well Jimi actually said that his two fav guitarists were Billy Gibbons and Terry Kath of CTA................... Trower is not ten times better but I do love his music. I saw him with Procul Harem on the Broken Barricades tour, mainly dominated by Gary Brooker on piano and vocals. I have seen Eric too many times to count, he is a beast for sure
He has much more control of his single line phrasing than Jimi had--but Jimi's motivic/ compositional arc is on another level---but thats because he created that language...But Eric is the greatest "Stewart" of it, the carrier of the flame.
Mr. Gales is a consummate master of Stratocaster-styled phrasing, and Taylor has clearly studied the phrasing of the British Blues masters (Clapton, Green, and M. Taylor) very thoroughly. They are both virtuosos.
I can say that I have seen Shaw Taylor and Gales in Barcelona (in two different shows). Both are amazing. There were a blast. But Gales... I saw him in Madrid and other time in Barcelona, and... he is Fucking great.
Damn!! This is my first time ever seeing JST and I am impressed. Eric is a freaking maniac on guitar. I LOVE this dude. It blows my mind that he isn't more famous than he is. Fantastic stuff!
Same here... I came here becaue of Eric Gale, and was surprised by JST... she really has the blues feel in her, she just oozes it in her play! and she has the voice that binds it all too. Good god!
@@p6x2 They are both unreal. I think it's a blues thing. When they don't even look at thier guitar while playing lead. They are somewere in the cosmos. It's a beautiful thing to watch. Lol
I was able to see him with Eric at The Caverns in Pelham TN last year, Cody was really good ............... Walter Trout opened the show and they played a few tunes together, just tremendous !!!
Eric is well known to be one if the greatest living guitar player. But here Joanne levels up her playing, not yet Eric s level, but ... really bluesy, and what a voice . Both very good 😁👍
Taylor is a fucking beast. She's got the voice of Janis Joplin, the guitar tone of Eric Johnson, and a pretty damn unique playing style that takes serious skill to develop
Tonight is the first time I heard Joanne and she is great. Eric Gales is a living American Treasure. He just gets better and better. This rates as one of the best renditions of this song i have ever heard. It gave me chills.
Looks like Eric is being very encouraging to Joanne. She seemed a little tentative at first and he was just helping and waiting for her to get going. Cool stuff. Two great players.
EG has played numerous axes from different makers, but I believe the one he's playing here is his Brute Drive EG Signature guitar from EWS. Just going by the headstock design. But regardless of the make of guitar he plays, he can lay the lumber. He is mind blowing w/ his dexterity n fluid runs. It's tough enough to be able to glide up n down the fretboard w/ ease the way Eric does anyway, but to be able to pistol whip the instrument in upside down fashion is off the scales! My new fav axe slayer!
Eric is not a normal guy. He is not like every one else you know. Regular every-day-folk-type people are not THAT full of talent. Eric Gales was born a child prodigy - like Mozart. M O Z A R T ! He just appeared with a heep of natural talent & skills, most do not have. Now, of course, that's not enough to become a successful artist - I know. You then gotta' take your talent , your skills, and develop them. Work on them. Every single day. I wonder how many hours a day Eric plays? I bet 8 to 10 hours. The instrument in his hands is a seamless extension of himself - he's a master, with a life time of practice at getting good. My "teacher" tells me you have to reach a place where you are a conduit for a higher source that will pour through you. Eric is that I think - he's a door way to a source, to a higher power, to a higher form of human existence, where we can use MORE of our brains - our creative brain-power ….and - well see what we are capable of? It's astounding what humans can do when we touch some thing more than just our every day world... Eric Gales is only one in a generation though, like a Mozart. He is a treasure. Shows us what greatness there still is in mankind….
Old-Man Parker AND, on top of the that - He does something that NO OTHER ("famous") guitarist has ever done, not Segovia, or Hendrix or Django or Shawn Lane - He does his fretting with his DOMINANT HAND. That's right, he is right handed. And he started playing when he was four. I first heard about him 25 years ago and bought his first album on cassette. He was great BUT not this great. I have to sadly, in some respect, conjecture that his 20+ year drugs history has contributed to the unbelievable level he plays on. Call it the real blues, or what have you, but Eric plays with more "feel" than anyone who is ever picked up an axe. Only Jimi is close...and that is saying a whole helluva lot.
Tom I agree with what you say, but Eric can't match Jimi's peaks... Eric is obviously more skilled (in a mechanistic sense) than Jimi, but in fairness has had alot more time to work on his craft--- But Jimi had another dimension to every aspect of his artistry--- If I could sit down with one of the two to learn some stuff, I would choose Eric, but if I wanted to listen to a concert with either of those two at peak level, I would take Hendrix easy-- That being said, I am really starting to feel that Eric is probably the baddest MF out there right now...him and Trucks are the shining lights...
Is Eric Gales playing the Rory Gallagher festival in Ireland this June bank holiday weekend ? And JST played Dublin a few years ago and rocked the place.. it’s been too long JST.
