He's from Austin Texas! I used to listen to him practice at a storage facility on South Lamar Blvd. He's a badass!

@@MusicByDamienA yeah that was back in the early 90s. I was in the sign business and I had a guy in that facility where I got my neon repairs done. We would sit and listen to him practice the same riff over and over until he perfected it.

This is a master showing the experts how it's done my dude. It's so crispy clean it sounds like a machine. Nearly impossible to pull off live.

No vocals needed, he made that guitar sing. This was huge in the late 80's

For a little perspective, Eric Johnson is THE guitarist all guitarist want to be. This song won the Grammy Award for best rock instrumental in 1990. If you were over 10 years old in the 1990’s you know this song. It was the backing music for every tv sporting event, it seemed. I saw him live in a little club in Houston TX in 1991 and was blown away, of course. He’s been one of my favorites ever since. I call him the “finest” guitarist the world has ever known. He has been on the cover of Guitar Player magazine more than any other artist and is still going strong today, having just released an album not long ago. To start, listen to these songs: - Zap (another killer instrumental) - Emerald Eyes - Trail of Tears - Song for George - Desert Rose So many more All these albums are great: - Tones (1987) - Ah Via Musicom (1990) - his biggest album - contains this song and the whole album is stellar. - Venus Isle (1996) - my personal favorite - Bloom (2005) - Up Close (2010) All filled with beautiful songs, incredible guitar work of all styles (not just rock - does a lot of acoustic, some country guitar, a little jazz/fusion type). He was a studio musician when he was young and played on many different types of records.

He is one of my favorite guitar players. You could try Bristol Shore, Zap, Trail of Tears, Righteous.

These reaction videos; it’s so gratifying to watch someone struggle to find the words when they are clearly overwhelmed in the face of sheer talent of this magnitude... a person like this who obviously is highly sensitive to artistic influence- extending even to ‘autonomous reaction’ which he has no control over ( like goosebumps) are even more powerful and gratifying because you can see it happening in real time, often before they have processed the content consciously and intellectually, and there’s those few seconds where the reaction was not initiated by INTENT, but you see something happening to them and their reflexive reaction to it - which to me, guarantees its authenticity or honesty, being uncontaminated by emotion, bias, or social constraint. How often do you get to see THAT? Think about the chain of events that had to occur before such a thing as this developed ... communication network, computers, the internet, personal web presence through social media, proliferation of video and audio recording devices that are actually incidental auxiliary functions of a more generalized communication device who’s primary function is completely different, yet are as ubiquitous as a telephone, and as portable as a click pen or a wristwatch, social media evolving to include websites devoted to public display of video and audio content as it was created and stored on these recording devices - such as RU-vid, and finally, the appearance of content such as this fairly recent phenomenon of “reaction videos” that allows us such close interaction with people around the world. Suggesting to a person in the 80’s, say, that reality would evolve to become one where such interactions were not only commonplace, but actually represented only a fraction of all the things that will become commonplace, that person would think you were describing something that might come about in the next 100 years, but in the next 10 to 20 years, seeing that many things progress to the point that such a scenario could even be dreamed about would strike them as just delusional thinking.

I understood the definition of gobsmacked before, but I never experienced the term fully until you tried expressing yourself in the beginning of the song. Great job, M8. God bless, and peace out, too!

Great reaction to Eric Johnson!! This is from the early 90's, and he won a Grammy for Cliffs of Dover. He is from Austin, so living in Austin we have had the opportunity to see him live many times over the last 30 years plus. He is a master, and has been on the cover of Guitar Player magazine several times. Check out Eric's albums Au Via Musicom, Venus Isle, Bloom, Up Close, EJ acoustic!!

Eric Johnson is probably one of the most versatile guitarists there is. When I first heard heard him back in 1990 he absolutely blew me away! You need to check out this video and many of his other stuff. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XwYa0rZNFBM.html

Pausing helps keep reactions from getting flagged or taken down, but he did pause it just as it got really good…he could have backed it up a few seconds on starting it back up
