The Ginyus didnt live up to the hype? Recoome was the second most terrifying force behind Frieza and Ginyu took out Goku for a very long time. The only one who can really be called a fraud is Guldo.

The Schutzstaffel were the least hyped up within the narrative, yet were the most formidable villains in the series. Kind of shows that hype is a bit of a doble-edged sword. Still, it is great that Kubo was able to improve upon the portrayal of Squad Zero in the anime. The Espada were overall solid. The were a bit hampered by the Arrancar arc ending up longer than Kubo had planned for and him not wanting a lot of the Soul Reapers to go all out at that point. Still, I think as far as characterization goes, they are overall better than the Sternritters, even if the Quincy were generally more effective as villains.

as much as I like the ESPADA, I hate the fact that they failed to kill a single MC Shinigam. They might defeat some of the captains but those captains got healed and was ready to fight in no time... TYBW arc was the first time Bleach MC Shinigamis started to die.

Espada just weren't that strong. They're still goated but they didn't feel as threatening as the sternritters. Hallibel should have defeated Toshiro ans Starrk should have killed Love (who has 0 relevance later besides jobbing to Gerard)

Yami isn’t stinger than the other Espada he’s just got the most spiritual energy of them all.

Ulquiorra isn’t more powerful than the top 3, they are factually more powerful. His second resurrection didn’t make him more powerful. Barragan was only defeated by his own power. Harribel never really struggled in her fight against hitsugaya or the others and Starrk’s heart was never in the battle. They’re all more powerful than ulquiorra when you look at why Aizen gave them the tattoos. Squad zero beat their fraud allegations thanks to the anime. The elite squads aren’t perfect but are still great.

I think the rankings were not some perfect measure of actual ability but a relative measure and, more importantly, a way for him to sow discord among their ranks. With this assumption, we could see why ulqi was number 4. He didn't care for the rankings so Aizen put him there to be a bulwark. Yammy was given 0 to placate him (he may be true number 4). Stark may have been number one just to piss off the former king because Aizen can be petty and dramatic sometimes.

I disagree on Ulqiorra being shown as stronger than the top three. The thing people constantly point to is the Second Release(which Ulquiorra himself never states would alter his ranking, he's fully aware of it and still tells Ichigo he's the fourth strongest of the Espada) and his lance attack that makes a large explosion. However, this attack never lands a successful hit, it's hard to aim and Ulquiorra is afraid of using it too near himself. Halibel, Barragan and Stark are all shown to be just as fast and have more useful and powerful attacks that they can spam with nigh impunity. Halibel's ability to generate an ocean for attack, defense or obstruction that Ulquiorra doesn't have viable counters to, Barragan's Respira and time dilation that would prevent Ulquiorra from even landing a single hit on him and Ulquiorra has no counter at all to Respira, and Stark's Cero Spam/Wolves that can box in, overwhelm Ulquiorra all are more viable in combat than the lance or any of Ulquiorra's attacks or defense. Kubo gave more attention to the Ulquiorra/Ichigo fight in the same way he did the Byakuya/Ichigo fight in the SS arc, but that doesn't mean Byakuya is anywhere near Yamamoto, Shunsui or Unohana. And what defeated the top three Espada was their personality traits. Each of them should have effortlessly won their respective duels if they had taken them seriously. Halibel only wanted to fight Yamamoto, not Toshiro, Lisa and Hiyori and has been shown not to want to target weaker beings, Barragan's arrogance and boredom led him to play with Soi Fon, Omaeda and Hachi and Stark didn't want to fight at all against Shunsui, Ukitake, Love and Rose. Had the top three Espada gone for the throat they could have killed their opponents with ease and they could put Ulquiorra down just as easily, second form or not. The Yammy retcon to Espada 0 was a poor decision that Kubo did just for a twist(which I suspect was the same reason Stark was #1)

Would Espadas really be in the Shinigamies side like how Mayuri leads 2 Espadas. Out of all the squads mentioned only the Zero division bothered to back each other up during combat without being begrudged to do so. That alone shows why out of all of them they are the best.

