo. I don’t know where the thing came from or who ordered it, but I saw it at a yard sale for a few hundred bucks and I had to have it. It was a huge pain, you couldn’t take it anywhere, and even with my 80s Volvo station wagon (oh yeah), it took up the whole thing and the rest of the band had nowhere to sit. Now I have a 3pc bop kit of 60s Slingerlands. It sounds better and it’s much easier to live with. But part of me still misses the monster...
From Paul Stanley’s Autobiography, Paul Stanley, ace AND Eric Carr all had first names of paul, that’s why they called Ace ace, and Paul Caravello got the name Eric Carr.

When I marched 30+ years ago, my band director had the brilliant idea to march roto toms instead of a standard trio. It was so frickin' heavy. It sucked!!

Correction EMC, according to Paul Stanley's Autobiography "Face The Music", at the time he joined the band, there were already two Paul's in the band, Paul Stanley and Paul Frehley, the guitarists, and they did not want to have a third Paul in the band so he changed it. FUN FACT: Before KISS, Paul Caravello was a stove repairman!!! Have a Good Morning!!!!

Eric Carr was an awesome drummer. I own one of his personal tour itineraries, one of my favourite KISS possessions. I'm sure you're an awesome drummer too of course :-)
