Eric the Car Guy is here! He's visiting TRQ to explain check engine codes to you! In this video, Eric the Car Guy checks out code P0128, which usually has to do with the coolant thermostat. The full description of the code is “Coolant Thermostat (Coolant Temperature Below Thermostat Regulating Temperature)” which usually means the engine coolant is not getting hot enough. This often happens when the thermostat that regulates coolant temperature is stuck open, which allows coolant to flow through the radiator when it doesn’t need to. Check out the video to learn more!

Hey Eric- You just saved us a ton of money... as usual. OBD-II scan tools provide the problem codes but your insight and short videos give us the tools to fix those issues (or let a certified mechanic fix them). Have the best New Year with you and your family.

I replaced the radiator in my 2006 Chevrolet 6.0 with an aluminum 3 core. Ps0128 now coming up. Could it be the thicker radiator throwing this code?

Man, I wish the thermostat on my old Montana (3.4L GM) was that easy to get to. It’s a nightmare, even with the special thermostat wrench.

Ive changed my thermostat because the engine was not getting hot quick enough. I still cant get the engine hotter than 75c (therm rated at 82c) It's cold here in the UK, about 5c at the moment. Ive also replaced the coolant temp sensor. Could it just be the OBD reading is wrong? Car still takes a while to get to temp.

Hello, what is the viscosity of the engine oil for the 2013 Elantra? The engine capacity is 1800. I live in Iraq, and in the summer the temperature reaches approximately 45 degrees Celsius.