DBZimran and Mr. Tommo's thoughts on strength of Ulquiorra are different. Perhaps it makes sense why Ulquiorra was strongest except I don't see any counter from Ulquiorra against Barragan's power. Why it makes sense? Because I have read on reddit backstory of Ulquiorra that he was first Vasto Lorde of Hueco Mundo. And not just first but a natural born Vasto Lorde. A natural Vasto Lorde born with birth of Hueco Mundo. That's why there is no human history for Ulquiorra and his skin is of different colour than skin colour of other arrancars. Same goes for Soul Reaper group. Yamamoto was oldest and strongest. Except Ichibei which I don't think can defeat Yamamoto if Yamamoto is in Zanka No Tachi West form. But is it necessary that being oldest means strongest? That may be a factor but as we know Ulquiorra is not someone who believes in anything. And from his backstory, we know that he believed in nothing, he felt no emotions, tastes, no hunger, no purpose. So why he will believe in trying to become strong. So he didn't progress much in terms of growing power. Plus he never felt any danger and we know feeling danger also produces some kind of emotions and change of expression on face. But he was very powerful for long time and he never faced someone threatening. That's why he was proper nihilist. He may be strongest espada and he may be old as same as Ichibei or maybe little less older, but he was nihilist who believed in nothing. A proper nihilist means your growth stops. I would have loved to see a twist in the story like this: 'When Aizen tells Ichigo that all battles of Ichigo were his plan. He should have told Ichigo that Ulquiorra was the strongest and he(Ulquiorra) himself had no idea of his own strength. Since he had been a guy interestless in past, he himself had not explored his complte potential. Ichigo had no chance against Ulquiorra against even in his monstrous hollow form. Ulquiorra was the only one who had potential to defeat base Aizen easily if Aizen does not use Kyokasuigetsu. But even during that hypnosis, if Ulquiorra can't defeat and then he can't be defeated either by base Aizen. Aizen artificially weakened Ulquiorra with Hogyoku.' But for audience this kind of twist would have made them angry that Aizen can artificially cut potential in half using Hogyoku. That's too convenient. Plus because of that, one of the favourite and kind of innocent espada will die just because his potential was cut artificially by Aizen and audience will not get to see his real potential ever. Not even if there was a backstory on Ulquiorra because he(Ulquiorra) never fought hard in past. But as ridiculous is this plot convenience I just suggested, for me it is nothing in compare to: 1) Having a way to steal bankai who is personal characteristics and inner soul manifestation of each and every soul reaper. I felt that it was ridiculous. 2) Having Soul King's body parts as overpowered and overbroken. Left hand: Pernida Parnkgjas, Right hand: Mimihagi, Brain: Gremmy Thoumeaux with scrift 'Visionary', Soul King's heart as Gerard Valkyrie with schrift 'Miracle'. 3) Kyokasuigetsu is also broken. Tsukishima's book of the end is also broken. Tokinada's Zanpakuto's ability to copy power and abilities of other Zanpakutoes is ridiculous. 'Balance' scrift of Jugram Haschwalth. Uryu's shrift 'Antithesis'. Ichibei Hyosube's 'Ichimonji' and 'Shirafude Ichimonji'. Senjumaru's dimensional Bankai which is almost inescapable which maybe writes off your fate that how you are eventually goimg to end up until you are able to reverse or chamge your fate with your broken abilities. Oh yeah fate reminds me of 'Almighty'. How we can forget about it? So I wonder that how much that plot convenience related to Ulquiorra which I suggested above could have caused backlash from audience and readers. I don't think it would have been much of a big deal if it was done using something like Hogyoku which is something fascinating itself. It can keep regeneratinf Aizen. And it keeps making Aizen's reiatsu go higher and higher. It manifests desire if tou have enough strength to get that desire. It can restructure your soul as it did with Aizen's soul on Aizen's desire to make it(soul) compatible to transcend Hollow and Soul reapers. So I don't think that explantion would have been a big deal for Tite Kubo around my suggested plot convenience on Ulquiorra.

Ulquiorra is not stronger than 1-2-3. The problem is that people seriously downplay other Captains to ridiculous levels. Ulquiorra might be stronger than Harribel only during segunda etapa. However, the gap between Espada no 2 and Harribel is ridiculous. Even if Ulquiorra's second resurrection gave him a boost, it doesn't automatically close the gap between Barragan and Harribel. Base Barragan is stronger than resurrection Harribel. Ulquiorra wasn't fighting Yamamoto's strongest captains besides himself and Unohana simultaneously. These two are considered transcendent in battle and yet they couldn't land a single hit on Starrk. Who also took on two captains in Hollowfication which is equal to or greater than a Bankai's multiplier and he did that while not even paying attention to them, they were smacking him around and he still wasn't even paying attention to them. Even their hollowfied attacks didn't even scratch him and he wasn't even trying to defend. When he decided to, he simply ended defeated them without even moving. Kubo recently revealed that Ichigo's hollow side became stronger due to him being in hueco Mundo. This means Ulquiorra was actually shown to be that strong because he was in hueco Mundo. Remember, in bleach, huge explosion DOES NOT equal power. Grimmjow's Gran Rey Cero can tear space, but he'd still be one shot by Shunsui in Base.

