I was a kid (in Romania, same group with Colombia and USA) when this tragedy happened. But I remember the second day after that game(which followed our loss against Switzerland 1-4), people saying that Escobar will get killed when back to Colombia. Not just for own goal but also for Colombia's elimination in the group stage. People in Romania already knowing what would happen a few days later to Andres Escobar. Imagine, what people in Colombia was talking after that own goal. It's been said, that even the nephew of Andres Escobar, told his mother(Andres's older sister) that he will surely be killed.

He was a decent nice gentleman. I feel bad for his family.

Yeah! That has worked out fabulously! Get ALL of those millions of people that use Cocaine rounded up and lock them away. I mean you will have to do it again and again and again, but who cares right. Oh, wait. Maybe the US could try decriminalization. That way people can seek treatment without fear of their families being ripped apart and then landing in prison. I'm actually in favor of legalization. Regulate sales like alcohol. The USA learned nothing from prohibition. The United States already has the highest rate of incarcerated people per capita of any country in the world. The way the system fails in the USA needs to be addressed and I am almost positive that locking up drug users that have never committed a violent crime only adds to an already overloaded private prison system.
