Eric Dezenhall, Dezenhall Resources chairman, joins 'Squawk Box' to discuss the ongoing protests at Columbia University over the Israel-Hamas war, how the university can best respond to the protests, and more.
@@cozyslorColumbia like most private universities receives 10s of millions in federal funding. Therefore they should have much higher tolerance for peaceful protest than if they were actually privately financed.
The billionaire donors had no problem with anti-huwhyte CRT in upper crust universities until it metastasized into anti-🇮🇱, and then they pulled their $.
@@JamesB727 How would you call the Qatar's Billionaires, who poison the western academy? Who finance Hamas leader and deny both Christians and Muslims humanitarian aids and human rights? How is freedom of expression being practiced, if those Jewish students' lives are being threatened, and they can't express solidarity with Israel without being assaulted?!
So yeah, everyone has a 1st amendment right to freedom of speech and freedom to gather and protest.......as long as it is acceptable speech and protest by those holding the purse strings, right? Maybe we are protesting the wrong people, maybe we should turn our attentions to those who attempt to control our lives with their money. If they were protesting on the side of Israel I don't think there would be any arrests would there?
Most universities are smart enough to understand that calling for human rights of one group of people is not the same as threatening another. The only Jewish students facing violence are the Jewish students who were arrested for protesting in support of Palestine.
BS! Real jews are against Zionism . Israel is committing terrorism genocide and occupation on the name of Jews . Supporting Zionism is antisemitism . Free Palestine 🇵🇸✊
A Jewish professor wasn't able to walk on campus. And Jewish students have every right to counter protest under the 1st amendment. The Free Palestine movement has gotten to a place where Jewish people aren't safe unless they are self hating.
We sit and watch documentaries about the brave students who protested against the illegal war in Vietnam in the 60s and call them heroes. And the brave students protesting against genocide in 2024 are being arrested 😪 We the people need to stand up for what’s right, these students are heroes!
This is the peaceful adult conversation that needs to be had with the students (and their benefactors in some instances) - there is a choice to not enroll in such colleges and a choice for the colleges to clean their investments of controversial financial associations. It's also an opportunity for schools to attract students who agree with their financial values. I think a lot of student transfers and changes in collegiate funding/investments should happen because of this.
The naive western puppets have done all the media conditioning and propaganda spreading for Hamas it’s a shame they’re so blind and easy to be misled, it’s to their own detriment
If youre tired of missing out on moonshots, its time to get serious about presales. Weewu is shaping up to be a game-changer in the space. Imagine the gains from getting in before the masses.
I am confused here is he suggesting that the University donor system was invented yesterday. My understanding is that donors have always funded the Ivy League. They seem to be suggesting the end of academic freedom, and advocating for the management of the University by rich donors. This strikes me as short sighted and more damaging to thought and scholarship at Elite/Ivy League Universities than any student protests. This seems like a nail in the coffin to the donor based model of private elite universities, and would likely see a shift in education quality from private to public state funded institutions that can conger up state funds to replace and compete with donor funding with strings attached.
the alt-right, hell, the entire right, IS the problem. these are just kids wanting Israel to stop murdering children.. but the right is passing cruel legislation attacking women, gays, blacks, immigrants, children, the poor and the homeless. and if they cant get elected honestly, they cheat, and if they still cant get their way from cheating, they use violence.
Are these kids doing anything like Jan 6? No, these kids are protesting genocide. You're delusional to think they're hurting anyone. Not old enough to remember vietnam are you?
@@TheGrumplythe riots from BLM were all leftists. The left has always been crazy and violent, they are just even more crazy and violent. Remember the Bernie campaign worker who shot Scalise?
There will be think pieces that likely break down how or why Colombia has been more permissive with its students than other universities. It seems obvious that on average, wealthier families are sending their kids to Columbia. Columbia’s president has no idea of who is in that crowd or who their parents are and that is easily or clearly, the reason Columbia is being more mindfulof its response. I actually love that for once privilege is being used for the greater good and it’s being used in the service of human rights versus the violation of it.
As of today, at least 34,183 Palestinians have been killed and 77,143 injured since Oct. 7. Almost half are women and children. People are starving. What are you talking about "sympathetic openly to terrorist organizations." What type of take is that?
The Palestinians have brought it on themselves and continue to do so. Israel is going nowhere. And if Israel has any sense. Palestine and Hamas will soon be no more.
The leadership and President at the college have demonstrated poor leadership The police should never have been called in; The militarization of campuses is the downfall of academia.
