I just love how Ermal looks so cute and shy here, while Fabrizio is, like, the badass hot guy, but actually Fabrizio is way cuter and sweeter than he appears and Ermal has this amazing sarcastic sense of humor and jokes all the time.
I cannot help notocing how different these two are from most of the other competitors.... sometimes I think they must feel a bit overwhelmed by all this showbiz...probably a bit like Salvador last year .... and personally I love them.
italian showbiz is REALLY different from the international one. I usually don't listen much to italian music (and I'm italian) but I can say that music here's always been a bit different, the greatest italian singer were old-style songwriters (like Fabrizio De André or Celentano), musicality was given through the words...now I see lot of commercial music in Italy because we're trying to get into the international showbiz and even though is a great opportunity for italian music I feel that we have lost a little of personality. BUT Fabrizio and Ermal tried to bring back our music origins, no tecno music, no fireworks, simple (but complex) melody. I loved this song 😍
If people searched for the song's meaning they'd realise how much of an amazing song it is, it's not englision guys! This should be related to last year's winner song as it's the same powerful.
"It's not possible that Fabrizio does not speak English, very good Ermal". Stop because they have had different studies. Ermal studied to become an interpreter while Fabrizio did not. It is really difficult to learn English by talking it fluently in Italy because it has completely different grammatical rules, the word is pronounced differently from how it is written while we do not.
Albanian grammar, it's more complexed than the english grammar, ...also pronounciation is the same as it is written (not like english) and the vocabulary is quite distinct from any other Indo-European branches...... - Just imagine for a sec, how much worst it's for Asians... meaning, the issue does not remain on how difficult the language is, than rather the time consuming and dedication into it. Anyway, ...both guys are talented artist and for sure wish them both best of luck.
Unfortunately there will always be judgemental people, and for sure many will talk trash, however... it's up to us, how much we should take them seriously, or worth it on paying any attention or care about their BS. Enjoy ur day Chiara

You can see how good are Albanians with foreign languages. Look at Ermal how he speaks English, just perfect, the same way he speaks Italian ( not to mention Albanian).🇦🇱
being an interpreter I am so glad italians do not speak english! hahah but at the same time i feel sorry for Fabrizio, it's like having foreign friends and them starting to speak their own language so that you cannot understand what they are talking about XD
Like ermal you ask as intiligentman for your origin #ALB and italy don't be jealous, because all albanian people much love italy, are neighbours, every year watching sanremo. Goodluck Italy, maybe will have 12 points in final from #Alb
It must be so awkward when interviewers have to seem to pay attention to acts speaking a different language when they really have nothing to play attention to but to wait for the translation.
Erik Emerölduson why?? Ermal is an educated guy. He has a university graduation, he's considered a poet in Italy, because of the beautiful use of the words in his lyrics. He was a geek at school. He's of Albanian descent and Albanians have a gift for foreign languages. He speaks Albanian and Italian perfectly and it doesn't surprise me that he has a decent English.
LOL19410 We are gifted at learning languages *just because* we speak albanian. If you do your reserach on albanian language: you'll find out why. We preseved a lot archaic features. Our alphabet has 36 letters. The _gegë dialect_ (northern albanian dialect) has up to 9 nasal vowels more than Toskë (south and standard albanian). We may be _"poor"_ when it comes to GNP; but in Linguistics - we're not poor at all. We preserved _Optative;_ found in _ancient Hellenic and Sanskrit._ Yet not present in modern Greek. We have _Ablative; found in Latin_ - yet _not found in any italic-romance language._ If you compare italian - albanian verb conjugation; note how much more you need to learn in albanian, but there are still a lot similarities. You would _see_ it when you speak both languages. Italic-Romance languages are not "alien" to us. A lot albanians learned italian with tele-novelas. About 1/3 from albanian is connected to latin. But albanian is still an own branch, like Armenian and Greek. Consider the fact that latin classical pronounciation for the word "onion" was with a /k/ sound, written with a "c", hence "[C]ēpa". It's what you'll find in northern albanian: _[K]epa_ ("the onion"), _[K]epë_ ("onion"). In italian "[c]ipolla, not with /k/, but /tʃ/. You'll find the preserved /k/ also in Sardinian. But northern albanian is still closer to "cēpa" than sardinian itself. PS: "Cēpa" was a loanword from an _unknown_ language. Eleni's "albanian" is quite lame. Usually english fits for albanophon ppl pretty well. The way albanians pronounce "r" reminds others (f.e. greeks, german) on english. That's why Elenis English has a greek undertone, accent - not an albanian accent. Albanians lose their albanian accent real quick; greek don't, they need longer. Also: Greek and Spanish speakers have almost the same accent when they speak english. Even spanish and greek - althought total different languages - sound very similar.
