Just went to a 2 day curriculum creation pd and had to start off with this for the 1st half of the day. This put us behind schedule in the work we need to complete. Seriously people we are adults if we have a job to do please just let us get to it. I don’t want to share with you all. I want to do my job and go home to the people who know me, love me, and have to put up with my crazy I don’t need to share it lol.
When I was in admin, I had to attend multiple PD type events and planning, etc. I asked if there could be a break for those of us who find this overwhelming or exhausting or just don’t feel comfortable divulging a lot of information. I was given a flat out “no”. Ugh.
LOL...This right here reminded me of how glad I am I retired! I miss the kids not the BS. PD should be everyone write down something in your classroom that you have been putting off and complete that task. You have 2 hours. Then, come back and share your experience at your table.
Not an introvert but hated all this time wasting stuff. I tended to have to use the rest room during this time! All that coffee, ya’ know. I gave a lot of inservices and my mandated ice breaker was a cartoon on the screen.
Spot on! And in my small town there ain't a dang thing people don't already know about me!!! Please, please, please don't ask me even one more time to share 1 thing people don't know about you with the same faces I have seen for the last 10 years
The next part is when they refer to the staff as a family. I am fully on board with being called a team, and I like my colleagues, but … my job isn’t my family.
I know he was being sarcastic but everyone hates these things. I usually find a way like a long restroom break to get out of them. Although this one is so long I'm not sure I could take long enough! Lol
Love Gerry's sarcasism. There is NO way he did all these things with his staff. He respects them too much to have put them through this. Meant to be "tongue in cheek" I'm guessing.
As the stereotypical snarky, dark high school teacher…can I just clarify: do I gag myself, or do I need to worry about the social politics of my department while choosing a partner who will gag me for our get-to-know-ya activity?
Ice breakers aren’t bad if done correctly. They should relate in some way to the work or what you’re trying to accomplish at the seminar so they have some greater impact and utility.
I hate these time wasting things! I can introduce myself like a professional person to the people seated near me. Do you think that when doctors or lawyers go to professional development they do this kind of thing???
Too many directions makes my head spin.😅 Why is it we have to do PDs that we aren't paid for,and not contracted for? When non-teaching people say we get the whole summer off- it isn't true.
So the name and two adjectives was okay, and then I thought you were going to be like okay peace out and put on some sunglasses and a Lei! Lol. That one’s not too bad. It’s not too invasive. It can be difficult for lower kids. Having a chart (We have an adjectives of personality chart we share with our middle schoolers.) That would be a great accommodation then move on…
Also introductions in online courses! Who cares!? I will never see these people! I don’t want to know them! I do online so I don’t have to deal with people!
