She is great in this role but, for some reason, her voice sounds pale and not so dramatic as it should be in this scene. This is happening with most sopranos these days. True spinto voices are now very rare to find.
@@michaelfuting2403 I beg to differ from your opinion my dear. If I wanted to see an artist interpreting a dramatic role only by facial expressions I would go to the theater. Opera is mainly about singing and emotions should be expressed by the voice. Well, it used to be this way in a not so distant past. Just a matter of personal taste, though.
A pale reflection, colorless performance. Hayashi's Butterfly eclipses this performance on all counts, acting, voice, the ability to, even in the death scene, show resignation and still, strength. This was over the top almost amateurish.