LOL19410 Jetoj në Zvicër. Por nuk do të thotë se unë nuk e di si shqiptarët e mësuan italishten, spanjishten, etj. Kam familje në Shqipëri. Gjithmonë në kontakt me ta. i love their style especially the Albanian one and their song has to be in top 5. I find unacceptable though an artist participating in Eurovision without knowing any English at all, actually I find unbelievable in 2018 in European Union countries people not speaking at least English.
chalaros samos He’s 43. When he was a kid and went to school, they didn’t teach English because it was not considered important as it is now. In Italy, people that speak English are mostly young people just because they have learnt it in school, but in the past they taught only French as foreign language.
wow, only French? had 2 foreign languages at school; English compulsory and German was my own choice (most have French) in Greek schools as a second language and I am 36... guess it has to do with the different educational system... in Greece people of his age CANNOT apply even for a cleaning job in public and private sector if they don't have basic skills in English... also people say French and Italien are a bit snob on learning foreign languages, I am not sure if this is a stilly stereotype though. Thank you though because I did not know French could have been the 1st foreign language to be taught in Italy
chalaros samos yeah in the past, they taught mainly French (my parents actually studied French in school and they don’t know English). Obviously now the school system has changed in Italy and we study a lot of languages and English is mandatory, but in the past it was so different. Btw, now young people have to know English to apply for work (all type of work like you said). In Italy we are not snob about leaning foreign languages, I just feel that most people aren’t good at learning it because we are not used to listen to it (our media are actually in Italian). About French... well, I’ve been there and yeah I don’t think that’s a stereotype because when I asked them something in English, they understood but always replied in French...
He's 43 and in Italy students began to learn English SERIOUSLY only in 80's or 90's in primary school. Before that moment in Italy students could choose between French or English, now English is compulsory and we start learning it at 5-6
yeah, 'cause he is 43 years old, plus he is a guy of Rome's suburb, to support himself Fabrizio worked while he played music, on the contrary Ermal studied at Italian university English, so...
Don't know then before the competition but Ermal seems like a very nice guy. Can't believe Fabrizio doesn't speak English, I know he is not the only one but still a shame.
Fabrizio is 43 years old, schools in Italy started teaching English since Kindergarden only recently. (I'm 24 and my school started teaching it only when I was 7). If I'm not mistaken, earlier you had to study only French at school. So, please, understand him, he was born in a time when English was not perceived as the global language. Ermal is 37, so he's not very young himself, but he can speak English because he went to University here in Italy and studied languages.
I will learn Italian someday in the near future and understand what he is saying without translation guy 🤗🤗😋..he is doing fine without English.he is a singer not a English writer.
I just love to listen to Fabrizio, I try to understand what he is saying, and I will keep on listening to Ermal's and Fabrizio's songs after ESC is over.
Pls consider the fact that an italian can learn very fast other italic-romance languages, such as spanish, portuguese, etc. Bc they are in the same branch and lexically very close to eachother. Ermal's mothertongue is albanian. His italian is also fluent; making it also pass as a mothertongue. Also albanian learn very fast italian; bc there are some similarities in grammar and lexically (mainly latin). Immigrants are bi-lingual; which makes it even easier to learn more languages. English is a germanic language. There are sounds in english that don't exist in italian (but in albanian) - except in dialect (toscany, the θ/"th"). Or the way english speakers pronounce "r": which is what is also found in albanian, yet not in german. Also there are grammar features of english that you'll find in albanian too - but not italian. Maybe english fits for ermal more than for Fabrizio. Idk why it should be a "shame" if you don't speak english. They are *representing Italy and sing in italian.*
Paolina Teneva, I understand what you're saying. I'm Italian and I'm studying languages at University, so I really would like all Italians to speak English at least. But I was born here and grew up here, so I also understand Italy's history. Sadly, if you don't learn at least a second language when you're young, it will be difficult for you to learn any other language when you get older. This is why, in my opinon, many adults here in Italy can't learn English nowadays, because they didn't have the chance to learn it before and it's not easy to do it now. Obviously there are exceptions. Anyway, today most of young Italians can speak English without any problem.
