1. The age gap between Ledroit and William was wild. It distracted me the whole show. William looked 25-30 years older. I’m glad they cleared up how they met at the concert. At first, I thought Ledroit used to be an escort at the Lux (given the history) and William used to be his client, and they fell in love later. And what’s going on with Gator and Ledroit? Did they use to date? Were they friends with benefits? I feel like The Lux and the backstory of character dynamics there needed an episode on its own. 2. Yussuf deserved an ending. He cared for and protected Edgar. I was hoping that Vincent would’ve told the NYPD about this and that it would’ve cleared his name in the press. That way Yussuf would’ve had a chance at a better life. Heck, Yussuf should’ve been in the audience at the taping of Good Day Sunshine. One subtle shot of him there would’ve been fitting. It would’ve been cool for him to practically see all of Edgar’s art live in motion. Even better, a small dialogue between him and Edgar. 3. Back to the age gaps, Sebastian was Cassie’s student. When did this happen? Was he groomed? It said he was around 20 years younger. I feel like the showrunners really have a thing for these kinds of relationships.
@kylemx15

1. Why do you need an explanation for the relationship between two guys, who love each other? Why does the age matter? Even if Ledroit was his Escort (although he is detectiv), it's their own business 😂. 2..Yussuf should have "given Edgar back" to his mother, from the first moment he recognized him. Also he wanted to take advantage of the situation. 3. WHO CARES?????

Is it possible that everything we see relating to Vincent, Edgar, and Cassie after Vincent passes out isn't real? Just the last bits of Vincent's brain activity giving him a peaceful end? When we see him come to after "Eric" kicks him his lips are blue. When we see Edgar in the diner he doesn't look at all like a kid that has been living underground for over a week, fell several feet into a flooded drain and then climbed back out. There is not a mark on him, his hair isn't matted, his hands aren't scratched or dirty, and he's clean. It's implied that Vincent had done harder drugs than he was doing currently, it is not uncommon for people to overdose the first time they go back to an old substance because their tolerance levels just aren't the same.

I actually really like the ending?! Even though it’s very “fairytale” I think it wrapped up Vincent’s healing arc pretty well, even verses the dark story that brought him there. Edgar has like this untouchable innocence so I did see him living until the end. We heard from the landlord as an example of Vincent’s failure as a father, he never lets his son win the race home, implying that he could never put his son above himself. I think Edgar choosing to come back on his own was the only way he could’ve effectively shown forgiveness to his dad, willing to come back home to him. We even see in this end scene Vincent waits in the middle of the street right before he gets home to let Edgar win, showing his effort towards changing and doing the right thing as a father. Loosing Edgar exposed all of Vincent’s flaws which yes, had a lot of darkness which landed him literally at rock bottom but it’s only when he pushes through the darkness in perseverance to find Edgar does he face his inner demons and finds the sunshine where he can own up to all of his mistakes and convince his son to forgive him. I loved it and I love happy endings!! LOL

I really enjoyed it but I felt the same about the ending. I actually thought that Edgar died with Raya after they both fell and the rest of it was imaginary. It was just too good to be true. Edgar surviving and seeing his dad on tv and then running home to find him was like a fairy tale. Also was cctv that clear back then? Isn't it meant to be 1985?I feel like it wouldn't have been that easy to see their faces.

One of my top 25 shows as of now. I think that writing was quite strong, even if sometimes a bit seemingly messy, but the acting sold it every time.... it explored a lot of topics, played with a lot of genres, and kept me on the edge of my seat. After I finished it, I went to reddit in hopes to find a community that celebrated such an interesting show, only to find such a negative reaction... Im not quite sure why? I get how some people may think the social commentary can be quite on the nose at times, but art doesn't need to be subtle nor quite about its message. This shows message shouldn't raise such a large level of audience hatred... Racism, the corrupting nature of power, sexual identity within a society that punishes but yet exploits you for it, and dysfunctional family units. It wrapped each characters story up well enough, while leaving us with space to breathe. I have a few issues with some of the characters endings but at the end of the day they all met their inevitable comeuppance or took their own personal autonomy back, it felt satisfying... IDK, I think media these days is getting such backlash for being "woke" that people aren't willing to give new art a chance, and aren't willing to engage with it in any meaningful manner.

