It is and its atrocious to always release these hardbacks at very high prices. April 1st aside however, all the major academic publishers are in on it. Not sure why Brill gets the thick end of the stick though: I have many of their Ukiyo-e books in particular of theirs and to be fair to them they're amongst the finest printed volumes I own.

April Fools aside, Brill does have an Open Access PDF section of about 1000 books. None of which has been to now referenced on this channel but there are a selection of Dead Sea Scrolls, Nag Hammadi, and at least one Alchemical title along with a few on subjects you never thought you might be interested in until you find out somebody wrote about them.

I thought something was up with announcement Brill was doing a promotion. I’m pretty sure it’s on their business charter they don’t do business. I’m mean in theory it makes sense. You have some one promoting your obscure books, for free, so capitalize on demand, print up some soft backs, sell at discount to get volume. I think their model is make 10 copies at exorbitant prices and hopefully sell to libraries.

I woke up from a seriously bad dream to this. Nearly did myself a serious injury laughing. Disturbingly I was hoping this was true as there is a Brill-published history (nothing 'esoteric') that I want but it was worth having my slim (volume) hopes dashed for the level of amusement.
What were they pointing? 😂 As the true meaning of April Fool's Day is said to be one of renewal and new beginnings, the outcome of this announcement could have been very interesting 😄
There have been a surprising number of unexpected and… peculiar… announcements today and this one is definitely the least expected. Happily, I already have a Brill patch to sew onto my Tweed Cultist Robes-so with Dr. Sledge’s backing the cool rich kids won’t make fun of me at *the meetings* any more.
