I love the concept of this video. It shows that we never really die and that we have multiple chances to receive the matters of the heart. Energy never dies just transfers. I love you Erykah 1 of my first teachers.
absolutely, I didnt know what it meant to me when I heard it as a teenager back in like 97', but now in 2023 its like a twin flame story. We get to experience each other each lifetime, and together once we fully evolve.
This video hits different When u “ break it down”… thru each phase of her life (where she dies and “reincarnate”) she meets a new man which ends up really being an old man from her past life where she was already a taken woman but they wished she was theirs. Each one ended up getting their chance to experience her during a different time frame of life. Amazing ❤
Never saw this video before loved the song. Never even knew the video existed.. reading what you wrote made me watch the video again just to really pay attention.. and this was in the 90s what a terrific concept and it also made me understand women a lot more.. i just turn 40, and can only imagine the temptation you guys goes through as women.. bc if you do take the connection Society says your a hoe, i bet its pretty hard.. thanks for giving me this POV
@aniyahdapeal5284 Thank you for explaining!! I finally get the video. They’re like 4 men who want her and she gives them each a lifetime. Starting with andre3000 in the motherland. Shes patient and stays true to the man she’s with. But promises the next lifetime to the other man who wants her. Most folks don’t have that discipline and try to ‘divide their pie’ while still with another man… smh Each man is hella fine tho… lol
I usually keep my love for Erykah Badu and true R&B a secret, as I am a normal straight white guy from Midwest Ohio, but as a music artist myself, nothing can compare to her feminine energy and soul in her music, and the industry isn’t worthy of this woman. Will continue to listen forever ❤️
music is one of the few things that expands across cultures and races, I listened to a percussionist at a show talked about he traveled to different countries to learn about different styles and rhythms and they all sounded great
@@escanor113 NO!!!!!!!!!!!? MUSIC IS A REVELATION OF WHO THE PEOPLE REALLY ARE...."THEIR" LIVES...THOUGHTS... EXPRESSION...HOW WE UNIQUELY CREATE. THINK. IT'S EASY. BLACK PPL ARE UNIQUE.
@@malkahavraham876 Calm down with the caps, every culture has their style of music, i.e. unique, listen to china, india, Brazil, even the Scots music, I'm just saying they are all different and they all sound great, if someone prefers one over the other, then so be it edit: and the percussionist that I referenced was an elderly black man that has made albums with other black classical musicians and teaches an university orchestra and even he can acknowledge other types of music that are not black
@@escanor113 Misunderstanding. I was informed that using "caps" means a person is "yelling". Lol! I wasn't. In my day caps meant to "emphasize" a point. I regret out failure to communicate. I had to learn texting etiquette. Smiles! Now, hopefully my real point wasn't lost in translation. I really liked the content.
I love the part when she said u make me feel like a lil bitty girl. Free Feminine Innocence awakening. That's how u know this is a song from the soul. To men who don't know when u get a woman to feel like that it don't mean to treat her like a child. she like this because of our acceptance of u. it mean u touch a spot in her energy that want to receive u. it mean she look up to u. It mean she see a man that will keep her full not deplete her. it means you're that emperor that she can fulfill so both can build. It don't mean she's weak in her mind unless u tricked her with lies to want her weak. other than that she just being divine.
My perception of TF has changed. I don’t think it’s your TF if it’s problematic - TF i think are extremely rare and healing energy, soulmates are common and problematic. This is just my opinion based on experience though
Everyone who looks at me and then looks at my music list is completely thrown off guard. I'm a midwestern White dude and this is the music I love. Erykah, D'Angelo, Maxwell, Barry White, Gideon, James Ingram, Sade, Mya, Keith Sweat, Jhene Aiko, Jon B., SWV, 112, Al Jerreau, Teddy Pendergrass (Teddy P.), Isley Brothers, Stevie Wonder and I can go on. It's so relaxing, therapeutic and makes me feel like my soul is being bathed in celestial waters.
@@cocomaire I’ve experienced this temptation. However, the feelings only intensify if you “feed” them. Ceasing conversations, ceasing being physically around him (if possible), no eye contact, and implementing fervent prayer are definite antidotes to this “horrible” feeling. Most people don’t want to let it go.