It's been a long time since I've encountered a series as well-written as this one. The storyline is captivating and skillfully constructed, keeping viewers engaged with its unpredictable twists and turns. The acting is superb, with performances that truly bring the characters to life. What sets this series apart is its ability to maintain an element of surprise; the plot is far from predictable, ensuring that audiences remain intrigued from beginning to end. Additionally, the series serves as a powerful eye-opener, shedding light on critical issues that are often overlooked or underestimated. The creators have done an exceptional job in raising awareness about a sensitive and important topic, adding a layer of depth and relevance to the entertainment. Overall, this series is a remarkable achievement, combining top-notch storytelling with a meaningful message. Highly recommended for anyone seeking both quality entertainment and a thought-provoking experience.

I somehow didn’t notice there was 6th episode so for me the final was 5th ep where edgar falls into sewer and it was shocking , it felt much more like real life where it doesn’t always end up with fairy tales. I literally couldn’t move for few mins, i was angry and impressed that they did this to me dd, making me feel like happy ending was ahead and just end it that brutally killing all the hopes was craazy, it was like the ending of memories of murder, leaving u empty handed. So this series was like complete dark drama for me until the next day when I discovered there was 6th ep and i knew right away that fairy tale was coming, it was very cute ending, liked it also. so in the end i got myself that dark ending that fitted with the rest of the episodes better and also that fairy one as bonus))) i think perfect ending would be if solving marlons case story from 6th ep was in 5th ep with its ending where edgar falls

I totally agree with you as well that the ending itself came out of almost nowhere and as such it didn't really seem deserved. Personally I think that Vincent should have had a far darker ending, which is actually what I thought we got at the very, very end where I assumed for a second that Edgar was actually dead and that Vincent was imagining like he did Eric, which would have been a far better way to finish up as far as I'm concerned. But hey, at least everybody's happy, right?

Luckily, I had my moment of truth and without any harm was able to return back. But it shocked me from inside as I saw child prostitution on streets and pedophiles grooming or forcing children to do what they like. I pray everyday that we have the world where no-one would have to live on streets.

I think that people are missing the point of the ending. It is framed as a happy ending but is anything but. While Edgar, the son’s version of Eric is a jovial, bright character he thought up for the show Good Day Sunshine, it is drastically different from Vincent, the father’s version. His is a representation of his subconscious. His version is all of the bad parts of himself. His Eric embodies his disillusion, contempt and anger brought on by his abuse of alcohol and drugs The final shot of Vincent’s subconscious version of Eric watching over Vincent and Edgar connecting after Vincent has been trying to get clean alludes to the possibility of Vincent’s repressed bad habits coming back. Although he has made the effort to change and create a new start, a lot of addicts eventually relapse.

I just got down watching this show and I absolutely loved it it was gritty it was realistic it was messy and it was mentally unstable as some of us are in life or become the shining stars is Benedict cumberbatch and the black actor who played the lead detective they deserve all the awards period I also loved the actor with the dreadlocks who helped Edgar in the tunnels Now what did I not like I didn’t like how everyone literally everyone was so shitty and down right mean to Vincent yes was he hard to deal with at times yes was he sometimes difficult to communicate with you but they were all so brutal and I just didn’t think it needed to be so pointed with the character Also I could not stand the actress playing the wife I’m sorry and I had no sympathy for her as a women myself who’s experienced issues in relationships just because things aren’t going right does not mean it’s ok to go and screw another man and get pregnant by him all while your still living and married to your husband who’s been none the wiser to your infidelity’s I also get tired of the women throwing men out of the house trope for once I want to see a man say no I’m not leaving but you can leave now

@user-mi5tu2rq6r is it true tho or is she just projecting on him. She went one step further and got pregnant. She wouldn't even let him grieve properly when Edgar left, when he presented his plan to make the puppet to reach Edgar, she cut him down rather than working with him to try anything to reach their son.

