The very first release of Kerbal Space Program in 2011 is missing a lot of features and building a rocket to reach Escape velocity is a serious challenge. So I tried this live on Twitch.tv last night.
Fun fact: The Mk16 parachute and fixed stabilizers are the only parts in KSP that have not changed at all throughout the entire development of the game since the first playable release.
5destroyer35 I wouldn't mind a bit more "cartoony" look for the game overall, now it's just a bit.. dull. Also it's a bit strange mix where most of the parts look really sleek and realistic and the vehicles are operated by these little green cartoon characters :D
Camicus - Yeah! At least near the deserts and such. They could make them climbable, add coconuts, and pina coladas, and add a tropical resort for jebediah to enjoy said drinks. He deserves it.
This has been one of the weirdest and scariest days of my life--I can't get into details now but my grandkids will get to hear a heck of a story--and hearing you sing an impromptu made-up song about the ocean under Kerbin's mountains really helped to make things better. I'm grateful I got to giggle myself silly. Thanks, Scott.
Inspired by this video, I just retried the first version I have on my pc- 0.8 x4 and it's amazing how much stuff I take for granted is missing. No time acceleration, no EVA/IVA, no RCS, no struts, no map, edge of atmo at 30k, no music, to say nothing of the Mun or other planets. My God, how far KSP has come.
I am glad people saw its potential and stuck with it in =) KSP my all round favorite game when I factor in fun, educational value and community. I am glad the devs and users gave it a chance.
when you do these things it looks so easy, yet when i try to fly I start to lose kerbins :D still, your guides and videos are awesome! thanks to you I actualy found out about KSP, and im having alot of fun :D keep up the good work :)
I kinda like the colours and swampiness of early kerbin. I kind of want kerbin to be retextured and remodelled to resemble it, at least in some biomes, because kerbals look like they crawled out of swamps and started rocket science
Wow. This predates even when I started playing, as I got into KSP in (I believe) 0.8.5. I wasn't aware it was even possible to find these old releases.
Yonkage Not sure it's possible at all to be honest, I think Scott's been keeping a copy of every version before updates... well maybe not every version, but he has back-ups of at least a few; hence how he continued Interstellar quest after the updates broke the mods again for example
But, about the EMDrive, Harold White did experiment with EmDrive, although not in a vaccum, and discovered variation in travel time of light through the chamber; he has considered the possibility that it is from heating from the air, but he also said the predicted effect from the air is MUCH Smaller than the effect they had observed.. So, no.. personally I don't think it is very likely to be case A either...
This is like a primordial space program! But I actually like the look of the KSC peninsula in this, the current one looks like a giant unnatural rectangle sticking into the ocean.
Jacob Furrow Primordial Space Program: Taking the cell you finish with in the first stage of SPORE all the way through to space stage with no alterations >.>
The old fuel tanks remind me of sonic adventure 1, the grey stripe with the yellow/black hazzard stripe. Both speed highway, and eggmans stuff in the last sonic level, I cant be the only one who sees it lol.
i remember playing this, i ended up breaking the physics and building a rocket that sped up after flying for an hour with only the capsule left going up
Pumpkin Pie Because you would get stuck on the tower if you built a rocket that was too wide. No fun. Not sure about the marsh, I'd forgotten it was ever there...
Pumpkin Pie You could never build a big ass rocket facility on top of ground that is flooded and sinking. Though it would be nice if they added it as a small biome somewhere.
After the changes to aerodynamics and stuff, i actually wish they would increase the heights of the layers of kerbins atmosphere. It seems way to fast and easy now to escape. Bumping the orbit height op to something like 200.000 meters would be perfect i think.
RMJ1984 The IRL Earth atmosphere is in most cases considered to be ~70k - 100 k, so Kerbin's atmosphere is not to scale with Kerbin. A to-scale atmosphere would only be about 9.5 km thick.
We've certainly a very long way, except for the loss of those swamps. I'm also wondering what's going to happen now that you achieved a feat that the devs thought was impossible for this version (no surprise there). Is there travelable space outside Kerbin?
He says in the vid that the Mun, Minmus, etc, don't exist. He also said that the sun is painted on the skybox and if you go too far from Kerbin it vanishes, leaving you in the inky void.
You mention in the video that Interstellar has not been updated. I don't think it is going to be updated, however "KSP Interstellar Extended" is a fork of the code that is being actively maintained. It is available on CKAN for 1.0.2
Scott Chamberlain Oh, and speaking of CKAN as of the 1.6.17 update they basically added a "Modpack" feature. Go to "File->Export Installed Mods" then other users can load the .ckan file it generates and get the exact same mods installed. This would be really nice if you did that then posted the ckan file in the description of the video for any new series you do, it would make it a lot easier for fans to play along with the same mods. If you make any configuration changes you can could also distribute a Module Manager config file that does all your changes in a ":Final" block.
To be fair, the EM Drive has had a second completely independent test performed by NASA...and in a complete vacuum to boot. No thermal convection possible in a vacuum, and considering they set the test up independently it's unlikely a different tester would make the same mistakes in testing the first group did.
+Skywise SF There's still the possibility that as the microwaves bounce around the cavity, they warm up the metal at the bottom of the frustum (where the drive touches the scale), and the thermal expansion of the metal changes the amount of force being registered. If the EM effect is an experimental error, this is probably where it's coming from.
