Unbelievably, this song is 50 years old. Yes, 50! It held up amazingly well. I only heard this song for the first time a few months ago. But it doesn't sound dated to me. And I remember the music of 1970. Few songs from that year still sound as good and as timeless as this song does.

Dana is from the island of Ireland with no connections to the U.K. other than she was born in the part of Ireland robbed by the British. She is Irish out and out. Johnny Logan is an Australian born Irish singer. I guess Freddie Mercury was also Tanzanian then and shouldn't be referred to as British.
This song is way older than I am, and still I love it! Might well be one of my favorite winners in the years prior to my birth (which was 1975... Yes the last Dutch victory until Duncan won, and I'm also Dutch... Coincidence?)

A song like this couldn't stand a chance in Eurovision 2021. It's pure. It's wholesome. It's highly melodic and beautifully sung. Far too good for the crap that passes for music these days! One of my all time favourite songs.

I remember my 14 year old sister demanding that my Dad buy our first TV just before the eurovision in 1970 because she was sure Dana would win and did not want to be humiliated again that year by asking to watch the eurovision at the neighbours house. So at about 6pm on the Saturday of the eurovision the TV guy arrived with a black and white PYE tv and began installing it. There was a lot of banging going on in the attic as he installed the aerial and eventually got it going by about 7pm. The eurovision was to begin at 8pm so just in time. My Dad said if Dana did not win the TV was going straight back to the shop on the following Monday. So I was pulling my hair out during the voting as a Dana loss meant no more tv for us. Luckily Dana did win so we got to keep the tv which was good because I was as dumb as a rock about the outside world until that TV educated me. £80 it cost and we paid by installments - took two years to pay it off. Then we rented TV's after that one broke down for good but that PYE lasted about 10 years.

Know where it would have been perfect to place this song? In "The Sound of Music." Liesel could have sung this to Rolf instead of that mediocre "I am sixteen going on seventeen" song. How many people here agree with me?

Finally an Eurovision song that is calming rather than creepy and with a beautiful young lady as the singer, rather than pink wearing middle aged women... Yeah this is my jam. Or it seems like that to me right now, all those previous ones might be mixing up my judgrement skills.

Anyway, I like interesting songs where the lyrics are hearable, the voice of the singer is nice, and preferably, if it is a video, the singer not ugly. This fits all the basic requirements, but this song is too wholesome and because of its age the sound is fucked up so hard to listen to when you raise the volume. If I had to give an example that is similar to this that I like I would say anything from Miracle of Sound, The Ballad of Barry Allen, Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life, The Cost Of The Crown, or King Of Anything. All of these are songs I really like. By the way I dont fully remember this song, I hadn't listened to it again(just played parts of it to try to remember), and it's been about two years since I wrote the first comment, and another since I replied to someone.

All a bit too sickly sweet by today's standards but back then when I was 11 it was perfect for that innocent age in Ireland and elsewhere. Pity Dana turned into a religious freak and zealot later which ruined her brief political career.
