ESPN ran a segment on GameDay on 12/6/14 highlighting the dismissal of the UAB football team. It exposes some of the backroom politics of this decision, but not nearly all of it. For more information check out www.FreeUAB.com
Watts already got the opportunity to tell the players how he feels and how much football means to him, and he did: Not one damn bit. He is a liar. We do not have financial problems, and these weren't just promises. He simply does not want our school to play football, and he just did what he felt like without any good reason for it. He's an embarrassment to my school, and he should resign. I want football back. Go Blazers.
Its so terrible, what was done to these hard working players and staff members, and to UAB as a whole University, but we will rise above and overcome this past disaster, as the dragons we are! Go Blazers, NEVER QUIT!
The UA Board of Trustees contains 15 members. 13- UA grads, 2-UAB grads, and 0-UAH grads. Yet, UAB provides more revenue to the system than UA and UAH combined. Where's the equal representation? The board of a Division IA school should not control the decisions of another Division IA school. Bad business all around...
This school has people willing to donate millions of dollars to upgrade the football program and the UA BOT says no. Everyone knows if those people donated to UA (University of Alabama) the answer would be yes. Their is something fishy going on here and I don't like it. UA BOT lied to these players and coaches, hell everyone in the athletic program.
6 years late, but: what a CRAZY move that would have been. Shutting down the football program. Can't afford it. Sorry. "We raised 5 million dollars to cover the UAB shortfall and will raise more if you can commit to reinstating the football program." No. ... "We raised 5 million dollars to upgrade the concessions contracts at UA sporting events and will raise more if you can commit to reinstating the football program." ... Okay.
It's a real shame what they tried to do to UAB football. There's always been bad blood between the Tuscaloosa people and UAB Athletics. It makes no sense. UAB football poses no threat to the football factory down in Tuscaloosa with all their national championships. I don't get it...
Also just wanted to know what happened to that asshole teacher who got rid of the program mannn i wanted to punch him in the throat for what he did to the program lol
@@kiwibro754 unfortunately, that was the president of the university. He's still the president, but nobody from UAB wants him to be. It doesn't matter what we want though. He's a puppet for the University of Alabama. There are 3 schools in our system: UA, UAB and UAH (Huntsville). There is one Board of Trustees that oversees the 3 schools. That board is largely composed of people who only care about UA. The other two schools get screwed every time they meet.
@@kiwibro754 for a while he said he was too scared to drive to the school to even come to work so he didn't. Then he started taking a helicopter 🙄 During all this, when he was so concerned about a program that didn't cost the system money like their fake feasibility report said, he paid a UAB police officer to sit at his house (off campus) for protection. 🙄🙄🙄 "Fire Ray Watts" is still a common sentiment on campus.
"I'd have loved to have a heart to heart and share our disappointment in one another"!? Ya know... I'd love to see that too. What exactly did Ray fucking Watts have to be disappointed with in regards to these young men? :rests chin on hands: I'll wait.
