it was always adult. the shit they never allowed us to see in america didnt change it. roy died, and rick and minmei had sex before they knew they were going to live, everyone, even at the time knew it.
Saw the Robotech TV series at the age of 11, Saw this at the age of 25 and thinking "I've been deprived of my childhood experience by giving us Roboshit".
Robotech was my childhood..it was really good with excellent music score. It's just that DYRL? takes the animation to a different level. We are blessed to witness both!😊
So this is how Do You Remember Love? portrays the events of the original show? Wow. This is... weird. As someone who's five episodes in to SDF Macross, I don't remember the Zentraedi looking like mutants, them speaking a fictitious language, Hikaru piloting a VF-1D with a custom fast pack(?), Zentraedi in-fighting and violence akin to Akira.
It’s an alternative version of the events of the show. It’s even confirmed to be an in-universe movie, while the tv show’s events are the actual events that occurred.
didn't roy focker die after returning to an office lounge or something? he was shot a few times, returned to the office to have a drink and one of the friends finds bullet holes in his ship, blood on his seat?
Hein122 Yeah, as geoxile mentioned, this is the Do You Remember Love film version, which is a complete retelling of the television show. Roy did die as you said in the television series, but they switched almost everything up to tell the Macross story in one two-hour setting for the film.
+Geoxile which is probably why the Zentradi look cyborgish, use numbers for last names (probably adding to the mass produced clone soldier is thing), and their ships have some sort of look techo organic look to them.
DYRL was great, but having royal Scumbag Quamzin/Khyron in so little of it feels like a missed opportunity IMO, especially since we don't really see Laplamiz do.. anything. Girl doesn't even get a chance to let the culture get good.
I honestly find it pretty brutal. There’s a cruelty to the way his Valkyrie gets his head smashed gives it a sense of physicality and brutality than just air fight combat lacks. Also I think here it’s more obvious how Hikaru’s selfish actions endangered everyone
This is a movie within the Macross show called "Do You Remember Live" that is essentially a movie the main characters watch that is a different version of what happened. Focker died the same way he did in Robotech :playing a guitar while slowly bleeding to death
