Very versatile blades. Fresh ESEE ground coffee.👍🏻 Batoning wood is a necessity in most situations. You work closely with the wood you are turning into kndling. The axe is there to process logs.

We are all different, and needs are different. Weight, versatility, need, even age (I'm over 60yrs old) I live in Upsate North East USA, hardwood county, large and small game with lots of ponds, lakes, streams to fish in. AN ESEE 6 & 4 (I attached sheaths togeather by cord) are my carry in the woods and about ALL THE TIME. Why ..??... Age and muscle/nerve skills diminish in age a little larger gives me a safety and ease of use. The #4 handles ALL SMALL CHOIRS to include skinning game....MY #6 sets camp, tinder sticks (larger knife for me easier/controllable and safer ), large game quartering /joint seperating/etc, (#4 to skin). Also #6 is my digging and abusing knife. I do carry a SILKY 240 BUSHCRAFT SAW...to old and to much work to chop unless I use my CONDOR VILLAGE at base camp. HINT HERE: Cut wood at 12" and not larger. Easier to baton/split. USE THE RIGHT TOOL for the right job and the right hike about, and Basecamp is different than a hike about. DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A SILKY SAW & KNIFE HERE.....Any knife you beat your brains regardless of Jungulus or not......simple cutting with minimal effort with a SILKY. That or carry a CONDOR PARANG with a ESEE #3or #4 attached to the sheath.

Opposing results when one person stabilizes the wood with their left hand and one doesn’t. The unstable wood causes the knife to bounce away and not dig in.

Rice here, I just ordered my very first Esee 6 knife. I heard a lot of good things about this knife but lets face it, if you're in a place like BC down to the amazon rain forests, it rains a lot, and you have no choice but to baton wood in these locations. It's not about beating the knife like a hammer, but about getting to the dry wood. I don't want to carry an axe, and I don't want to carry another knife for this purpose, another knife for that purpose. I want to carry a knife that can do it all. And I would never use the tip for prying, that's just dumb.

This vid is 100% spot on. I've been into knives for 35+ years and the no.1 problem I continue to see is users failing to take the time to assess their requirements prior to buying the best knife for those requirements. There are big differences between wood chopping & food prep!! All too often users buy a knife that they 'like' or that has been 'recommended', then they try to make it work and wonder why the performance is bad or the knife fails. This vid gives some great advice to help assess your requirements. Sharp blades all.

Ive got several esee knives, love them and the warranty. My fav is the candiru, but ive bad experience with the shitty polymer sheath that came with. Mine had a fairly loose fit that ended with me losing one of them while working. The new one was better, but i still cant stand that style sheath. Glad they have the handle scales now too. Its not fully esee made, but i like the folders as well. Avispa model is a go to for me.

@@RandallsAdventureESEE So you have seen 'Joe X' from Österreich doing his destruction tests. The Mora Companion HD did amazingly well .He couldn't break it doing the tip bending test. The steel pole broke it at the end. But it took some work for sure. I find those tests interesting. They don't mean some knives are better than others because they did survive the test. That would mean everyone is going to use a ESEE-5 type of knife. No thanks 😁.

Sorry to say that but the flat grind is the less good choice for bushcraft. In my opinion the best grind is convex and scandi. I have a Esee 5 and 3 and it's best purpouse is the food prep out in the woods. Second thing is the steel - 1095 is not the best for outdoor activities. I prefer more durable steels like CPM3V. It's harder to bring the edge to factory but it lasts longer in the field.

For chopping tasks, it is stupid to expect a 4 inch blade to chop through a 1/2 inch branch. Lean the tree up against another tree and baton it through. If a 4 inch knife is all you have in the "out of doors", then you went out there extremely ill prepared. I know you are just trying to make a point, but the point is don't expect that little bitty knife to do the job of a much bigger knife or a hatchet. To think it would be just as effective for this task is delusional. Just my opinion.

I like honest people. Any knife can break if used wrong. A knife is a quality tool, not a pry bar; if your knife is a pry bar it is likely a poor knife. If you want to hack, take a machete, if you want to chop take an axe, if you want to skin, slice, carve then get a knife. I have had an ESEE 3 and 4 but sold both as I hated the flat handles. I have a RAT 7 with TKC handle and love the more filling handles. I wanted an ESEE with HM handles, but now I am leaning more towards an ESEE with TKC style handle.

I would love to see ESSIE come out with a knife with the scandi convex, I would be one of the first in line to purchase that knife. ESSIE is already in the top of my collection of knives and the scandi convex grind would put them up to EDC

I bought the Esee 6 and on the way the Esee 4... and I see that I made a big mistake, they are not good at anything, there is no fine cutting in food and they do not work well with wood (a Scandi does it better) cut branches from a fallen tree? ...for that I use an axe or machete, these are supposed to be knives, I'm not going to cut down trees with them... why do you insist on the stupidity of batoning? ...I need to cut up an animal or fillet a fish, cut vegetables or simply peel them, they are only half-way good for that and there are much better options at half the price of the Esee, stainless steel like 440c which is still reliable and the Sandvick and even the Aus and Bohler... I don't need a billet, I will return them. thanks

Joe is driving through on his strikes. You are "pulling your punches" and not carrying all the way through with your strikes. At the impact, your are pulling the blade back off the work. Let the momentum settle the blade into the target before you recover your swing.

