Man I really wish there was some type of documentary on just Erykah & Andre’s relationship at this time in ‘97.. Like I can feel their energy through the screen. This is like the most authentic aesthetic I’ve ever seen.
This song was my life at the time it came out. I was married to a good guy deep in the streets!!!! I tried and tried to get him to leave that life alone. I had money, diamonds, and cars but was living in a constant state of worry!!!! But I loved him strong!!!! Thank God for growth. Although we eventually divorced he managed to turn his life around for the sake of our baby girl!!! Thank you Erykah for singing me through one of the roughest times in life!!!
Well done for staying strong throughout all the challenges that you were presented. Good on you baby girl! Much kudos and respect to you honey. Keep doing what you are doing. Peace out to you Princess.❤❤
@@Stop_57followingme hilarious your name is badbaby1987 im def the baby girl in that story all grown up and my parents stayed together and will be having a 35 wedding anniversary next june ! less things but a much more peaceful life from my early childhood memories
This woman understood the struggle. Never changed on her people. Made music for us. Then our people called her crazy cause they didn't understand "themselves", Yet she never turned her back to us. I love this melanin enriched goddess.
Yes 🥰 it's not often that are women show's the beauty of just being the black goddist They truly our. So how are you to find the King in yourself.with a white washed woman. We are King 👑 not queens.just keeping it 💯 Love you all, Sisters and Brothers.
Erykah is such an underrated natural beauty in the mainstream. She makes it so fashionable to have full lips and afro texture hair. Am proud to have such features.
What I absolutely adore about this is how the most mundane things are elevated and we are invited to glimpse at life's simple yet beautiful moments like her wiping her face, a random kiss here, Andre opening the windows, her cutting a grapefruit/orange, Andre accidentally leaving the tap open 3:22 and so on. There is no studio budget that can buy that level of genius.
Not many notice this mv was shot in ONE take simply because the genius direction and movement of both the camera and artists. Just beautifully and intelligently executed not to mention a masterpiece of a song and message
@@JustaN00bi3 WELL I'M AN OLD DUDE NOW,SO I GOTTA SAY THE 70'S FIRST FOR ME,THEN THEN THE 80'S AND THEN THE 90'S IN THAT ORDER,BUT I RESPECT YOUR OPINION AND HAPPY NEW YEAR.
+NemRaps So cozy and comfortable...I see myself floating along the California coast at midnight in a 69 drop top corvette...It's cold out...but this beat keeps me warm.
My mom used to play the live version of this album every Saturday while we were cleaning the house and now I do the same. Baduizm live is my favorite albums.
Marvin Paul right!! I caught the Lauren & 3000 look at the end. Just a quick question, who do u think influenced who 3000 influenced her or vice versa? Maybe their style was the same before knowing of each other, either way I think it’s dope. I just find things like that interesting, for instance, my gf was nvr into tennis shoes but after being w/ me for so long she kinda goes for the same look as me. She’s from outside of the city too so now the slang we use, she has picked up on from hearing me so much. To me, she’s a great budgeter & that’s the main thing I follow😂 Long story, less long i find it interesting how we imitate those we are around. Especially those we love & admire. An interesting tid bid to my question, I heard she had a few artist “whipped” & I wanna figure out the lore to her attraction. Besides looking like today’s cleopatra
@@dorenjackson1166 in one of the outkast songs, Andre says he saw a singer on stage with dreads similar to his. So lol they just so happened to meet each other with this hair style
Our people are beautiful beyond measure! We come in all variations! I want all my SIStars to know, your Afro defies gravity. There is no other race that carries 9ether. Think of the image you are creating for your daughter, burning your hair on a daily basis, chemically processing and attaching hair that does not resemble your hair. I know many insecure girls and women. I was one of many. However, today 25/01/2020 I can say... l am a proud African Wombman, authentically ME! Self-Love is where I AM @. My town is Happiness. ~ I AM Beloved Positive-One
THANK YOU!!! I'm so sick of these complaining about my Erykah, they say they would like it if they wanted to sleep. Me, Erykah Badu gets my day started on a good note so take y' all asses to sleep then......
I just came home after 9+ years in VA.'s prison system & any one who knows me can tell you this song carried me throughout my bid. Now that I'm finally free, I'm seeing the"Other Side Of The Game" fa' real... to all those still in "the life", take time to realize & treasure your freedom & all that comes with it- your family & your loved ones especially
When she first appears in the video, she is so stunning and in the end when she takes off her scarf and lets her hair out you just ask yourself why is this lady so gorgeous .
*It has been an eclipse. Yet the pleasure is all mines.* *Somehow your words are spiritually impactful in this season likewise as they were many many moons 🌟🌙 ago.*
Maaaaaaaaan, my mom used to play the shit out of this album when I was a kid. I remember her playing it all the time when we lived in Chicago during car rides. I've been a Badu fan every since then.
