Erythropoiesis (Red Blood Cell Formation)

Kidneys stimulate erythropoiesis by releasing erythropoietin (EPO). Low blood volume and the hormone thyroxine stimulates the kidney to release EPO. The bone marrow responds to EPO and produces more red blood cells.

Question. Did I understand correctly… so a DECREASE in blood volume= an INCREASE in EPO secretion and a DECREASE in O2 in blood= an INCREASE in EPO secretion ?

+susannaheinze , Thanks for another excellent video lecture, but starting @ 3:01 you mentioned that thyroxine cause cells produce more ATP (to produce more erythropoietin), did you really mean tri-iodothyronine (T3) and not thyroxine (T4), because as far as I understand it, thyroxine (T4), has to be converted to converted to tri-iodothyronine (T3) before it can affect cells to produce ATP. Or is there something that I've missed? If so, then could please explain how thyroxine directly causes the production ATP in the cells? Thanks in advance.

Do you have any sources for this?
@Dazzletoad
@Dazzletoad 5 лет назад
Madam, may I request your source material? You mentioned nothing of REPOS cells or their location. I am interested in the site of synthesis of erythropoietin a little more specific than 'in the kidney.' Some of your information seemed a little suspect - such as the low blood volume trigger for erythropoiesis. I'm not suggesting that it's wrong as I am just new to renal anatomy and physiology but it doesn't sound right. I would really appreciate a link to your source material so I can read further into it. Thanks in advance ☺