I have seen destruction tests and other information and demos, also friends or family all have proven that the famous see 4, 5, 6, etc, and others that survivalists say the tips snap easily and snap rather easily. The famous esee knives are the best rated. But the esee famed. It knives my brother and his friends and family use knives roughly and in ways I. Use my Emmerson and cold steel knives I've tested especially as imo and all the people who bought esee knives don't keep up with the practical uses that I've used in my real survival situations and having to use the tip to cut open cans and meat, etc. Buy yourself a cold steel knife!! Watch survivor Lily's reviews on Falkniven and cold steel knives. There are big differences. In my experience, the whole esee is Hype, not practical use.

Yes, they are definitely right about usage and having the right tool for the right job. Here’s my problem with esee. For the steel they use, they are way to expensive. Buck is another terrible company for steel. Cheap! If you know knives at at, you will stay away from esee and buck. This whole video was made because they use cheap steel and they are tired of replacing blades for people. Here’s a concept. Start using steels that actually match your price point….

09:28 Question: why START with the big wood and process it down to thinner stuff? Surely one starts collecting smaller stuff and work up to big logs to split down? This way you might just find you don't have to do and knife-battering at all, or just a minimal amount. 50:00 That knife is definitely not "the right tool for the job"! The Junglas or maybe the Junglas II would be more appropriate.

If I were in the remote wilderness, which I am ALL the time, I start by finding the largest pieces. Gathering enough fuel to start the fire and get it up to temperature. Often the weather is challenging...things are wet. You need to work quickly and effectively to build a strong base with dry wood. Find the largest stuff, split it down to the dry interior by batoning. process down to the kindling and tinder. Establish your fire lay...and get it sparked up. Once the fire is started you have very little time to make sure you have enough kindling and fine material to get the fire hot...there's no time for gathering. You need all your supplies directly at your side and ready to go. So time upfront can pay off in your ability to actually sustain a fire in the harshest conditions. In my experience you're prone to ultimately failing to sustain a fire if you don't have all the right materials at your side. Biggest first.
@dennisleighton2812
@dennisleighton2812 Год назад
@@outerlimitless In that one scenario I will agree with you! With modern technology and meteorology one can usually anticipate such conditions and plan accordingly. But yeah, in that case I would start big and do some splitting, using the right tools. Fastest way to get logs to split - a saw! Fastest way to split, an axe (or, a simple wood wedge if weight is a big issue.) Point taken.👍

I can’t believe these guys a chopping wood with a knife this is silly. I carry a Hawaiian Cain Knife. And a folding Gerber Knife. A sharp Cain Knife will cut through trees and split wood.

I can see that your swinging chopping technique needs a bit more work. Your are holding the knife too tight and actually stopping it and absorbing all the vibrations when it hits the wood. It needs to be loose in hand sort of wiggle and transfer all the force on the wood your are cutting. I can see Joe’s technique is better. @31:40 i agree 100% pinky lanyard is almost a must for chopping but not to be rude in your case it would not matter.

Laser strike is the best knife I’ve owned. I own two of them and I haven’t found a better all-around blade. Only weakness is some hot spots on the handles, but not enough for me to consider changing scales.

For that bigger branch you should use VictorInox knife with saw iron. Works just so. For that stupid board as well. Would be long done.

I could not agree with you guys more! If you're going to buy a knife then do your due diligence and find out the intended purposes of that knife model prior to purchasing for example you don't take a chefs knife into the woods and think it's going to do everything that you would need it to do! Or you don't buy a hunting knife with a super thin blade/edge and expect it to be a great pry-bar and hard use tool!!! Do some research, figure out what kind of steel would suit your needs best and the style of knife for the tasks you intend to use that knife for, now some of us own many many many knives because werjust crazy and have to but it certainly is not a bad idea to have more than one then you can have a hunting knife to take hunting, a big camp knife to take camping and process wood and chop with, a small bushcraft style of knife to carve different things and even an edc fixed blade that can be used to cut everyday things you might encounter but God's sakes use the right knife for the right task and you will have those knives for a lifetime!!!

Nope. Theres such thing as too much compound. Also theres a limit to stropping, a knife can be over stropped and have a hard time cutting because the edge despite being razor sharp the edge has no tooth

Gave a few Izula s to Israeli infantry guys. They loved them. Compact size, good retention, did the job.

Actually, it does not depend on knives, it depends on the skill of the user. If you suck, you suck.

Does Esee regrind and resell the knives they take back on warranty? I’d be happy with an Esee 4.5 at the right price.

IMHO: They were "ALL" Beating yourselves to death! Sorry... but BIGGER is BETTER! Unless you are like me: (carrying a multitude of blades @ all times) keep in mind your choice of blade for the task! Again... IMHO: EVERY BLADE you chose to test... was NOT UP to the task! Use a larger blade, machete, short axe, save yourself the hassle, the time, the work and enjoy the outdoors! Thank you, J

This was about ESEE's lineup. They do have a machete...and hatchet...but unfortunately we don't own those models.
