I'm so happy to see Greg on a stage with EJ - Greg should have been equally as known as EJ by now - and I really love EJ too - but Greg is such a great player that he should have been known by the public years ago. So thanks to EJ for this tip of the hat to Greg!
I saw Eric Johnson in 86 or 87 in Houston with Pat Travers. Eric was amazing even then. Has not lost a trick. Greg is a recent find in the last few years, and never disappoints. The two together is fantastic. LIVE ALBUM FELLAS
Greg is a monster of the guitar. Techinque + Humour. Rare these days. They're both nodding to Jeff Beck, and thats ok, in my book. Ive been playing for 45 years, and these players are at the top of their tree.
Gentle Giant Greg Koch is such a beast ..underrated string strangler if there ever was one. He plays with humor in a way other guitarists just can't touch! Great combo with Eric and Greg together!
I dunno... there's something about EJ that just doesnt "work" for me. He's undoubtedly a great player, but he's too emotionless (clinical?) in his playing... almost like Robert Fripp. I saw him a few years ago with the "Experience Hendrix" tour. He spent more time screwing with his amp & effects pedals than playing anything of significance. He must have been doing all that for his own ear, because there was no difference in his tone after the endless number of times he'd stop playing (mid song) and adjust something. Just IMO.
Makes the guitar cry and whine without a whammy bar. Just saw him with my dad and bro a couple weeks ago he and Dylan Koch ended the showing playing together it was insane to say the least. Blown away! Toby played some mean keys too. The coolest part aside from Greg signing my album Dylan was disassembling his drums when I thanked him for an awesome show and asked to sign my cd. He stopped taking apart the kit and said yea man thank you let’s go to the mercy table to grab a marker. You guys are so humble and great at what you do. Thank you for a night with my dad and bro I won’t ever forget. Thank you KMT!
It's fun to watch you push eric outside his usual stuff! Definitely could see his ear pick up some of your stuff and take aim at some similar sounds and modes.
What a treat. Last collaboration of such greatness I seen at RPI Field house Troy NY with Jeff Beck and Stevie Ray Vaughan doing this tune. In a couple months SRV would be gone.
That was epic. Greg looks like a man among muppets. I knew he was tall, but that perspective really shows what a giant he is. A melodious giant of guitar groove, but still a giant.
hilarious how these guitar gods get so used to having their asses kissed.... then get on stage with greg and he shows them how lazy and weak they are on fundamentals.
Virtuosity both and yet uninspired by this JB spoke all that needed to be said in this jam. With all that talent on stage they cannot collaborate to create something new, something refreshing and giving something that’s makes you say wow how did they do that. Nothing like safe freeway jam yawn. Sorry for offending anyone
