Great songwriter, tasteful guitarist, understated singer, but above all things JJ was sane. He stayed free of the dark machinery of music business stardom and did his unique thing.
He is regarded by his peers as one of the greatest pickers ever. Neil Young mentioned him in the same breath with Hendrix. Knopfler copied him. smooth and subtle. Wrote some of Claptons greatest hits. I do Call Me the Breeze, Lynyrd Skynyrd version in kareoke.
@@mannfm11 Knopfler is a Scottish man avocated to american folk music, and always said that JJ Cale is an inspiration to him, they played several times together. "copy" is a strong word my friend, you are talking about people who wrote the rock history here.
He wasn't more well-known to this day than he is simply because he chose that life. He didn't care to be in the spotlight. If he could have chosen he'd be a guitar player in a band and not in the spotlight. The fact that he barely ever promoted any released albums or tours shows it's a testament to the music and he didn't care about being a famous rock 'n roll has been. He just wanted to play his music and survive off of that and there is absolutely nothing wrong with such a fantastic effortless attitude.
wow! i just wanna say thanks to all. I made this for a friend, 6 yrs ago , i did not anticipate so much appreciation ..pardon the pun haha . I may never post another video, but i def won't remove this one ! :)

De Belgique ;Merci Patsy beau travail!. Le blues (il n'y a rien de mieux )🎶 fera toujours battre nos 💕 avec ces merveilleux artistes. Bonne fête de fin d'année 🌸
Thank you for sharing this. What a great selection of songs. J.J. Cale is my favourite artist, without a doubt. I'm 77yo, and have been listening to his music for over 40 years, and will never tire of listening to him.
I was introduced to JJ Cales music in 1975 with his "Really" album. It is a shame that he never received the acclaim that he so richly deserved. Thank God that Eric Clapton finally discovered him and exposed him to the world. JJ's wife Christene Lakeland was probably the best thing that ever happened to him. She always lit up when she was in his presence. They truly loved each other. She still misses him to this day. Good people. My life is richer because of them and the "Tulsa Sound." Vaughn
JJ Cale was asked about this paradox and he said he was happy to have found the balance, and stay out of the spotlight while being able to play music his entire life
JJ Cale had such a unique sound. He was a guitar players guitar player. He took that driving shuffle to the stratosphere. I heard him in 1974 and was hooked for life. He was the first rocker to put Tulsa on the World Stage for that sound. That Tulsa Time. What a Master.

Like others commenting, at age 67, I grew up listening to J J Cale and Eric Clapton from the mid 1960s. Both were incredibly creative, and naturally good for each other. Clapton said J J Cale was like an older brother to him. Their bond was deeply rooted, both in music, and sincere friendship. This is a beautiful tribute to J J Cale. Many thanks from a North Texas cowboy.
Hello good morning how are you doing, i hope you had a great day. I'm Patti from Long Beach California, just looking for new friend and i saw your pic here Ok!
Got to see J.J. Cake close the show at Red Rocks Amp, Colo Sept 1978 with Jerry Jeff n Russell Smith n the AMAs! Still have program what an evening under the Stars! 🌌
I'll miss JJ Cale forever! He was like a thumbprint. One of a kind. I thank Eric and any others who helped bring more attention to his music. He was a free spirit!
Betty Davis you definitely need to make more videos you’re busy lady that was awesome !!! I only seen Eric Clapton wants it was nothing but the blues tour, so glad I chose that one ! Thanks for your effort we deserve more ha ha😂 Clapton has respect for everyone that deserves !
The greatest musician ever. Learned about him in the 70s and i've been a great fan of him since. He did not want to be a star, just af musician in a band playing music and have a great time. And make a living of it. Respect, he could have made it to the stars, but he prefer a simpel life doing what he love. And he lived his life like he wanted to. He loved to be unknown and be able to walk around like he pleace. Thanks for the music and the inspiration.
Plus he loved his wife and included her in everything...and remember when he had stage fright..Christine stood in front of him on stage and said.."just look at me babe"..so is also a great love story
Hello good morning Alan how are you doing, i hope you had a great day. I'm Patti from Long Beach California, just looking for new friend and i saw your pic here Ok!
