A British bloke, maturing in the US, adopting and redefining Southern Blues, and appreciated in Asia (as well as around the world), speaks of the wonders of how music can bring the world together.
This is, in my opinion, one of Eric Clapton best concerts. This is in part because he understood that audience in Japan understood his music and he could play music that would be appreciated. Many people don’t understand the importance of the audience. These were the best of the best of blues music led by a man who is haunted by the loss of his son, sitting down and comfortable with how much the audience appreciated the music. This was a singular moment in the history of blues. This was not blues of 100 years ago. It is blues regardless of the color of your skin. It took from the pathos of the the 1900’s and introduced it to the 2000’s, in Japan, the country that is more accustomed to suffering than any other country.
Nah, the 80's tours from the albums August & Behind the Sun and before are MUCH better. This is during the period before he really started doing the blues thing and he was really at the peak of his playing abilities.
I saw this video while having dinner at a great but small restaurant Chez Tof, in Guadeloupe on December 29. 2022 and I have not been able to stop watching this video since that evening. I have always been a fan of Eric Clapton, but I believe this is his best work. Also, I love the diversity of the band members. BB King and Clapton fans need to check out "Riding with the King." It is a wonderful collaboration between two gifted and genuine musicians. BTW the owner, Tof, is wonderful and so is the food (I was not paid to write that review! LOL).
**. ERIC CLAPTON... YOU DID CHANGE THE WORLD... YOU BROUGHT,, MORE,, SUNLIGHT TO THE UNIVERSE... THANK YOU 😊❤️😊❤️😘❤️😘❤️😘😘❤️.... ((I loved you in the sixties,,, and you still got it...)). **
This was worth the price of the concert ticket, hotel and round-trip airfare to Tokyo from anywhere in North America! I cannot imagine a more entertaining evening.
People say Japanese audiences look bored. It's the opposite, it feels really intense. Because people there appreciate performances, and actually pay attention and are respectful. Would imagine its a treat for performers, and makes you want to bring your A game.
Wonderful concert, must be some of the very best backing musicians in the business with Eric. Fabulous sounds and and amazing memories of past music coming through so very loud and clear, thanks Eric and the guys.
See if you can spot this one? What will you do when you get lonely No one waiting by your side? You've been running, hiding much too long You know it's just your foolish pride Layla, got me on my knees Layla, begging, darling, please Layla Darling, won't you ease my worried mind? Tried to give you consolation Your old man had let you down Like a fool, I fell in love with you You turned my whole world upside down Layla, got me on my knees Layla, I'm begging, darling, please Layla Darling, won't you ease my worried mind? Make the best of the situation Before I finally go insane Please don't say we'll never find a way Tell me all my love's in vain Layla, got me on my knees Layla, I'm begging, darling, please Layla Darling, won't you ease my worried mind? (Yeah, yeah) Layla, got me on my knees Layla, begging, darling, please Layla Darling, won't you ease my worried mind? (Yeah, yeah) Layla, got me on my knees Layla, begging, darling, please Layla Darling, won't you ease my worried mind? Layla, got me on my knees Layla, begging, darling, please Layla Darling, won't you ease my worried mind?
What a great combo! I love the bassist. He's amazing. What a great voice. Not to take away from the other band members, of course - Eric Clapton is phenomenal. The music only gets better.