EG can kill those Eric Johnson runs! I heard an interview where Gales said that EJ was an influence. The mastery of an instrument is a great achievement that sets an artist apart from most, but the master was also a student at one time in their life, and they learned from someone, or something else(...yea God is excluded lol). It's hard to imagine someone like Miles Davis learning from others, but some where/some time he did. Same w/ Hendrix, who was influenced by Albert King, Buddy Guy, n others. The Charlie Parker's, Charlie Patton's, etc...But they all took things they saw, heard, were taught, and emulated them, eventually finding their own style and sound from. Eric Gales has done the same I'm sure; taken all these influences, and mashed them up into his own style, and man does he ever have his own identity! His rapid fire runs are staggering, yet he can slow it down to a crawl making his axe weep, and the crowd as well. He is definitely up there w/ the greats imho! He will only get better, bc though they are masters of their instrument, they will be the first to say that there's plenty to learn still!
Where are all these great guitarist coming from Joanne gave me goosebumps. And Eric nothing needs to be said there 😄 I haven't picked up my guitar in 5 years now I'm even more afraid to pick it up😫
Takes one into the tunnels of the heart that's been hung out to dry. She got the rolling blues spinning round off her tongue. Lord, have mercy!! Two "Choice" artists... Thank you for sharing.... OUCH!!
Better than jimi..Gotta write the songs too, although red house isnt listened to for the lyrics. Erics sit-in with cory wong on meditation is stellar. Wish i could hear eric and Cody(on his strat) do this one!
Oh Man Best Jimi Hendrix Love That How you Playing & Sings Hits Songs Red House Jimi Hear It From Heaven Done Real Good and I Think you Doing Awesome Job Keep it Up,
These two are great... I've seen them live together in holland and joanne was right in front of me and she was shaking.. she looked like she had a breakdown when she needed to retune... they both ended up doing amazing tho. Best set I've experienced.
Damned Joannes Les Paul just blows Erics strat sound away! And her vibrato is just amazing!I usually prefer strats but this is one of the best Les Paul sounds i ever heard and its all in the fingers right!
I'm a lefty player, n wouldn't wish that on anybody starting out on guitar that are left handed lol. It's tough enough progressing as a lefty player(playing standard left hand strung guitars). I would walk into this local music store where I live yrs ago, it was a really big building w/ two floors. Walk upstairs and the whole 2nd floor was dedicated to electric guitars n basses. 500 plus axes covered the walls, just gorgeous instruments. Well w/ a room full of guitars, there would be two left handed guitars at most, n they were junk lol. I felt like a kid in a candy store who was allergic to candy lol. So, as most lefty's starting out, I played junky right hand guitars w/ the strings switched to left hand stringing. As I've gotten older n been playing for alota yrs now, I'm comfortable being a lefty. There's more quality left hand instruments available now days. But if I had it to do all over again, I would have made myself learn to play right handed. 2% of the world population are lefty. That's just strange to me lol. Sorry so winded. I said all that to say, that bc of....I learned to play most chords upside down(standard rt hand tuning), but I can't imagine playing fluid lead that way. Eric Gales, Doyle Bramhall, Albert King, all play/ed that way. All the scales/solo's you play are all upside down. I've never seen anyone who can play masterfully that way like Eric Gales does. He is a phenomenon. Sorry again Gina Always for the long text. Just interesting watching EG vids(the lady is awesome as well).
@@syarbrough8510 I'm lmao and feeling sorry at the same time! Yes times have changed for the lefty players indeed. It makes me wonder with all these amazing, awesome, left handed guitarists and the shit they had to go through just to play! With that talent if they were right handed what would they have sounded like? Left handed players have more talent in so many ways than the usual right handed players. If you get a chance please go see Joanne Shaw Taylor she's so talented and totally amazing. Jo, drummer and base that's all it takes for some great blues! I'm friends with some great players and have been very fortunate to VIP with who I consider the best. I guess I need to remember that in my prayers tonight when times get bad remember what I'm grateful for. I'm having a hard time playing due 3 neck surgeries. Got some beautiful axes that I have to sit in order to play and need to remember at least I can sit and play. Blessings to you, thanks for sharing and making me just about piss my pants laughing!!!🎸✌
I am a HUGE fan of “Redhouse”...and this is one dynamite performance...I’ve just recently discovered EG and blown away and keep searching for more of his work...and now, coming across her adds to my list of searching for her work as well...”It don’t get no gooder than this folks!”
JST played an amazing gig in Dublin Ireland about four years ago with just a drummer and bass player accompanying her. She held the audience spellbound for 90 minutes, I know she since toured with Joe Bonamassa but we want yo know when she us coming back to rock Dublun again....what a talent !! R😎ck on Joanne. Don't keep us waiting..superb
JST is a gift from the gods. She's the playing of Rory Gallagher and the voice of Janis Joplin. Saw her last year, absolutely superb, 5 great studios albums and a live album/dvd to date, she's one helluvva talent !!!! #KeepinTheBluesAlive
Well actually truth be known his brother Manuel (Little Jimmy King) would have been better than both of them if he was still with us ............. RIP LJK
