@@ferox965 You know what? I had ferrets because I could not have ermines as pets. Loved them and still miss them - but I remember what an enormous responsibility it was!
of course..."Gwen a Du" white & black in brit language...Hermine...like the brit symbol of french Britain..Bretagne...Sometime my brain is off...thanks for the little remind and for the great vid'
Fascinating & terrifying little critters ! 😆 Their little hearts room at 900bpm and they have to eat their own body weight every day. They're the hummingbirds of the mammal world.
It likely smelled like the hot dogs so took a bite. Had it happen a few times with animals, they realize it's not it fairly quickly and let go. (It's why so many surfers get away from sharks, we're apparently not very tasty)
I've only ever seen a stoat a handful of times in England but they move so fast its almost impossible to to get a really good look. Amazing beautiful animals.
The trick is to ignore them, like you don't see them. DON'T look at them and they come right up in your face checking out your ears after a while. Staring is aggression - also among animals :)
These little guys have to eat their own bodyweight everyday.you have one of these living around your home, and you'll never have to worry about rodents 👍
Last summer I took my grandson fishing. A mink (about 15 inches long from nose to tail) came up to us, stood on his hind legs and begged for food. We hadn't caught anything yet, so after about a minute he realized that he wasn't going to get a handout. He went into the water, swam to the bottom then came out of the creek on the other side clutching a sunfish in his teeth.
I have one of these adorable weasels in my yard too! I've named him Swiper. I keep little meat scraps to give him & the other day my husband caught me as I called him & the little guy appeared & got fed. He just shook his head & laughed. He'd rather I didn't feed every wild animal around. Lol
@@jamesodonnell8290 Correct. Carnivorous mammals probably learn the world out there first by smelling. And it's probably easy for them to learn the difference between a knack and a Human finger (which hasn't touched the knack beforehand), even from 10 meters or further.
Awwww so cute but fierce predators! ❤️ I saved a stoat when I was young growing up on a farm. It's mother had been hit by a vehicle on the road and it was clinging to her. So I cuddled him and took him home as you do as a 8 year old. 😁🐁❤️
Or as a grown up… saving someone isn’t something we all grow out of. Don’t judge me 🙂 though where I’ve lived I’ve never seen one of these, i just get cats 😁

Wow this was great. So cute, I like how you slowly built up to hand feeding him. I want to try that if I ever see a weasel( we don’t have stoats in America as far as I know.) and ease it up to hand feeding.
Abrahem Samander where are you in America? We live on the Great Lakes and my husband just saved one of these cute little guys from my cat so I’m trying to find out how to keep him healthy until he’s strong enough to go
That was awesome! We don’t have stoats in America, so I love being able to see them on video. I was waiting for the part when she tried to take your fingertips away. Haha So cute! Thanks for sharing! xoxo
The word Stoat is a common name, that derived from a word meaning Bold, Brave. Some places use Stoat, some don't, so all stoats are Weseals, but not all Weasels are Stoats. So (Mustela nivalis) is commonly known as Least Weasel, Little Weasel, Common Weasel, or just Weasel. (Mustela erminea) is commonly known as Common Stoat, or just Stoat, Short-Tailed Weasel, Beringian Ermine. (Mustela richardsonii) is commonly known as American Ermine, American Stoat, American Short-Tailed Weasel. (Mustela haidarum) as Haida Ermine. The word Weasel derived from a word meaning smelly animal. The name Short-Tailed Weasel is used because in America you have (Neogale frenata) that is known as the Long-Tailed Weasel, Bridled Weasel, Masked Ermine, or Big Stoat.
I love how they run away with the food everytime like they stole it or something hahaha. They are the cutest little busy bodies, I only heard of a stoat the first time a year ago, I love when the internet shows me cute species I have never seen. So unique and adorable! Wish I had that energy haha
Simply adorable. I Have been rescuing ferrets for 26 yrs. I have seen much abuse & that's why I rescue them. They come to my house & are healed & never caged. Eat good healthy foods, clean water & clean beds. They get to go outside. Which most of them have never done. They run around the house, have lots of toys, & sleep in the bottom drawer of my (their) dresser. You are doing an amazing job with these tiny ones. Keep up the good work.
Never knew they could change fur colors! That’s so amazing! Sorry if I’m not right with saying changing fur colors. Not an expert with these animals. 😂
this is one of those videos i come across, every now and then. it reminds me that life has some cool parts, mixed in with the junk. nice video, thanks for the upload, and pick me up
If you can afford it buy some rabbit/quail/spatchcock and feed her portions. Better for her. Most processed human food isnt fit for animals let alone humans. Very cute tho.
YES this is the very same thing I would say! When I was owned by ferrets, I would treat them with raw chicken hearts, rabbit lungs/hearts, chicken liver, so I would feed similar things to an ermine (I am a vegan but I understand that mustelids are obligate carnivores!)
My kitty just got done thouroughly enjoying this video, seen her 1st one the other day, told her to leave it live, love them, first one I seen in at least 3 or 4 years
They are so cute. Especially in their winter fur. ❤❤❤ I wish they could make good pets, but unfortunately not. But the next Best thing would be to make Them tame enough to feed Them like this 😍😍😍
Man, weasels are cute. I've only seen them wild two times in 45 years. I've actually seen more bobcats wild than weasels. Four bobcats and two weasels.
They looked absolutely adorable! It's so cool that you could hang out with them. However feeding hot dogs might be a little too salty for their little bodies? Just a thought.
Now that is a baby. A real total angel. I mean it is a vicious carnivore, but, damn cute to eat meat by hand. This critter is not at all an indoor weasel I am guessing. There is another who had rescued a little guy like yours but as a tiny baby as its mother passed on I think. So from birth they had a relationship unlike this cutie who I am guessing adopted you? Look into my other little buddy, he is named ... OZZY THE TABLE WEASEL! He is a tiny dude compared to this fellow. Funny video from OZZY is the OZZY War Dance. Him vs. a stuffed elephant toy. Good times for cute friends.
The truth - she got quite good to separate the finger from the hot-dog, even if the smell is the same (me touching it). Her teeth is razor sharp, I got to feel that in the beginning :) Now she is very gentle - until she got the real hot-dog. Then she have no mercy.
Well, she stores it for later. If I give 5 hot dogs she will stay away for days. Just one, she will be back next day for more. Fish is a problem, because she stores it near by and it starts to smell after a few days. So, I try to not over-feed.
Mustelids have incredibly high metabolic rates. They have to be hunting and killing all the time to 'stay fed'. This chap is in effect saving the lives of local birds and rabbits etc providing an alternative food source.
I can’t believe how bold it is! I’m reliably assured that the woods and fields around my house has a really good population of them and yet they’re so shy I’ve literally never seen one :(
l've always loved the mustela family of mammals that also includes the mongoose and the mink..l wonder if this video was shot in North America or Europe... anyway you're lucky to be surrounded by wildlife and all humans should advocate for no killing or farming for fur... Mariano Vico Guitarist and English teacher from Havana Cuba.
Mongooses were never considered part of Mustelidae, until more recently, they were considered part of the family Viverridae due to their molecular similarities to civets, however, recent studies now treat mongooses as a separate family (Herpestidae) from Viverridae.
Aren't the preservatives and stuff in the hot dogs bad for the stoat? Adorable video though! Does the little brown guy have a name as well or just the white one?
These little guys are so adorable. I'd be careful holding that hot-dog with your bare hands though. These guys have surprisingly powerful bite strength. Easily capable of removing a nice chunk from your fingers!