JJ Cale: His haunting, laid back, intriguing riffs and rhythmic style flows like water through my soul. First saw him at Convocation Hall in Toronto. His influence still rests deep inside me. Gone but never forgotten….
this is an album I can leave on comfortably loud when I pull the Softail into a gas station or rest stop and nobody complains. they're instantly caught up in his riffs. they don't know who it is generally, the ones who do give a nod. not for my choice but in common appreciation of iconic talent he left with us.
Someday is the perfect song for Mark Knopfler to cover-his voice and guitar were made for that wonderful song.Easily my favorite cover on this great tribute to one of the greatest songwriters in modern music.
JJ doesnt get enough credit for creating the Dire Straits' sound, sure Mark is a class of his own but his licks really come from somewhere and that's JJ Cale
had the pleasure to have seen JJ Cale play in Dublin in around 1975. most laid back gig ever. no support act, no announcer, JJ just walked on, plugged in, sat on a stool and started played. Still remember it vividly to this day. Had never heard him before, but my love affair started then. This is a fitting tribute to the man and his music.
That is JJ Cale! ! He could get a club rocking with just himself and a guitar!I saw him at a literally underground club in Seattle,in the basement of one of the big buildings there. JJ Cale did a solo set, and it was SUCH a relief to hear JJ's songs, without a stack of Marshalls blaring behind it. JJ Cale was the best!!
I think this a tremendous compliment to a guy who never pursued them. His music is here forever for those of us who can sing every word of every song he ever recorded.
Props to Eric for his tribute album with his friends of JJ. Eric's a standup dude for sure He really cared about JJ and his contribution to the music world. R.I.P. JJ. Cappy
I was listing to Bruce Springsteen - when J.J. Cale - appeared, Hmm I'll give it a try, so smooth and soothing now I'm here with you guys hooked on his sound
Ms. Patsy, I'm knocking on 70 and was searching for some more J J Cale when I found your offering... outstanding tribute for such an under rated, and accomplished song writer and musician. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for the upload. I to will hold on to it. Thanks again... 😚
I just found this jewel! What a treasure! JJ Cale was stress resistant and his laid back style is infectious! These great musicians have captured the soul of JJ Cale and shared him with us....many thanks.
The disc named... "The Breeze: An Appreciation of JJ Cale"... is truly outstanding, with such an enormous collection of great, great musicians covering JJ Cale's songs... all pulled together by JJ's dear and longtime friend, Eric Clapton..! '
Saw him in concert 1975 in Munich, Germany, and it was great. He was awesome. Took a lot of stage fotos. Since this day I love his elegant, relaxed and timeless music.R.I.P. Mr. Cale
Heard Tom Petty and JJ Cale sing JJ's "I want to love you baby, etc" and then listened to JJ's other songs. Truly a master musician one that I'm so glad I found. It's so amazing how so many great musicians/songwriters we never hear about but only find by accident.
By "accident" I've got my first JJ Cale album some 40 years ago, back in country of Bosnia, and never let it go...as a broken refuge, I brought it with me in late nineties to Canada .....no money but "long play " record safely tucked in my bag....
A generation ago, in a time zone far, far away, another expat student played a JJ Cale record in her sunny room overlooking the cobblestone street. So now, I thank goodness for April who introduced me to JJ Cale.
Having Mark Knolfer play "some Day" was perfect. Mark is the only person that could show the emotion of this tune. I miss JJ, he was my "captain, my captain" of music. ;-)
This is such a great record. Eric Clapton organizes an homage to his favourite musician by bringing the best to cover JJ's material. Clapton, Willie Nelson, Tom Petty, Mark Knopfler.....a whole host of fabulous musicians to play keys, bass, percussion, drums, backup vocals and tops it all off with my two favourite living electric guitar players, Derek Trucks and John Mayer. Love it!!

I remember J J saying he could not believe when he turned 65... But we have for the rest of time J J... and we appreciate the artists that continue his legend. Thank you. ❤❤❤
Just found this. I had JJ Cale's NATURALLY, one of the first LP's i bought getting home from Nam and wore it out. This fine collection brings tears of remembrance of being home again.
I always like Eric's music. Back in the early 80's, I was in Air Force stationed in UK & met a British neighbor in RAF who was a great guitar player. We talked of musical interests & talents, & when he knew I was harmonica player, he asked if we could jam together. He was the one who turned me on to JJ Cale. I was so glad to see that Eric & JJ did an album b4 JJ left us.
