You're a really patient dad. Good for you! Good video, too. I don't normally play escape room games, but I might try a couple based on your suggestions.
Video was a 9/10 until the visitor came along. immediate elevated it to a 15/10. Really enjoy the no-cut policy on your videos, just adds something to the videos that few other channels have. Keep up the awesome work Alex
I only played Unlock! and Exit games, and I completely agree with you. Exit gives you more flexibility, but the fact that the game is destroyed is a bummer. The Unlock app is a really cool element in the game to make that makes it more immersive. Also, awesome guest appearance 😊
Been getting more and more into this type of games so you putting out this video was perfect timing! Thank you for all your thoughts on these, it was very informative to listen to!
I much prefer the escape room style of games, but the best mystery style game I've played is Chronicle's of Crime. However, it's VERY app heavy. I'm also looking forward to trying the Detective game and it's expansions.
I love the escape-room board games ( I am biased). I wrote some papers on how they can be used in a classroom. Therefore, Unlock! is a unique series (I own almost all the scenarios). However, I strongly recommend playing Mystery Agency's scenarios and Escape the Room by Think Fun.
Alex, you didn't turn the light on. That's your fault. :) Your kids are so good, but rules and procedures don't work if dad doesn't follow his own rules and procedures.
Great review of some popular games in the genre. I would recommend the Holiday Hijinks Series if you like deck based escape room games. Keep up the great content
Have you tried Awkward Guests? It is like the game CLUE but with a card system (kind of like Sherlock Files) ... it has a fantastic system that gives you 243 cards that can comprise over 3 thousand cases! It includes a wonderful sheet to track the clues you uncover! Highly recommended.
Sorry my attention wandered near the end there - distracted by the adorable assistant.😂 unlock is by far our favourite too. They make such clever use of all the tech in modern phones to keep each one fresh and the puzzle quality is consistently good. With exit we’ve got stuck before and even after looking up a solution wondered how we were supposed to figure out the puzzle, which made for a frustrating experience.
I align with your favorite being unlock, but for a different reason. In unlock the puzzles are tied to what you're doing, it makes sense in the theme and story,.so it feels more like a point and click adventure. Where as with the Exit games, I always feel a huge disconnect. It's like for example you're in a temple, trying to open a chest, and the game will be like "ok, to open the chest, here's a completely unrelated colour puzzle to solve!". Maybe better puzzels, but way less thematic, and that's a big deal for me. Oh and awesome cameo :)
I wish Chronicles of Crime was included. It has app integration like Unlock and is basically just cards and a few boards. The cases are a lot of fun and they are vastly different. It does rely on the app heavily but I find my group spends more time discussing and manipulating the cards than they do on the app.
