Dear Mike Gaines, I am one of the many fans screaming and cheering while witnessing this live! It is the year your name became a legend! The pace, the drill, the performance always amazed me. I never saw that blonde drop that saber during her "turn" feature! Nailed it every time! Everyone is having so much fun! Thank you for posting this wonderful memory! From a fan you've never met.
Same! My high school was performing in WGI that year (I believe it was in Dayton) and they were selling VHS recordings of this performance. I still have it. :)
The "tournament, tournament, tournament of lies" catch (ToURNament catch!) made me cheer at my computer, this performance has me crying -- it's exhilarating and so beautiful what people are capable of!
Mike, You don’t know me! Bob Nicholson was a part of my gay bear family! He showed me this show long ago! I don’t do Colorguard. He did! 37 years, he did! I wouldn’t know this music if Bob hadn’t shown me this show! Bob died in September of 2020! They have this canned music at work! Every once in awhile, The End of the World as we know It comes on, and I’m taken back to this show... and my memory of Bob Nicholson. I was a big fan of Escapade! Bob showed me what to look for: Timing Angles Form Ensemble General Effect! I heard this song yesterday at work, and I can’t cry there! For lunch, today, I turned this on and cried! It is the end of the world as I know it! No more local shows with Bob! His HS band was 2nd at Bands of America Grand Nationals in their class.. 2019! He finally reached the national stage! I was so proud of him! He helped me create the Bear Pride flag in 1995 because he sewed all his flags at home! Mike Gaines, you were Bob’s hero! Thank you for your talent! Your skill always brought me joy, and I know Bob learned a lot watching Escapade perform and grow!
Hands down the BEST guard performance! As a freshman this year, I was shocked at how amazing guards could be at this level. Sitting in the audience watching Escapade with the crowd going nuts...never a more thrilling moment at WGI (even when we medaled in '94)!!! Thank you for posting this video :)
