My mother named me Laila (Layla) after this song. You cannot understand the connection I have with this song. How many people have sung this to me in my 22 yrs of living or how it makes me feel as it was made for specifically for me. I know it isn’t but I love to think it’s about me.
What'll you do when you get lonely And nobody's waiting by your side? You've been running and hiding much too long. You know it's just your foolish pride. [Chorus:] Layla, you've got me on my knees. Layla, I'm begging, darling please. Layla, darling won't you ease my worried mind. I tried to give you consolation When your old man had let you down. Like a fool, I fell in love with you, Turned my whole world upside down. [Chorus] Let's make the best of the situation Before I finally go insane. Please don't say we'll never find a way And tell me all my love's in vain. [Chorus 2x]
Just my opinion, but I think what makes this song (specifically this version) so perfect are a few things: the timeless name/idea of “Layla” (could be anyone/anything); the swampy, rolling melody (akin to Fleetwood Mac before Buckingham/Nicks); the walking nature of the lyrics; a tune everyone can sing and hum; and a class act, relatable writer like Eric. It serves not only as a time capsule to millions, but a song that future generations will undoubtedly come to love too.
I would have freakout in the audience realising it was the acoustic version of layla, its like one of the best electric song becoming one of the best acoustic song
What will you do when you get lonely? No one waiting by your side You've been running, hiding much too long You know it's just your foolish pride Layla, you got me on my knees Layla, begging, darling, please Layla, darling, won't you ease my worried mind? I tried to give you consolation When your old man let you down Like a fool I fell in love with you You turned my whole world upside down Layla, you got me on my knees Layla, I'm begging, darling, please Layla, darling, won't you ease my worried mind? Make the best of the situation Before I finally go insane Please don't say we'll never find a way Or tell me all my love's in vain Layla, you got me on my knees Layla, I am begging, darling, please Layla, darling, won't you ease my worried mind?
I was just 8 years old when I loved this song and only heard it a handful of times. Then 29 years go by and not heard it once. Now found it by chance. Now I finally know the name of the song. It must be a super rare song that is never played on any radio station as I listen to the radio almost every day Its took me nearly 3 decades to find this song, I am now 37 years old
For those wondering, the musicians are lead vocalist-guitarist Eric Clapton, backing vocalists Katie Kissoon and Tessa Niles, guitarist Andy Fairweather-Low, bass guitarist-backing vocalist Nathan East, drummer Steve Ferrone, percussionist Ray Cooper, and keyboardist Chuck Leavell.
23 years, I have loved this song. I loved before I even learned English and my love was greater after learning English. Everything, including the back singers, perfection. 🧡
Everyone, if you really are that worried about this type of music dying because nobody "young" listens to it. Don't. I'm 16 and appreciate that type of music (stones, led Zeppelin, Hendrix etc). They are brilliant bands, with brilliant musicians. It won't die out, they've made too much of a mark on the world around us. Boom.
If you ever have to explain to someone what an arranger does or what an arrangement is, play them this song! This is the best arrangement of a kick-ass rock song to a ballad _ever_ !
This Unplugged version I love hearing over and over again. Any number of times, no issue. Simply grand. Thanks Mr.Clapton. Thanks Dana for uploading it.
My dad named my dog after this song. We had her for 13 years. She recently got put down and we played this song. She went through a lot with my family. It is very depressing but it feels good to listen to this song at the same time.
I think i depends on what mood your in. The fast version is very good if your very pumped and happy when this unplugged version is good if your calm and just want to listen to some good music! :)
Growing up in elementary, I always heard this song on the radio all the way up until now. Never knew it was Eric Clapton. I grew up in a religious household so secular music was limited. These are one of the songs that got me through rough times
I’m newly divorced. Layla was one of her favorites. After 15 years, still love her like hell. She really has got me on my knees. Miss her everyday. She can be a prick too, but I messed up badly. Not as bad as others, but bad enough. Now I would be happy just to talk about the weather with her. Would be heaven for me. I love you and still miss you...and I think I always will.
I met this charming boy one night. We went back to his apartment and he got his guitar. He was playing certain classics, then I asked him if he liked Clapton; that's when he begun strumming the intro of Layla. Now he's on my mind.
This song makes me think of my old Loves. Now im alone, Looking at 62. So many thoughts fill my mind with this Song. I am a drummer. Played this song!!!!
You are loved BOUNDLESSLY by consciousness/creation/the Source. Not to sound too hippy but I truly believe we are all woven in this mysterious force called reality. You are never truly. Lonely. Even if u tried to be. Love permeates, and you are part of this love. Peace to you.
I love how this song is groovin' so hard. It's such a tight rhythmic section which I love a lot combined with Claptons great voice and beautiful arrangement. Great!!!
Man, I remember when I first heard this song. I was 4 years old at the time, and taking piano lessons at my local music center. They had a TV playing music videos, and this one came up. Now, 14 years later, I find it. Thanks!

April 2019! My 16 year old grandson is learning to play this song! I'm a very proud Nana! This is better than the original version. Yes I remember when the original version came out, I was a lot younger then!
I love them equally. This riff is one of the most iconic pieces of music ever written in Rock history. It also lends itself perfectly to an acoustic performance. That's a testament to Eric's incredible song writing skills, no matter what he's like as a person.
The original is the best. But I love them all. I named my daughter Layla, after the original. The acoustic version came out when she was a couple months old. She passed away in 2011...
I lost my high school best friend to a car accident last year and her name was Layla. This song makes me think of her every time I hear it. Miss u friend. RIH.
Listening to all the instruments overlapping and blending together perfectly is like magic This song makes me wanna love someone named Layla!!! This song makes me wanna love someone named Layla!!!
YES! I found the version I grew up with! My parents would play his stuff all the time when I was a kid, so this has a huge nostalgia factor for me. Thanks for uploading this!
This was our song & no doubt for many others too, and now my darling has passed away. This Song brings me Joy & Sorrow at the same time. We saw Eric Clapton 9 times, amazing musician ❤️❤️❤️
Hello!! How are you doing today, please pardon me for intruding into your privacy but I just wanted to know if you’re a fan ? Have a great day. Stay Safe!
This is always my favourite version of this song, definitely great for driving down the highway relaxing back in your chair as you watch outside the window on the passenger side.
Yaramaz Kunduz If so, then ASK for numerous miracles and find out if miracles exist or not. And ASK Eric to rule the earth and wipe out crimes, wars, hunger, diseases and poverty. Will you provide the world with that thru Eric? Remember that you CLAIMED that Eric is GOD. If a GOD exist , then provide the REQUEST, if you CAN'T, then REPENT yourself for CLAIMING.
This song always takes me back to high school when we used to jam out to music from the 70s and 80s even though we were in high school in the late 90s early 00s. Internet wasn't that big back then so we spent most of our free time learning to play musical instruments and fixing up old cars.
I love this version of "Layla"! My best friend John AMORing recommended it to me! I never get tired of listening to it!!! Great!!! 😘❤💕🎵🎵🎵 Miss u, honey!!!
