Woohoo! This is not my original finding. Leaving Willard alive has been suggested and mentioned by countless people. I've never seen a video of it on RU-vid, so I thought I'd find out for myself how much is true, and post a video!
He wanted to accelerate his genetic evolution, as I recall. I wonder if he was disappointed with what he got. Well perhaps he got a magnificent intellect to keep him entertained
Well 9 years later... you should get some kind of platinum.... tomb raider remastered that have premiere in 10 days have possibility to get platinum if u complete this almost impossible challenge...😅
Seems funny that she's got all the weapon arsenal in the world up to a rocket launcher, and some serious climbing skills but still a 3 meter fence is too much
I always hated having to do this level, I only ever defeated Willard once and I'm sure it was down to pure god luck. I never did undertand why he wanted to change into some kind of spider thingy anyway.
You gotta love how the game designers made it possible to escape without killing the final boss… and then put a fence in your way at the end 😅😂… done it!!
Just about to start the RX level but must try this when I can... I've found this game much harder than 1 and 2 mainly because of having to sprint and duck crawl in places... And the variety of different vehicles that you use... Was surprised I ever managed to complete Lud's Gate.. Struggled even with a written walkthrough and RU-vid video!!!
Take one hop back while shooting the Eagle 10 times. Roll around the instant you finish up. Take a running jump to the ladder. You have to steer Lara right in the air and press action as late as possible for her to grab the highest rung possible (For some reason, you just have to do that). You'll know you hit it if you have to climb up 6 steps to reach the level you need. Press right to let Lara's feet go. Shimmy once to the right. It's a very short shimmy, so press up quickly. Roll and Crouch.
@popfan95b If trying to get past this door would kill, half of the Tomb Runner crew would be long gone. Trust me, it's not happening. The doors in Maria Doria are specially designed to not have a wall square. If there was one, Lara would bump into it from the other side.
Tried that. :( I think, with Trajan's Markets, it works partly because there are empty squares to the left and right of the square on which the gate is placed. Because the square on which the gate is is considered a "wall" square. Although you still end up on the gate's square when doing that (in TR5), which is why you get stuck and can spin around fast.
The button does nothing when Lara presses it. Enemies come from that building, and the door opens by itself during the events, assuming you defeat Willard.
@popfan95b Door objects are compeletely different from windows. A closed door counts as a full wall square, so there is no crack at all like there is with fence objects.
I tried that first, but if you turn that much to the left, the crawl collision will cause Lara to eject away from the wall, and you will get hit. I added annotations, it's mentioned there.
So at 5:13 where you hear someone's footsteps (not Lara's) I assume those are the enemies from inside that locked door that Lara can't open? They're trapped in there for all eternity? That's messed up.
i do believe theres a trigger that closes the gate, if you bypass it you can finish the level, i just don't remember where it was, it was in Brotherhood of Gaming's TR3 speed run
Rest assured, there is no such trigger. A Tomb Raider room inspector called FexInspect can tell you this in 10 seconds. Furthermore, TBoG's speedruns are fake. The rest of their content isn't exactly in point either.
I tried a bit, but couldn't find any way. Most of the corners have nothing but ceiling above. I'm not very good at corner bugs though. But I think rr_carroll tried it some time ago too, and couldn't find a way.
There is indeed the other way where you pull up at the right time, and have Willard hit the wall right below you. I find that requires near frame precision however. I must've tried about 50 times loading the same savegame over and over, and only succeeded once. This method on the other hand, requires precision. I do this: (Cont. in next comment)
I did this right after watching this video a few weeks ago and ya do get stuck and none of the corner bugs work in the area because of the solid "sky" (low ceiling)
So what does that door/button do? I've got a downloaded save (because TR3 still gives me the willies too much to play through) where the door is open but there was nothing but a small, empty room inside, and the button wasn't yet pressed - and pressing it still did nothing.
If collecting the artifacts opens the door, could you do the usual routine of grabbing them then escaping without killing Willard? Or will it only work from the exact positions he and Lara start the level at?
It is possible due to the discoveries made by Chreden (secretub) and GreenApple968. There are a few exploits that you can use to avoid Willard's death ray, alongside abusing his positioning, which both involve saving/loading strats.