Agreed, the "feel-good ending" was an odd juxtaposition to overall dark theme of the show. But unconsciously that's what my brain wanted? For him to get back to his parents? So I got the ending I wanted but.. it still felt not right? I don't know that I agree with Edgar never really being in any "real danger". The scene where he's cast down a rope, then thrown into a room and all you can see is a bunk bed had really dark implications, even if it didn't end up being, that. Then the woman who was taking him to meet a pedo had my stomach tied in knots. And I so wanted to know what happened with Yussuf :(

I loved it. ❤ it was very dark in places, and knowing all the characters were intertwined was hard at first . Then it all made sense. And I had a few tears at the end. I loved the music throughout it all. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Benedict Cumberbatch will be considered one of the best actors to grace the screen. I first took notice of him in the mini series "The End of the Parade". His performance and the writing of this series is commendable; very smart , creative, and captivating. What is wrong with a so called happy or fairy tale ending? We sure could use more of these. Thank you, Mr. Cumberbatch.

The ONLY question i have about the ending is what happened to the graffiti guy? i fully expected the dad to be back at the show, but i sort of though we might see that he got the graffiti guy a job on the show in the prop department or stage design or something. using his artistic abilities.

Just finished watching the series. And the tone switches I just couldn't ignore. From Drug Addiction and Alcohol addiction, Political and Law Enforcement Corruption, PDF Files, Childhood trauma, repressing your preferences because of, the 80s, homelessness, which is even more rampant today. There were moments where I thought, is this a comedy? Just some really weird tonal shifts. Otherwise Benedict did an awesome job.

He was involved in shady activity at the prior club that got shut down, they never said the age, but he was involved in purchasing prostitutes there, he was on the news because he was famous. I dont think he was ever charged or got prosecuted, because I'm sure a lot of that stuff was hard to prove & people didn't want to talk or snitch, & of course the police don't want to bust individuals while they are building a case to find the ring leader or enough to shut down that club, but he was watched and had a file on him, It's possible more information would have been found & revealed, and if it was minors & who knows how low the age was? It was enough for him to feel the shame & would clearly be fired from that show, disgraced, incredibly shameful being a children's show.

A key aspect is the one that’s discarded by Eric in the darkness you see (the light) the stars. It’s the theme of the show. The fear of the darkness that lies within the theme of accepting who you are…while morally I’m not in agreement with the agenda of “accepting who you are” I do believe that’s the theme here and quite frankly the hesitation of accepting who we are is the monster that presents itself. Only when we accept who we are (in the darkness and the literal in the sewer as the mole puts in in the puppet scene and the same literally adaptation for Eric descending to the sewers/drugs) can we see the stars (the light/ self actualization and growth Eric Ascending from the sewers and embracing who he is and focusing on benefiting others IE his son by wearing the monster that figuratively was his attributes he did not like about himself the parts that gravitated him to the darkness) the show had to end with a light up-hearted message because it’s the theme of the entire show.

I feel like vincent really got the worst of it in the end. There was that day he kept getting gut punch after gut punch, he got fired from his job, his ideas stolen, as well as his way to find his son, cassie kicked him out, admitted to not only sleeping with another man while sneaking him in and out of the house while still managing to have him meet edgar but also being pregnant with sebastians child...fuck me that is the day from hell. I feel like cassie got off a little bit easily compared to vincent, only because he accepted his faults and tried to make a change. I'm not saying he was an angel, and his addiction alienated everyone around him, definitely. His friend, family, and cassie didn't let him grieve and work through it his own way by building the puppet and finding his son.

Binged it all yesterday, normally I find Crime/Procedural shows a bit "Adult Scooby Doo" as they're a series of clichés, love how they didn't have the Gay chara being super obvious/token right from the start [Something else that really makes me cringe, like they have to constantly remind us like 'thats all they are' ]
