She's still under-the-radar for the moment, I wouldn't be surprised if she gets big real soon. This is good stuff.

She reminds me of the singer from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. That's always a good thing XD

I have a theory that a change in hairstyle is indicative of wanting a new identity. When making a change in hair, it is known that the look will be taken on for a period longer than just a bought new suit or different color of eyeshadow. Perhaps unconsciously wanting slow inward growth while the outer growth occurs; a physical representation of an inward feeling. A drastic hair cut is typical of a person that is starting to get over an old love. But with ever changing styles, there is a constancy. An identity in unpredictability. Perhaps wanting to own that, but in reality being caught in a limbo between the old and unknown new self. Initially, it is done perhaps to be noticed, not for pity or sexuality, but for almost the opposite. To be taken in by others as asexual and dignified, via a lense of pure personhood.

shanewins when everyone is an individual these days, the cultural stand out musician is the one that shows communion with others. people want to see and hear people coming together, but without too much domination from one. it makes people feel together as listeners and almost part of the music. but also not watered down versions of everyone, which i think was paper bird's problem. they were right on the cusp, but something with the chemistry in composition never came through. that's why the shakey/esme thing worked.

Leah Hatfield I love the Shakey/Esme stuff. That is how I stumbled upon Esme, as my attention to singer/songwriter music tends to be kind of Texascentric, but this is such a powerful song. A female songwriter tackling this kind of subject matter could easily alienate, or even seem foreign and inaccessible, to a male listener. However, this composition and performance completely sucked me in. Made me think about lovers from my past, who they were to me, who I was to them, what I was thinking when I took them in, while they stayed around, after they left... The level at which the performance managed to revive and trigger numerous specific emotionally charged memories covering 20 years of relationships (or things that never quite rose the the level of relationships) is art.

On the new Netflix series, Gypsy, they use many of her songs, like Francine. An actress is lipsinking to the music, though. This lady is moving up!!! Great music!!!

Like to hear her singing with a really good band, has more possibilities to use that voice as the songs she singing are rather common and boring.
