Thanks for this great, highly descriptive, ride along! Sorry that you and others had to deal with the lack of organization. Stuff happens, but to leave you all high and (literally) dry speaks volumes about the event. That said, what a great place to ride! Good on you for showing that part so exquisitely.
It's a fantastic route and the volunteers themselves were great, I just get freaked out when you don't see a plan in front of you when your next water is going to come...
This actually looks better staffed and stocked than in 2019 when I did this last. The vintage ride version tends to be better stocked (at least in 2018) but I won't attend one of these events again without some improvements. The routes and views are awesome, thanks for the vid.
The lack of water / food was a bummer for sure. I was much slower. But, experienced similar confusion around water / snacks / support. Side note, you should post your strava. Love the videos, keep em coming.
Zack, I admire your restraint. Yes, routes were great. Yes, the volunteers did the absolute best they could with what they had. But I would have to say this was the most poorly organized and overpriced cycling event I have ever done. And I'm speaking specifically about Nova Eroica on Saturday. I don't have a vintage bike so did not participate in Eroica Classic on Sunday.
Can't disagree with you on the organization. One just has to look at the lack on info on their webpage to have an idea. I guess I tempered my comments because some of the people I rode with seemed to overlook these shortcomings and It is an incredible route, but I could not full enjoy it because of the uncertainty. The funny thing I heard about the Sunday ride was that their complaints believed the Saturday riders were getting better treatment. The joke was on both of us!
@@GravelBikeCalifornia Yeah, I caught some of that from the Facebook comments. At the point where the Short and Long Nova Eroica rides split there was only one arrow, pointing to the long course. Me and one other guy with the route loaded into our Karoo 2s stood there and watch cyclist after cyclist peel off in the direction of the long course. Sure hope that was there intent. Have to say that I did throroughly enjoyed myself on the ride itself - beautiful route, great people to talk to. But next time I'd just do a self-supported ride with a group of buddies and save $$$.