Seeing a lot of potential in Weewus technology and vision. This isnt just another token, its the future of DeFi. Getting in at presale could set you up for life.
I spent more than 12 hours reporting from the Gaza Solidarity Occupation at USC today. I didn’t see any antisemitism. What I did see was militarized police arrest pro-Palestinian students who were peacefully protesting. The convo about safety on campus is backwards. Jeremy Lindenfeld (Jew Journalist)
Parents protest your kids were cheated out of a better education lol get your money back bring your kids home insist they get jobs. They will have different outlook
All the others who want an education suffer. We had race riots in my high school in the 60’s,( outsi de agitators) closed the school, went on split session, hated my senior year,
The problem is that you journalist are given a wrong diagnosis to the core problem ! What is the protest about ? Is it for a good cause ? Is it within the legal frame work of student ? Have there been any genuine violations or some kind of escalation? !!
Their first reflex is to freeze people out of jobs and to crush First Amendment-protected speech and expression. Concerning law firms, NYCLU is already representing Jewish Voice for Peace against Columbia on First Amendment grounds. Dig up the complaint.
Oh, do let me know which existing schools conservative academics who refuse to use pronouns or submit "diversity statements" might be hired at. The blacklisting exists already, but just runs one way.
A lot of chatter about Weewu lately and for good reason. With institutional money already flowing in, this presale could be the investment of the decade.
@@rubytuesday4564 May God liberate all the Palestinians and Palestine from the vicious criminal Israeli occupation since 1948. God is just, but puts us all at the test…. Where must you stand…. Think well and test your conscious. And excuse my spelling 😊
I would like to call the stupidity of people supporting Islamic people over a much more liberal and democratic state but they got into university while I didn't, can't even get a job right now that would support my family so...not in a position I guess. Praying for Israel.
Just checked out Weewus latest update. The momentum is building, and the presale is your best shot at getting in before this rocket takes off. Dont kick yourself later.
The question that needs to be asked of Administrators is "Why are you running interference for the Genocide"? The other question is "Why do you never listen to Students?" This happened around the Struggle against Apartheid in S. Africa, and the Administrators adopted the same "collaborationist actions". These people need to be replaced by people who understand the mission of Academia. They're making a mockery of it.
Are these guys a little dumb? These students are against genocide. That is a good value and universities can be proud of that. Please do you understand my English. Im from the Netherlands msybe i have a strange accent but at least i understand this situation.
Let's talk about young people protesting at a university rather than talk about billionaires who are destroying the world so that they can increase their profits a small amount We have our knee pads on here at CNBC and we like to service billionaires like glory hall champions working at a truckstop
This is shocking. Never has a political protest occurred on the hallowed grounds of an American institution of higher education. Send in the national guard, this is quite the emergency
I am always fulfilled and hopeful seeing how young people took to the streets for Vietnam back then. This is no different. I can’t believe they get arrested for standing up for what is RIGHT.
Yes, time for McCarthyism. My company is very, very careful about hiring any young person. We look at your entire record and past history. And then dig deeper.
The Palestinian cause has never been taken seriously by the American public until this recent conflict. A lot of Israeli supports are having a hard time coming to grips with that fact
@@EddieHenderson92I recognize that Israel is occupying Palestine and that Palestinians have been given no incentive by their occupiers to act peacefully
Lmao @ blaming Arab financiers for rigorous intellectual thought. My bf is Jewish and a civil rights attorney and went to Israel and said he saw a CLEAR apartheid state with his own eyes. What “Arab funder” did that?
Can it be remembered for a moment the people dying in Gaza .. ? .. is this ok? Is Israeli death ok ! Is one ok and not the other .. .. you people, high and dry, are really talking rubbish (my opinion)
This is the amount of American tax dollars paid with sweat and tears and given to other countries for free. "$61bn for Ukraine $26bn for Israel; $8bn for in the Indo-Pacific region". DON'T YOU KNOW THAT BY SUPPORTING UKRAINE AND ISRAEL THEN THE TAXES THAT YOU PAY WITH SO MUCH DIFFICULTLY WILL JUST LOST?kl
In the crypto world, timing is everything. Thats why Im all in on Weewus presale. Their vision for DeFi could redefine the market. Be early, be wealthy.
Well, that's an A for every student...... agitating for the downfall of Israel, the US and the West is the new work study....money straight from China and Iran into the professor and student pocket.🎉
