In 1983, the North Carolina State Wolfpack, coached by Jim Valvano, stayed alive in the postseason by winning nine do-or-die games in a row - seven of which they were losing in the final minute - beating the likes of Michael Jordan and three-time National Player of the Year Ralph Sampson. The unlikely squad made it to the national championship game against No. 1 Houston, aka Phi Slama Jama, a team featuring future NBA Top 50 all-time players Hakeem Olajuwon and Clyde Drexler. NC State was one of the biggest underdogs ever in the final game, one that went down as possibly the best college basketball game in history-ending with one of the most well-known plays of all time.

What this team accomplished could easily be renamed, "The Greatest Cinderella Story Barely Told". This wasn't David vs. Goliath; this was David vs. an ARMY of Goliath's. I agree with Terry Gannon, that this was a "man on the moon moment". The most striking thing to me, after watching this, is what WASN'T really delved into that much, which was the great, great love those players and coaches, especially regarding Jimmy Valvano, had for one another. What a very, very moving and true story this is. As I watched this, I laughed, I thought, and I was moved to tears; and yes, what a full day it was. RIP Coach V, you are sorely missed and you will never be forgotten.

Greatest tournament of all time, the highlight of their career, making the greatest basketball title run of all time, no one gave them a chance but the NC state faithful, and myself an 8 year old kid at time, turned 9 before the finals, I remember it well. Valvano's never give up mantra lives on forever, and No coach will match his motivation. we love you, and miss you, Jimmy V.

The biggest upset and most exciting ending ever in a National Championship final. A great journey if you look at their final ten games of the season to accomplish this feat. Will never be done again. I still don't understand how the Pepperdine Waves live with themselves after losing that game to the Wolfpack. A magical run.

This is the greatest documentary ESPN has ever produced. I was 11 years old living in North Carolina and remember vividly this incredible NC State run to the NCAA title. Every NC State game in the NCAA Tournament that year was just incredible drama, not just the amazing upsets of Virginia and Houston in the Final Four. And NC State had to beat N. Carolina in the ACC Tournament just to make it into the NCAA Tournament. Jim Valvano was an amazing coach and this is just such an amazing story. The most amazing story in the history of college sports in my opinion.

Damn good 30 for 30 film. My father taught at NCSU for 33 years and was there for all of Valvano's time. He tells me that of the night of that win, they watched the game in the basement and could hear the screams from Hillsborough Street five miles away. Unbelievable win. I just hope in my lifetime NCSU can get back to the mountaintop. With degrees from UNC and NCSU, I want both my teams to cut the nets down before I die, NCSU most of all.

...as a Brewer's fan who can relate as they lost the '82 World Series to the Cardinals in seven games six or so months earlier (their ONLY appearance ever), this eased that disappointment immensely...but it still stinks...when you're young, these wins and losses are kind of world changing in a way...as you grow older, you realize there are more important things to care about...but, ya, IT STILL STINKS!!!!...

Terry Gannon was SO wide open when Whitt tossed it up. Where Gannon was standing was basically a layup for him. It worked out for the Cardiac Kids.

Great film. Although a little less D. Whittenburg would have been nice. It seems Dereck needs to be the center of attention and is a legend in his own mind. I especially liked when he mentioned on the final play he thought about passing to Gannon but he thought Gannon would crap his pants in such a big moment of the game. "Dereck" a foot short for the game winner "IS" crapping your pants!!!!

Whittenburg is the best. I appreciate the humor and love he brings when telling these stories. I'm not a NC State fan but found the Cardiac Pack story inspiring.