Barragan, Coyote and Ulquiorra lived up to expectations. And Barragan & Coyote were demonstrably more powerful than Ulquiorra, imho 😎

People always forget that espadas ate significantly strong heuco mundo

Do people actually forgot that Espada rank is based on their reiatsu, not their overall abilities/power? And this is officially stat in the manga We know that reiatsu has always had a huge role in determing one's power level. But it is not always the case. For example, Yammy jump to lvl 0, having his reiatsu boosted even higher than Stark after his release, but he is actually very mid in other aspect. Mid set of skills, mid IQ/battle IQ, mf is also slow. Now same case but different POV also applies to Ulquiorra Segunda Etapa. Considered how smart Aizen is, he probably know about SE, he only yet to see it. but the fact that Ulquiorra didn't change the rank after release can lead to theory that he didn't increase his reiatsu that much to overtake Harribel's reiatsu pool, but he gains ultimately faster, stronger, better combat skills. Now as i stated before that reiatsu ≠overall abilities, this might put SE slightly above Harribel in terms of overall. As shown by the feats, the narratives, the scene, everything build up that Ulquiorra and Ichigo is fighting like a 2nd final boss arc

Elites typically live up to their name only if their opposition is a tier lower than them. This is why the Espada where wiped out almost to a member while the Shinigami only sustained moderate to serious injury. And why the Quincy onslaught inflicted such damage to the Shinigami later in turn especially the foot soldiers.

One of the biggest misconceptions in Bleach that still exists in 2024 is people thinking Ulquiorra is stronger than Halibel, Barragan, Starrk and Yammy. It’s never stated or even implied. The SAFWY novel outright confirms that Respira, Starrk’s wolves, and Yammy’s physical strength being superior to R2 Ulq’s Lanza and Full Hollow Ichigo’s power displayed in that fight. As for saying Barragan and Halibel fought less impressive opponents…Soi Fon’s Bankai was able to straight up overpower Respira which is stronger than Lanza, and Starrk who’s stronger than Barragan and R2 Ulq was more impressed by Toshiro’s Bankai than Soi Fon’s, and wondered if Starrk could reach the level of Toshiro. Again stronger than R2 Ulq But even without the novel scaling, Ulquiorra gets gassed up for fighting Ichigo and Halibel gets downplayed for fighting Toshiro when Toshiro was ridiculously stronger than Ichigo at that point Going back a few fights, Ichigo needed his Mask to fight on par with a Base, 1 armed Grimmjow who was nerfed so much that he was kicked out of the Espada, considered weaker than Espada 9. Ichigo spammed him with several Getsuga’s which are vastly stronger than Ichigo’s own AP, and couldn’t put him down. Meanwhile, Toshiro pretty much one shotted Res Luppi…the guy who replaced Grimmjow as Espada 6, without even using his strongest technique Ichigo with his Mask Amp spamming his strongest technique being unable to put down a nerfed, Base Grimmjow who’s not even Espada level anymore vs Toshiro one shotting Res Luppi and overpowering an attack that amped his AP 8x over without using his best technique himself Then skipping forward after Ichigo mastered his Hollow Mask, fought Grimmjow and Nnoitra, got massively stronger, and then healed to full capacity, a Full Power Masked Ichigo was getting blitzed and would’ve gotten one shotted by Res Ulq, and even had a fully charged, full power Black Getsuga that’s compared to a Black Cero (a 10x amp) completely negged by Ulq’s aura and wings Meanwhile, Toshiro was faster than Halibel in terms of speed, could block her attacks and Ceros with his Bankai wings and ice, could physically damage through her Hierro with his sword strikes (which is why she dodged them instead of tanking them with Hierro), and could even stop and counter her Cascada, which is her strongest attack and likely outscales the Black Cero and Gran Rey Cero in a similar way to Res Grimmjow’s Claw attack, R2 Ulq’s Lanza, Barragan’s Respira and Starrk’s wolves etc Toshiro and Halibel from FKT would’ve blitzed and one shotted Masked Ichigo from the Ulq fight and R1 Ulq himself. Due to the massive gap in Espada’s base stats up until the top 3, it’s likely R2 Ulq would just be getting to Res Halibel and Bankai Toshiro’s level, with Bankai Toshiro’s Tenso Jurin outright surpassing Soi Fon’s Bankai which is superior to Respira which is stronger than R2 Lanza as noted by Cien in SAFWY