@@MonicaMLBH I have a friend who did that, and she still misses him. I think it’s totally natural to feel good when we make a connection with someone. It’s heaven on earth. Giving love makes us happy. I find that talking about the feelings and self awareness helps to get past the infatuation, and you can actually go on to be platonic friends without having to cut off a real connection. You have to forgive yourself for having the feelings or else your mind will punish you. Your mind will feed on fear and guilt will take over and you’ll end up in a hell of your own creation. I’ve had sexual attraction to my man’s cousins, and they all passed in time. It’s not like I could cut them out of our lives. We’re biologically wired for sex. There’s no shame in attraction.
hits when u in a long term relationship n end up meeting someone who you believe is your twin flame.. feels like an instant connection and you have to ignore all the coincidences that brought you together but you don't have the heart to leave your long term partner for them.
26 years ago and seems like yesterday. Next Lifetime, Other Side of the Game, On and On, Tyrone took us to a whole new dimension! Plus her being from Dallas Tx and WE WERE IN DALLAS TX made her get xtra mad Love!!❤️❤️ Dtowns Finest!!
i miss 90's 😢 everything was beautiful in the industry . this music video is just awesome and i love the fact its honoring Africa, the motherland. watching from D.R Congo 🇨🇩
Erykah incorporated so much afrocentric and african culture to the hip hop and neo soul era. I never saw this though lol But me being polyamorous now, my partner is able to date who she loves in this lifetime. I'm not good at knowing who I loved in my past lifetime lol. God Bless You Erykah cause you inspired my journey as a black man. 🙏🏾🖤
when i met my husband a year and 6 months ago, i remember thinking "his eyes, why do they feel so familiar? why does he feel familiar?" I swear i could see everything about him, his life before we met and I knew that we had met before, not sure how many times before but when i mentioned this to my husband, he said he felt the same and then this that made my eyes water, "I told you I'd find you in the next life."
*This was the last song I sung to my one true love, 0twin soul and husband-in-Spirit "Mark" (4/26/1973 - 7/1/03) before he died. I'll NEVER forget it so long as I live, black 84 Cutlass Calais, in the driver's seat, him riding shotgun and me singing "Baduizm" to HIM... This song in particular, with all my mind, heart, body, soul AND Spirit! "First time that I saw you boy it was a warm and sunny day, all I know is I wanted you, I really hoped you'd look my way, then you smiled at me so warm and sweet, I could not speak... Your energy feels so damn good to me, it picks me up, don't wanna come down, you got me spinning all around." Rest in eternal peace in Heaven my life, until we meet and love again, in the afterlife. ❤❤🔥🌹💯*
Erykah Badu is a true Queen with natural beauty. The real essence of music that represent neo soul to the fullest. I am a very happy that I witnessed this era of 90’s R&B music. Thank you my soul sista for bringing us true talent to the music industry. A pure Goddess in a class of her own.
Ya know alot of people who comment on YT describe themselves im this or that but yeahh im a 45 yr old white male tattooed metal head and ive been listening to Miss Badu since the 90s and her music just hits my soul mannn, she is an amazing artist and person all around....one of the best humankind has produced.
That's really cool man. I am about 29 going on 30. My mom used to play this song so much when I was young. I also love when other people enjoy multiple genres of music. I just really love music. Rock, metal, rock and roll, alternative, r&b, neo soul, and man many more. :)
I first heard this song when I was married. Now I'm divorced after my wife chose someone she preferred, and I can't hear this song without crying my eyes out.
BE STRONG MY FRIEND, YOUR DAY WILL COME, BUT IN THE MEAN WHILE, IF THERES SOMETHING THAT YOU WANT, BUT CANNOT HAVE , HAVE COMTEMPT FOR IT, ITS THE BEST REVENGE...
I fell in love with this song when it first came out, but I was too young to understand the visual. But watching as an adult and going through life experiences, I now understand and I love it even more 🙏🏾
MY GAWD! Thank you Badu 😭 this was deeeeep! I’m love your spirit! Her mind definitely reminds me of myself! Everything was so energetically beautiful and symbolic. Thats what you call a visual of art. Afrocentric. Black power. Futuristic and ancestral all in one!
