I love Esperanza for giving props to the late great Betty Carter by covering Betty's song here. Betty "Bebop" Cater was the mother of all modern jazz singers. Spaulding has a clear reverence for the music. What a phenomenal artist and shining torchbearer for our culture. Keep on keepin' on, sistah!
One of the greatest artists walking the Earth today. Her entire presentation is overwhelming. To say that she is a great artist is to state the obvious. Give credit where it is due. In her case, she is beautiful, talented and conscious. I salute you, Your Highness. As close to perfection as it gets. A lady, an artist, an example. Live long! I love you.
I'm sorry, but when I see negative comments, of probably one the greatest talents will ever see in a long time, to come, I have to defend her, because she not hear to defend herself, so, on that note. Does anyone know, how hard it is to play a double bass, but also sing perfect timed vocals, at the same time, no. This woman is amazing, and beautiful with a spaced tooth, that I find extraordinarily goergous, if she ever fix that tooth, then I'll stop looking at these videos.
I love how you put this re: overwhelming! Her energy is so strong and pure I get goosebumps when she sings. Whitney Houston in a much more commericial vein of music also had that effect. It's like a spiritual ecstatic wave when you hear their voices. So glad to have discovered her.
I love that tune. By the way the move on 1:42-1:47 min reminds of the young Michael Jackson. She must have watched his moves and became influenced by him.. At least she covers a song by him..
I love her... i just don´t live the lack of power in her voice and/or entonation...the rest is perfect.... good ol times where singers were ´complete´. Freedom of speach.
NEVER cover Betty Carter. You won't succeed in doing her justice. Carve out your own niche and do THAT like only YOU can. Betty is inimitable and should never be touched. Especially not a well-known song like Jazz is...
+jazzsingerlady As a Betty Carter fan, and not myself being Betty Carter (RIP), I don't need to be gracious about it. This rendition isn't in service of what made the original great. It fits this girl too big.
