I was at the lions game last season. Herbert had 5 TD drives in a row including one to take the lead leaving only 41 seconds on the clock. The chargers lost. in week one against the dolphins who went on to destroy teams for 6 weeks and beat Denver with 72 points. Herbert had the lead with a go-ahead score. chargers gave up a TD and Herbert went back out and got instantly bum rushed sacked 3 times in a row with no protection at all. Herbert is clutch the coaching staff was absolute trash and so was the defense and running game and Oline. there were at least 4-5 more games like that last year. like greenbay.
Herbert’s worst season was last year and he was overcompensating in attempting to overcome the points being given up by the Chargers porous defense especially in the 4th quarter. This caused more interceptions, sacks and fumbles. This desperation will go away under Harbaugh.
Yes Agree chargers make playoffs Herbert is still a top 5 quarterback. He isn’t reason they don’t have playoff success. Defense injured receivers played a huge part .
Great video man. So many ppl write off Herbert by saying he’s not a top 5 QB in this league. I was initially skeptical of passing up Malik Nabers but the way how Hortiz addressed the WRs need gives a lot of promise
The Chargers now have a winning Proven Coach and a Top 5 Quarterback. And having the 2nd easiest schedule in the NFL favors them. They’re going to be run first pass second team, there going to be a physical team. Let’s remember Marty ball it got them a 14-2 record and a first seed in the post season. That’s a very good recipe to keep The opposing team’s quarterback on the side line like Mahomes and preventing him from getting on a rhythm and it also wears out the opponent’s defense.. I also believe that by the second half of the season those rookie receivers will be in sync with Herbert and will be unstoppable I say they make the post season as a wild card finishing with a 10-7 record and Herbert winning his first playoff game.
Dude I love how you broke down and compared the difference from last years coaching and how it is with a coach like HARBAUGH! My minds always thought about Staley like that, saying Justin will be great no matter what but even the greats need coaching like what Jim has to offer. Great video!
You think John Worthington was good, you should have seen his uncle Cal Worthington. Played in the 70's and 80's. The guy was a Truck ...or a car, depeding on what you needed. I think the most he ever played for was about $99.99 , zero down (signing bonus.) There was a little hubbub about his dog, Spot, if I remember. But we used to say: If you want a better deal, go see Cal. If you aren't at least 50 something and from SoCal, googs that.
This new coach hire in Harbaugh is probably the best since Marty and Coryell. Among many things, great teams usually have a star QB and head coach. It’s hard to find a star QB. The Chargers now have this duo. Expect the Chargers to be legit contenders moving forward.
People are literally stupid , Herbert has had 3 OC's in 4 years , he is now on his 4th system in 5 years! NO other QB has had the bs that Herbert has had to deal! His oline was 24th in pass blocking and 30th
I’d say Allen has had a lot to deal with as well. The most reliable and consistent QB situation has been in KC and SF. And go figure. Two teams with great offenses year after year.
You forgot to Mention Joe Alt and Reshawn Slater Right Tackle and Left Takle They Are Both Tone Setters in the trench and are both generational talent on both linemen
The whole "He's not that good a QB because he hasn't won any SBs... is said only by the most ignorant "so-called" fans with no clue. Football is a TEAM sport. Dan Marino sucked, I guess. Jim Kelly, Fran Tarkenton, Warren Moon, Dan Fouts, Phillip Rivers, Otto Graham, Randel Cunning ham, Archie Manning, Y.A. Tittle, Tony Romo and a never-ending list almost as long as the list of MEH QBs that did win. It has always been the clueless that give all the credit to the QB and all the blame.
we dont get talked about cause we dont win julie. i was so relieved when we got jim as our HC. he is going to change the culture for sure in that building.
The Chargers are poised to become one of the most dangerous teams in the league. Herbert scares everyone and their out used to be the D and the lack of running game . They will be good enough on defense and they will be a top 5 offense at least. Harbaugh will lead them to at least a wildcard . It’s so good to have a strong head coach not to mention the other coaches … it’s on KC!
Lombardi's was so fickled, ge could never create a consistent offense, two plays you're mashing, next two plays you go soft, they brought on the offensive injuries, we experienced being inconsistent
We have a top 5 QB, an OL that is going to be much improved, and a coaching staff that will get the most out of our players. If Bosa/Mack can both stay healthy, we can maybe make a push for a wildcard spot in December, but we have too many holes in premium positions like CB to be an immediate juggernaut like the Chiefs currently are. Two year window.
Ay man, it's nice that you're shouting me out more recently! Haha but yes, they'll be a playoff team & if there was a bold prediction to be had this year, it's that the Chargers will win the AFC West this season. I wouldn't be shocked. There needs to finally be competition for Mahomes in the AFC West. His division has been awful for years & he needs competition badly, Julian
Exactly. It makes me feel like I must be overly optimistic, because I've heard nobody mention the chance of the Chiefs not winning the AFC West. I believe it's a real possibility.
@@jctsliceHe did it once, then destroyed the team in 3 years and was fired. Just like Roman, Harbaugh believes in run run run then get your QB killed. He will probably trade Herbert for Murray because he likes running the QB. Do you even remember the Alex Smith and Kaepernick clown show. Harbaugh was fired because he destroyed the offense.
The Chargers get little attention because they don't really matter that much as a franchise. They've got really high talented rosters in their history and always choaked. So, they need to win to get the love.
Nowadays, they call it a dark horse team. The term used to be called Cinderella team. Whichever term you want to use I’m pulling for the Chargers. Of all the teams that could dethrone the Chiefs, the Chargers would be the most shocking and electrifying.
