Alastair is so laid back regardless of the client's attitudes. Nice that this loving couple were so open and unassuming. Best of luck to them.

How nice to have a ground floor room for a guest bedroom for now and for this couple in the future as they age. Once young men go off to college they really don't come home for long periods of time. It always amazes me when people talk about "small" bedrooms....you only sleep in there anyway and don't need that much space really. The young people leave for their first jobs and leaving mom and dad with four bedrooms to heat, cool and clean.

A budget is a budget I suppose. Good for them for realising they shouldn't take on extra debt. Even though the house was, as you say, perfect.

@@KathysFlog Try 30 mins in Alaska. 30 mins is 30 mins no matter what the road conditions (and they can vary with the weather) and is not that far at all. I wonder about this young guy's ability to be independent if he can't be more than 30 minutes away from home when he is at college.
@carolinewiggins2803
@carolinewiggins2803 8 месяцев назад
@@susanharris5926In England college means a sixth form college, not university. He's still a minor. At university of course he'll be independent. In my day most of us chose universities a long way from home. It was all part of the university experience.
@susanharris5926

@@carolinewiggins2803 Well things have changed I guess since I lived in England. I am English by the way. 6th form was a continuation of grammar school and, yes, you were still at home. However, there used to be colleges after the 6th, for teacher training for example distinct from university. Nevertheless, I used to travel at least 20 minutes on the bus to get to school when in the 6th and I don't see how this could be a big deal for him. 30 minutes commute is nothing.

13 miles from town, at 60mph for part of the drive is a 15-30 minute drive. Even if they don't own a car it's still a 30 minute train ride, hour and a half total commute, give or take. Super do-able, not sure why they considered it too far. I live 15 minutes away from the grocery store ffs.

@@carolinewiggins2803 Ah. Gotcha. I have frequently noticed an interesting economy of scale on this show. Sometimes an amazing, box-ticking house will be vetoed because it's 30 minutes from other family, and that's too far. Other times someone working in London will look up to *an hour and a half* commute. Even in the US, where things are typically more spread out, that would be considered extreme.
@carolinewiggins2803
@carolinewiggins2803 8 месяцев назад
@@kentlatimer3706 I suppose it all depends on the person in the end as to what is considered an acceptable commute. There's no railway station in Porkellis, so if his parents don't give him a lift to the nearest station he would have to catch a bus and goodness knows how regular they would be in a rural location like that. Plus he's a teenager and getting up very early probably wouldn't be a vote winner! As for me, I'm 61 and only started commuting in my late fifties here in Japan. I'm living my life backwards in so many ways😀I catch a bus which takes half an hour to the station, catch a train for 20 minutes and then walk about 15 minutes. Coming back takes longer because the buses are an hour or more apart. But I love it. I have the added bonus of seeing an osprey once or twice a day for half the year as we rattle over the river. Everyone else has their heads in their smartphones, plus not many people are interested in birds here, so it's my own personal, much-awaited highlight of the commute!❤. Happy New Year to you in Canada!🎉

Tobacco, rum and lace from the Continent? Didn't the lace come from Ireland (not all of it), and tobacco from the US colonies, and the rum from the Caribbean? Am I getting that right? Or were they all shipped to the Continent and then sold north to the UK?
