I watched the whole interview with Dr. Ashagre and was enlightened by his immense knowledge of Ethiopian past and current economic and political affairs. There is no question that a chance for peace was lost much earlier back then because of the strong man’s unbending murderous and vindictive nature which spoiled the opportunity at hand. Thank you Dr Ashagre for your service to your country and for sharing with us your recollections for future generations. I found you to be the most believable and the most straightforward of all the derge era officials I’ve heard so far and I will be interested in reading your book when it comes out hopefully we will learn more details in greater length. As always thank you Sisaye for your professional service to your country in helping to document history and thank you ESAT.

I had a picture with Dr Ashagre when I was 8 yrs old but he is completely changed. I was too young probably. May be my image of was not right👦🏽. Anyways, am happy to see him. I liked the way he described Mengistu & his die hardness & how he approached the peace negotiating processed & how TPLF political leaders were shrewed. He didn't cast a blame on his commrades for the damages they caused during his term. Rather, he took the responsibility & asked for forgiveness the people he once served as dupty pm. I would expect the same from EPRDF political elites like our beloved PM Abiy did. I expect more from him in the future.. bravo Dr.

What is the most astonishing thing I observe here is that, people who haven't 1/10 knowledge of the subject area, or life experience or professional expertise or accadamic credential in comparison with Dr Ashagra , they have the audacity to criticise and /or correct him (Dr. Ashagra) in their comments. That is very very astonishing indeed. Please before commenting such kind you should know ......! Cos it doesn't help anyone including yourself. A very good saying in Amharic is: " Sew afun sekefet chenkelatu yetayal"

I found it very important and historical interview that the new Generation of Ethiopia helps to know the historical events of Dergue regime.

Sisay, as much as I opposed to the father of Zenaw (Mengistu), I like this guy. He has what I call clear concept (CC) about our circumstances. We cannot single out Abay Tsehai and try him for the grand theft he committed. TPLF as its core principle promomoted theft and placed its members strategically to suit this. Hence, TPLF is protecting its members from facing justice. " Our" foreign debt grace period has expired and now we have to pay our debtors back with interest. That is one of the reasons for TPLF to recoil back to Tigrai. Divide and rule tactics of TPLF, worst than the Italians. To put it shortly, Prof. Ashagre, you have my admiration and respect. Thank you East!

Born and grow up in “ derg “ time . some people adore Mengestu some ... they hate him for the first time I found out how Mengestu cold hearted , monster , inhuman ......... is one day he will pay for it.

This is a guy who has got Ba,Ma and Phd in Bulgaria in a period 5 years with the socialist government scholarship, as you compare his knowledge with a four years Ba or Bsc regular four years degree,not forgetting that the the first year in Bulgaria or any socialist county scholarships is a language school.This guy is lucky to work in US university and call himself a professor.well I checked the southern university and they don’t have economics department and they have a combined finance and economics department which gives introductory classes for students with other major.And he didn’t do anything to his own country but he said he helped Uganda and other African countries but I doubt it .

This last part of the interview is more interesting and I highly applaud it. But sometimes remarks made which alludes extolling the butcher the Hitler of Ethiopia is totally unacceptable!!This must be corrected!! However the last part which discusses the line of action which shall be taken on the pile of debt the Country has amass because of the looting of TPLF occupying force shall be followed in detail. Task force shall be created to deal with this!! Loan payment schedule differing,right off etc etc.First let's know clearly how the looting has been conducted who is who in these actions etc..

No leader in the history of Ethiopia has been seen like Abiy . Period. Never ever will be created a unique leader Like Our beloved PM Dr Abiy on the land of Ethiopia. Lucky we are to have him

መንግሥቱ ዱሪዬ ነዉ ፣ሁልሸን አታለለ። የተማረ ጨረሰ። ለፍርድ ይቅረብ።

ዶክተሩ በተቻላቸው ሁሉ እራሳቸውን ከደሙ ንጽሕ ነኝ አይነት መግለጫ በመስጠታቸው ከልብ አዝኛለሁ። ሰው ማለት ጊዜ ሲፈቅድለት ለእውነትና እውነትን በመናገር ለትውልድ የሚተርፍ የታሪክ አደራ የሚያስቀምጥ ነው። ዶክተሩ ግን በጣም በተለሳለሰ አገላለጥ እውነትን በገሀድ የደበቁበት ኑዛዜ አስደምጥውናል። ምክንያቱም ዶክተሩ እንደ ደርግ የደርጉ አባል፡ ከዚያም በላይ ደሞ በምክትል ጠቅላይ ሚኒስትር ደረጃ የሀገሪቱ ሁለተኛ ወሳኝ ሰውም ነበሩ፡ ታዲያ በምን መንገድ ነው? እኔ አላውቅም የለሁበትም፡ በሚል ዳግማዊ ክህደት ባደባባይ ልክ እንደ መንገደኛ ባጋጣሚ የሰሙት አስመስለው የሚነግሩን። ባጠቃላይ ትኩረታቸው //የወደቀ ዛፍ ምሣር ይበዛበታል እንዲሉ// ያለየሌለ ኃጢአቱን መንግሥቱ ላይ ደፍድፈው፡ በይቅርታና ዶክተር ዓቢይን በማዳነቅ ወደ ሀገራቸው የሚገቡበትን ሁኔታ በማመቻቸት ላይ ብቻ ያነጣጠረ ኑዛዜ እንጂ እውነተኛ ሂደቱን እንደነገሩን አይሰማኝም። መቼ ነው ታዲያ እውነት የሚናገሩ ሰዎች የምናገኘው????