"Next lifetime" [Chorus] Now what am I supposed to do When I want you in my world How can I want you for myself When I'm already someone's girl? Now what am I supposed to do When I want you in my world How can I want you for myself When I'm already someone's girl? [Verse 1] First time that I saw you boy It was a warm and sunny day All I know is I wanted you I really hoped you looked my way When you smiled at me, so warm and sweet I could not stay You make me feel like a lil bitty girl What do you do to me? [Chorus] Now what am I supposed to do When I want you in my world How can I want you for myself When I'm already someone's girl? Now what am I supposed to do When I want you in my world How can I want you for myself When I'm already someone's girl? I guess I'll see you next lifetime No hard feelings I guess I'll see you next lifetime I'm gonna be there [Verse 2] Your energy feels so damn good to me It picks me up don't wanna come down You got me spinning all around You need to know I've got somebody You're beautiful But still, it ain't that type of party now [Chorus] Now what am I supposed to do When I want you in my world How can I want you for myself When I'm already someone's girl? Now what am I supposed to do When I want you in my world How can I want you for myself When I'm already someone's girl? (Well I guess I'll see you next lifetime) Maybe we'll be butterflies (I guess I'll see you next lifetime) That sounds so divine (I guess I'll see you next lifetime) I guess I will now (I guess I'll see you next lifetime) Wait, wait a little while [Verse 3] See, it ain't nothing wrong with dreaming Boy, don't get me wrong 'Cause every time I see you It lets me know just how strong (every single time) That my love is for my baby But emotions just don't lie Well I know I'm a lotta woman But not enough to divide the pie [Chorus] Now what am I supposed to do When I want you in my world How can I want you for myself When I'm already someone's girl? Now what am I supposed to do When I want you in my world How can I want you for myself When I'm already someone's girl? (I guess I'll see you next lifetime) You know I want to stay around (I guess I'll see you next lifetime) I'm so confused now [Chorus] Now what am I supposed to do When I want you in my world How can I want you for myself When I'm already someone's girl? Now what am I supposed to do When I want you in my world How can I want you for myself When I'm already someone's girl? (I guess I'll see you next lifetime) Already, I'm going to be there I guess I'll see you next lifetime (I'm going to look for you) [Chorus] Now what am I supposed to do When I want you in my world How can I want you for myself When I'm already someone's girl? Now what am I supposed to do When I want you in my world How can I want you for myself When I'm already someone's girl? I guess I'll see you next lifetime Oh, oh baby I'm gonna be there I'm gonna be there...
Thank you Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, Anthony Hamilton and all of you girls and guys who brought some GOOD MUSIC to my ears when my life wasn't very joyful 🥰
This song makes me cry because the universe deemed it fit for the first woman i ever loved and adored and truly wanted to be with in this lifetime and the afterlife be with someone else. The UNIVERSE is sometimes cruel and mysterious i was raised to never question the 1 ABOVE ALL so now i live in silent sorrow.
This brought me back to being born in the 90’s hear this woman’s beautiful voice to being a adult still hearing her voice like a fine glass of wine!!!!! She is still as beautiful as every.
She's just a goddesses! So God damn beautiful. As a woman with an open mind to music and the world....I can recognize beauty. My father introduced me to her when I was a kid and immediately loved her.
Aww your dad has amazing taste in music I was 17 when this album came out and omg she changed music so much! This song has always got me in my feelings… especially when it’s true 😭😭😭😭😭
Seeing 3 Stacks in this video and in her video “Other side of the game” Both showing before then after their Son was born, I wish her and Andre 3000 were still together 😩 Their relationship itself was mind blowing. Two TRUE Artist, Poets, Storytellers 🔥 Give is a biopic on Andre & Erykah relationship would be amazing 🎥
Deep message in there, the return to Africa, itt began with Africa and it ended with Africa. Pan Africanism has always been a subliminal center of her music.
I absolutely loved this video as a teen. I would watch it each time I could catch it. It's crazy as an adult in my late 30s, I still come back and watch it over and over as if I have never seen it. The song is beautiful and so is the video. I really miss watching videos like this.
This video finally on here. 25 years later the debut album Baduizm is still unmeasured, culturally relevant, and one of the best 90's R&B albums of our time.
