Literally any track on a J.J Johnson or Slide Hampton record features a better trombone solo than what I just heard. Nakagawa-san is a phenomenal trombonist, much respect to him, but I don't know about the whole musical perfection thing, in terms of harmony it was far from satisfying, even if it's over Rocky music.
@@MikkoLaulainen ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OEx7tCB9hG0.html , tell me how the trombone solo above can compare to the JJ solo I just linked. In terms of harmony, clarity, phrasing, time feel and technique it just blows most others out of the water. I gave Mr. Nakagawa his due respect, all I was saying is that particular solo is very far from "musical perfection".
@@jro1472 I can agree he is an amazing player, but to me eijiro's solo fit perfectly with gonna fly now. Plus these are two very different styles of music. Slow jazz is meant to have that soft airy tone and fluidity, but gonna fly now is an upbeat song that was written to get your adrenaline pumping, and what better than a fast paced solo with jet like tone, octave switches, and those held high notes that he glisses into? Plus even with such a short amount of time, he was really able to get a lot into it
Great performances by all, but I came back just to listen to that trombone solo again... with the 20 or so seconds he was allotted, I don't think he could have possibly done a better job.
I'm going to come out and say it- Eric is my favorite trumpet player. He gets such a rich tone and has a flexibility that is flawless, which even Maynard struggled to achieve. Love hearing him play every time.
I agree - I like Erics tone much more than Maynard -- but there was only one Maynard - Maynard knew how to get down and dirty with his tone - which I also liked --
@@DNKG669considering the fact that everyone here is commenting on how good the trombone solo was(which is really good btw) I think “he” refers to the trombonist.
Miyashiro is insanely good. When he plays other concerts he grooves out and sounds great. It actually appears that he was having an off night here. You can tell when he kind of grimaces at the end. He knows he can do it way better. Even so, he did a great job.
The skill of these guys/girls are crazy. But the thing that got me was their TONE. I mean seriously their individual sound is just amazing espcially bone and bari IMO. Great to listen to.
Man, I just can't say enough about that trombone player. Fantastic, classic sound. VERY well in tune, and great ideas played on a very hard instrument to solo well on. One of the best trombone players I have ever heard ~
verdaderamente de lujo que sonido el saxo baritono sorprendente gracias x existir muchachos al escucharlos me dan aliento a seguir viviendo GUILLERMO DE SALTA ARGENTINA
I think that Eric is one of the few guys alive that still captures maynard in terms width of sound and character. But no one will ever be like the boss.
this is the very first song I ever heard from maynard im sure hed be damn proud of eric he sounds almost identical to maynard he learned from the best did I mention maynard is was and will always be the best trumpet player in the world IMHO I love erics playing its like maynard livs on lol
Du grand art, avec un A majuscule ! Merci hhaayydn de nous faire partager 4 minutes de bonheur absolu. Bravo Eric Miyashiro et tous ses musiciens d'exception.
I saw Eric when he was with Buddy Rich's band in 1985 or 86. He was fantastic back then, and you could tell by the way Buddy reacted to his solos that Buddy was quite impressed.
glad nobody commented on how he blundered that note at the end, this takes incredible chops to play at this level and this intensity and this much tone throughout KUDOS
Eric has fantastic chops and a very distinct style that I really like to listen to. Funny on this video, the bari sax player starts his solo about 5 seconds too early - check 1:25. Looks like the other musicians are chuckling
Best rendition yet! Chords got a little funky for the tenor guy, but wow, trumpet licks were tasty! The bone and bari guys were solid! Synth guy did his homework too... kept it full of color. Nice Eric!
Yes, Eric has his own model made by Yamaha that is, unfortunately, only available in Japan for the time being. He also has a custom trumpet AND flugel mouthpiece made by Yamaha with the outside design of Maynard's old FBL mouthpiece. If you search through Yamaha's Japanese sites hard enough, it's all there. While I'm typing, may I also say that Eric's solo in the beginning is awesome! I've never heard anyone do that before, and Eric pulls a great lick out of nowhere...genius!
He is amazing he can tongue while playing that high, wow thats very hard to cause your tongue arches, his sound almost sounds electric and nice solos by the rest of them all great.