Ulquiorra was never stronger than the top 3, cut it out. He's not surviving Yhwach like Haribel did, he even used his Quincy flames just to subdue her where he oneshot Fullbring Bankai Ichigo and Eye-patchless Kenpachi. Unless you think Ichigo or Kenny would lose to Ulquiorra at that point in the story, then no... Ulquiorra doesn't even usurp Haribel's rank let alone Barragan whose power Yamamoto respected among other things. Plus, he would oneshot Ulquiorra simply because of match up rules (Pokemon style), one uses reishi to form lances and the other literally kills reishi on a fundamental level. Starrk pushed both Ukitake and Shunsui to use their Shikai without even trying, the only other peraon to do this was Yamamoto himself. And the fact that they both had claims to the Captain Commander promotion speaks to their power. And Yammy has faster attacks that are just as powerful as high level ceros in his balas, he's not my favorite but he's definitely the strongest. How he was defeated is not shown, so we can't necessarily gauge much. All that can be assumed is that Zaraki, Byakuya, Mayuri and possibly Unohana who were all in Hueco Mundo somehow had a hand in his defeat. Mind you, Primera 1 to 3 were all nerfed where Ulquiorra and Yammy were amped since being in the Human world weakens them and being in Hueco Mundo makes them stronger. And the difference is significant because Chad who wasn't even a hollow got an even stronger arm boost than the usual one, meaning the Primera Espada would all be at least 2 times weaker if we're being very conservative with a lowball and likewise Ulquiorra would be at least 2 times weaker in the human world. This is why Haribel was stronger than Fullbring Ichigo and Kenpachi when she fought the same base Yhwach that they both lost to, and pushed him to actually try against her where he simply no diff'd both Ichi and Kenny. There's more complications as well, such as Ichigo's Shinigami badge nerfing his power by an unquantified amount up until his death, and White breaks it upon taking over and goes on to oneshot Ulquiorra. Unohana thinks that Ichigo's power is similar to that of a captain (which would be true), but because the badge was destroyed, it turns out he has more than twice the amount at his full power. So basically, the Ichigo that died to Ulquiorra only had a captain's level of power due to the badge's nerf. Even if you said that he had high class captain levels of power, any Primera Espada who fought several captains on their own could also just kill Ichigo just as easily as Ulquiorra did with Segundo Etapa. But even with the nerfs, both Barragan and Starrk still simply outscale and/or outhax Ulquiorra, maybe you could say that Haribel is debatable because she couldn't do much due to Toshiro being a bad elemental match up for her and the fact that Aizen took her out. But Toshiro negating her doesn't mean she's weaker, it's like Mahito vs Yuji and Nanami... Yuji was by no means anywhere near Nanami or Mahito in power, however he countered Mahito which eventually led to them winning that encounter. If they had met Dagon, they would be dead (which is later the case)... Doesn't then mean that Dagon can beat Mahito, see how that works? So Haribel is only debatable if you try to use Toshiro to downplay her, but even then, when she's in Hueco Mundo (as shown), she's stronger than Ulquiorra and comparable to Advanced class captains like Shunsui and Gin. I like Ulquiorra, but people really overrate him power-wise because he fought Ichigo. It's the Shonen logic that people can't seem to do without, not every MC fights the strongest villain among a group of villains. Ulquiorra and Grimmjow both were the perfect foils to Ichigo and Orihime among the Arrancar, just because they have the best fights and showcases of on-screen feats doesn't mean they are the strongest. Anyway, that's my only gripe with the Espada section, good video otherwise.

Do remember that Ichigo is not properly trained or received standard training until much later so he wasn’t able to use his Captain level abilities to the most like the captains. Am I saying the captain could handle Ulquiorra, no but I imagine they wouldn’t have struggled as much until the his second release. Also Ichigo was technically holding back until his Hollow transformation and completely overwhelmed Ulquiorra.

The other Espada could unlock a segunda etapa if they trained for it. It's almost like a Shikai and Bankai, though the Resurrectión is compared to a Bankai.

If uluquora had told Aizen about his new form, then Aizen would have restructured the espada : uluquora #1, Stark #2, Barragan #3, Hallibel #4

The Espada rankings were most definitely perfectly ranked, however the show casing of power was what had people thinking that it wasn’t right and ulquiora was stronger than the top 3. But the show casing of power was due to many factors such as who the espadas were fighting

Sorry Imran, but I think you are missing a big point. In the manga and the anime there was a better explanation to the ranking of the Espadas. It is this concept of the depth of pain/sadness as a motivator for the evolution of ones soul. This why Aizen ranked the Espada this way. Also strength has been continuously been a question the reader must reflect on. Just what is power and how do you get more of it. Hence the concepts of shikai, bankai and the evolutions thereof. As for 0 squad it is the japanese concept of mastery being the source of their power. The 0 squad each being creators of core elements of soul society, have a special place for their respective mastery of a particular skill.

Fun fact about the espada and Yammy, yes he may be the "strongest" espada having the number 0, but this was his resurrection. Did you notice that most of the espadas lose their numbers after resurrection? Might be a way to tell us that Yammy is still the weakest of them all
