Vern did! A Lay's chips commercial Varney made had Vern's shadow and silhouette grow larger before it cuts to black. Ernest was genuinely scared stupid!
It's funny how you compare them! Both George Carlin and Jim Varney were by far the two best comedians ever and some of the most important people in my life. R.I.P. to them both!
Ahhh, Braum's ice cream, some of the best in the world if you ask me or anyone in my immediate famly. *laughs* Since my sister went off to school at OSU in Stillwater, OK and ended up marrying an Okie (they live in Edmond now), we've all gotten to sample our fair share of Braum's ice cream. Good stuff! And Jim Varney as Ernest in a Braum's commercial? That's just icing on the cake, know what I mean Vern?!
yeah I was a little kid in TX in the mid 80s, and several years before the Ernest movies, we knew him as "the Braum's guy" or "hey Vern!". Then we moved, and the movie was announced... was funny explaining to kids my shock as I was like "but he sells ice cream, now he gets a movie too?" when they had no idea who he was at all (Braum's is Texas, OK, AR and maybe nearby but not where we moved to).
I came across a Braum's while driving cross country. Unfortunately they didn't have a country fried steak sandwich on the menu but their crispy chicken they had was excellent! Sonic's in Texas have a great CFS sandwich though.
Ernest is that ONE friend you wanna yell at for eating things off your plate, going through your fridge drinking all the Mellow Yellow, and pops in without notice when you wanna relax. But hes a good guy and you cant help but breathe through your nose and shake your head while smiling😌
While we never had Braum's, when I was a kid, my town had a similar ice cream joint called Kay's that also had a food menu . . . their burgers were out of sight. I'm assuming Braum's burgers would be similar.
A family-owned and operated chain of fast-food restaurants and grocery stores based in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. It currently has locations in Oklahoma and in parts of Texas, Kansas, Arkansas, and Missouri. As of 2007, there were approximately 280 stores in operation. Damn good food.
Thanks for the upload. I used to have the VHS tape with all these commercials on it, but haven't seen it in about 10 years. It's gonna take me a while to watch them tonight, but I'm gonna do it.
@Ofbitterflowers that burger would be about 25 years old now. lol im not sure but i think that resturant is long gone. i dont even know where you can get a steak burger like that today.
See, if you watch some of the commercials we can begin to slowly understand why Vern doesn't like Earnest very much. I'm not sure I like him much after seeing this. I never understood Vern's rudeness as a child. That man ate his Braums. Among other things.
@Corehaven22 that was kinda the point. Vern is supposed to be you. Why we never see his face and see things from his perspective. So Ernest feels more like everybody’s annoying neighbor.