You gotta try listening to the slowed reverb version of this......wow it's is a WHOLE other level, jesus.....look for the video with a cube candle, a plant and a black background....that one ❤️🤌🏾🤌🏾
I don’t know if anyone else can hear or feel this, but Badu was playing with frequencies in this track. I kept feeling deep relaxation in my neck and shoulders throughout.
Witchcraft, her music puts people under a spell. Andre 3000, her baby daddy, and the guy in the video once said "I met a gypsy", he was talking about her.
_itsMyesha__ YES WE DO. BUT IT SEEMS LIKE THE BROTHERS TODAY IS NOT ON THAT PAGE WITH US. HOW CAN WE MAKE THEM KNOW THAT GOD CREATED US TO MATE UP. THEIR HEAD IS SOMEPLACE ELSE. THEY CANT RELATE TO WHAT WE NEED THEM TO DO. THEY MAKE IT SO HARD FOR US. STILL SINGLE AND FROM THE LOOKS OF THINGS, I'LL REMAIN. KNOWLEDGE IS POWER.
In 1997 I was 9, I remember watching this with my cousins, loving the vibe. But now 34, I have a new appreciation, noticing things I never realized before. The sonogram from their baby 😍❤❤
Call me strange but I only came here to hear her sing this verse: ♫ He gave me the life that I came to live. He gave me the song that I came to give. Pressure's on me but the seed has grown. I can't make it on my own. Summer came around and the flowers bloomed. He became the sun I became the moon. Precious gifts that we both received Or could this be make believe♫
Awesome bridge..Love that part too. As a side note, that apartment gives me so many ideas. Reminds me of my old bklyn digs, of course not that big! And it was my painted Red, black, green, (how my husband and I met). Just the creative touches everywhere.
One of the best videos EVER made depicting real love, and a peaceful, playful, nurturing home between a black man and woman. Friendship, synergy and commitment all in one!!! CLASSIC!!!!! I still just LOVE IT!!!!!!!💯😊😊😊
I'm 29 caught up in the streets, got a BEAUTIFUL woman & children who love me dearly and I swear this song just brought tears to my eyes because I know the risks and so want to get out of the game. The hustle gives us all a life we never had though so it's hard to leave but I know it's the right thing to do 😔 hopefully I do before it's too late 🙏🏾💫✨
If you are referring to the video, it's not really beautiful and simple. The lyrics are "what we gonna do when they come for you (the cops)" so they can't really sustain that lifestyle which I assume is from illegal gains. It's the other side of "The game." Looks like their life is nice but there's no security or peace of mind because the cops can show up any time.
Righttt but we ain't doin that no mo tho...atleast not on no dope boy shii we too grown with children and too much to lose ijs 😂 If he don't mind puttin me and my children in danger I don't mind letting him go cause I lost one to the streets and it ain't cute no mo when it hit close to home 💯
@@PatinaEdochie Yes...most of the women (like myself) went on to receive higher education (Bachelor’s, Master’s, Doctorate’s) and as far as those dope boys...they are either dead, in prison, OR completely reformed and living honest lives becoming active and productive members of society.
I come here every once in a while to wonder what on Earth happened to my culture? I was in college when this album hit. I thought the black community was in a Renaissance, we were seeing ourselves like THIS. It was beautiful. Thank you.
I love how all of her videos start with "A story by Erykah Badu", it's almost as if She let's us into her mind for the duration of the video, cause this is what she's imagining with this song. 👌🏻
She contradicts herself throughout this song. She likes the money and the lifestyle, but doesn't like how he gets it. She's saying the ends justify the means, but she's still criticizing the means. You gotta pick a side. Can't straddle the fence. That's why women are full of it. If he had a good, honest job, but stayed broke, she'd have a problem. Here he has a dangerous, illegal job, but the chips are stacking and she still has a problem. Foh.
Literally my favorite Erykah Badu song of all-time. I love how she conveys her relationship with Andre 3000 in this video. And to see her pregnant with their son, Seven. This was Literally the best pregnancy announcement
One of the most beautiful realest Afrocentric couple in hip hop/black culture, periodt. I thank God that my parents exposed me to the true meaning of love and music at that time. Good times ❤️✊🏾
It’s really insane just how much better music was in the nineties!!!! My lord I am so thankful to have lived my twenties during this era, Its allowed me to appreciate it even more now in my late forties!
As you get older you lose the drive and focus to continually search for new music that suits you. It's plainly as simple as that. There is great music being made today. Go look for it.
The best 💯🙌🏿✊🏿it took me 21 years to see the end of the whole video. My mom was so excited about the dreads at the end. Never seen since 98” 💁🏾♀️that was Dope!!! Wow... I would of be on another level 🙌🏿✊🏿👑
She tore the house down in Philly. She tested her microphone levels and sung it with the band. This lady is better than 90% of the artists out and I've heard and see a lot.
