This is not an Eric Clapton cover. The song was written in 1923 and was created and made famous in 1929 by « Empress of the Blues » Bessie Smith. There are countless versions which are way, way better than Clapton’s (be it on Layla or Unplugged) eg Bessie Smith, Alberta Hunter, Scrapper Blackwell, Colette Magny, Rhiannon Giddens etc
