According to Bobby Whitlock, Delaney Bramlett, who produced this album, also originally played bass on this song. Clapton didn't like the mix on this song, so he took the master tape to Criterion where Stephen Stills jumped in and re-did the bass lines.
AWESOME !! You are one with Joni’s song. Beautiful! And you play with loads of passion, sensitive to the feel of the song. You are exceptionally creative, talented, and with such flowing confidence. It’s a great experience listening to you! Thx for sharing ❤🎸🤩
I haven't checked these for accuracy but you can try here: www.carlradlebass.com/2019/12/let-it-rain.html. The guy who posted it is a professor of music theory and, by his own words, a huge Carl Radle fan, so it's probably going to be pretty close, if not spot on.
Which part did Stephen Stills add when he played bass with a pick, according to Bobby Whitlock? Bobby said it was done after Eric rushed the masters to Criterion because he was upset with the mix.