I like to call Eric Clapton the Steven Spielberg of rock n roll he is so creative and innovative a real master of his craft this tribute to JJ Cale is proof of that
i was there at '04 crossroads when they finally took the stage together...eric standing back as second guitar..christine off to the side...what a moment..everyone grinning except J.J. until the end ..then a big smile from him too...lifetime moment for me..
Thank you Mr Clapton, for all you music, but I thought the concert where you played with JJ was just brillant. But JJ Cale was in a league of his own. He will be greatly missed.
I was playing in a funky little club in Nashville way back in 1979. I had a little 3 piece rock & blues band and I had my eyes closed, playing away and when I opened them, Leon Russell was nose to nose with me and says, "Whar's Nix?" meaning Don Nix. He and J.J. Cale had come to hear us. I only had a drummer and a bass player with me or I would've asked them up. Nix had just gone back to Memphis after staying with me for a couple weeks but it's a great memory in my books!!! They stayed for a set and we had conversation on break but what a night it could have been indeed!!!
I think JJ cale was more undiscovered than underrated.Eric Clapton,Skynrd and others realized his importance as as artist, and embraced him,as well they should have. The rest is history.R.I.P. John.
Thanks Patsy Davis and Eric Clapton for this great homage to a great musician. Lots of favorite guitarists ,singers , musicians in there màkes for a truly moving collection of J J 's compositions
Bumped into this guy some forty years ago and he's wowed me since, so melodic and yet so "out there" and very inventive. A true artist and foremost musician. I salute you J.J.CALE. r.i.p
Patsy Davis - Thank You for providing memories of all these GREATS that will last a life time...and hopefully inspire those who have not yet had the pleasure of listening to these music masters who, in turn, have been inspired by the late, GREAT...J.J. Cale...Thanks!
Theres a lot of things one could say about JJ's career and his songwriting and guitar playing, for one I'm thankful he gave us so many beautiful songs and that in a special way he got away with being a not so well known musician and probably by his own choice to live a somewhat normal life unlike other artists that sold their souls for rock and roll he didn't so he could have more control of his life and enjoy it with his loved ones, we are thankful to Eric Clapton for appreciate JJ's work and share these recordings with us that we love and enjoy for many years to come.
Like many of us I have loved JJ for years, and am so old I've followed Eric Clapton since the 60s. I am so thankful that you help put this music on top where it belongs. A star up above guides you as far as I'm concerned.
Welcome Patsy! Sounds like u go a lotta catching up and enjoying to do! Can't belive Eric didn't get u there sooner. I am pretty old too, and even busy on a couple deathbeds. Music of this caliber got me thru the worst times and the best times, (along w/ prayers galore) This video is awesomely beautiful, spanning different time frames, gorgeous. Keep this up and thx much, blessings .
I’ve been a painter and practicing artist for 42 years and there’s a synchronicity in JJ’s work .. it’s what makes true art in a masterpiece... he will live on in our hearts and minds ... god bless him ...
J.J had a unique rhythm and beat to his songs and his lyrics were out of the world. Clapton vibed well with him in their personal and musical styles. Love them
First time I heard of JJ Cale was when I saw song-writing credits on the Skynyrd album Second Helping for the song Call Me The Breeze and I was like 'damn this is a great song'. Then a friend pointed out that After Midnight was also written by him (I was 5 when he wrote it so I guess I can be excused for not knowing it until I heard EC's version when I was a teenager). Those two songs started me on my journey as a life long JJ fan. I had just started trying to play guitar about that time and his music (and others of course) really inspired me to learn and keep at it. I never became a great player or tried to earn a living at it but it's sure as hell fun to jam along with all the great music that the folks in this video have made. EC was right, what a great american treasure! Thank you and RIP Mr. Cale. (TP too).
Ich hab so die Nase voll von "....best ever", .."the geratest of all time .." and so on...
Hello good morning how are you doing, i hope you had a great day. I'm Patti from Long Beach California, just looking for new friend and i saw your pic here Ok!
I heard this for the first time just recently,,,,and wish I could give a like for each time I listen 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍❤❤❤❤❤❤❤, so yeah a really great mix of some of the best!
Thanks Patsy!! I have been a JJ Cale fan forever, he was the best! I am older than dirt and his music is still on everything that I own from vinyl, 8-track, cassette, and CD. He may be gone but his music will live on forever.
Magnifique, inoubliables avec tous ses artistes splendide, merci RU-vid, ne jamais se passer d'un grand musicien, merci à toi jj cale, je ne t'oublierai jamais. Bruno