Yeah Cinderella is a weaker team that is playing beyond what anyone thought was possible. Darkhorse is more like people don’t realize just how good this team can be. Packers last season, Texans last season, etc.
CJ Stroud did not have Kansas City in his division in his rookie year. Justin did and broke a bunch of records.....I do like Stroud...just tired of Justin never getting his due.
The Chargers will make the playoffs simply because the AFC North and AFC South will beat each other up and only have the division leader make the playoffs. That means that the AFC East and AFC West will have 4 playoff teams. Ergo: Buffalo, Miami, the Chefs, and Chargers.
Chargers offense will get better. Defense will be worse, no depth and constant injuries will make this a 9 win team. Chiefs 12 Raiders 12 Charger 9 Broncos 4
@@JWLSports Yes. That defense is the #1 defense in the NFL. Chargers/Chiefs learned that lesson the hard way. Offense got rid of McDaniels and Jimmy G. Huge upgrade.
i mean if they start off 0-3 like they did last year then i’m skeptical about the season. i do agree and think next year an on they will be a good team. they need & should beat the raiders twice this season
It's playoffs this year, is my guess. Look what Harbaugh did year one in San Fran. Not to mention, last season was terrible, but the year before they were a playoff team. Last year I put down to Herbert getting hurt and the team just giving up on Staley.
When Harbaugh was fired from the 49ers, the team was a dumpster fire. The chargers are in such a strange situation, the head coach and the OC have never coached a good passing offense, never, neither have even had a 4000 yard season passing. So you get these smash mouth running coaches at a time your oline is a pass blocking oline, you have no running back to speak of, and a great passing QB who has no receivers. Very odd team.
@@donarmstrong2182 I agree, odd on the surface, and I don't really know what to expect once they take the field. They hired a coach to be just a passing game co-ordinator, too, so maybe that's Jim's way of acknowledging Roman's weakness. It's going to fun watching Harbaugh adapt to having a great QB for a change, I think.
I am amazed at what harbaugh has done already. Great and good times just now to be a chargers fan and have harbaugh as your coach. It's like Christmas in June. It felt like that when Don Coryell was hired. Good video, you made sense. Thanks.
obviously, injuries could derail this season. But, IF the receivers are even average and not terrible, the offense should be fine. IF Minter can improve the defense, chargers should reach the playoffs. of course, the O line has to play better than they did last year. They could not run the ball, and they could not pick up stunts and blitzes. Kellen Moore SUCKED as a coordinator and Staley SUCKED as a H C and D coordinator. Hopefully the center will be better than last years center and Alt will be better at R T.Also, Harbaugh like to put extra blockers in, which should help. Would LOVE to see Herbert silence his critics. Hopefully, Harbaugh can elevate Herberts game. Would love to see Herbert win MVP. make his critics choke on the crow they have to eat.
My Chargers could not run the ball, and they could not stop the run. They would almost always run the ball on first down, and gain 2 or 3 yards. Then they would have to depend on Herbert to bail them out with his arm, and since the o-line was below average, pass protection was a huge issue.. especially when the opposing defense knew you were going to pass. Harbaugh wants to be able to run the ball, so he picked Alt at #5 overall, and the rest of the o-line was pretty solid. Now being physical, they should be able to run the ball much more successfully, which will open up the play action pass, and the rpo game which will make opposing defenses have to guess what we are going to do. Herbert should thrive in that kind of offense. On defense, it’s harder to predict how good they will be, but they still have Mack who had 17 sacks last season, Bosa- who is still very good against the run and the pass as long as he can stay healthy, and James- who had a down year, because of the way Staley used him. So I look for him to bounce back. Harbaugh drafted the linebacker that played for Michigan the last two seasons, and was the one that called all of the defensive plays. He should make a difference immediately. There are still a lot of questions about who is going to be the starter at cornerback, interior d-line, and receiver, but there is a lot of talent to choose from on the roster and the best players will emerge during camp, so I’m not too concerned. As long as we have Harbaugh, we know this team will be physical on both sides of the ball, and I’m excited to see how we do this season!
The Chargers will be smarter and tougher under Harbaugh. The defense will play up to its talent, not below it. You already hear the players talk about the attention to detail under the Harbaugh coaching staff that was lacking previously. The WR corps is going to be better than most of the league gives it credit for. The run game is actually going to be a factor for the offense. I'll be surprised if the Chargers don't make the playoffs. I think they will win at least one playoff game.
This year will be interesting as the Chargers will be asked to do more with less on the field but as a Chiefs’ fan, I have seen the Chargers as the biggest threat to KC in the West in recent years. I do be believe that Harbaugh will get this team humming. Head coach is so important to a team’s success and he has actual proven bona fides.
Life long Charger fan and season ticket holder. I really like having our boys being ignored. They can focus. The culture has already changed. Herbert will be better protected. I believe they will make the playoffs. A better questions is, will they win the AFC W this year or next? It's a foregone conclusion. It will happen within the first three years, but I'm saying 2
He’s had horrific coaching. Especially under Staley. Tom Telasco our GM, was the biggest drawback we had. It’s his fault we didn’t have an identity for a decade
@@JWLSports trust me. I hated seeing dudes like Emmanuel Acho go in on him every chargers loss🤦🏾♂️. BUT, if he falls short with Jim Harbaugh, we can’t defend him. His excuses up until this point have been valid. But now Herbert has none
I’ll tell you why chargers don’t get media attention. The past 3 years the chargers got a bunch of media attention and under performed. The team choked a lot especially in televised games
@@JWLSports i have faith it will. As a chargers fan, I think i can say the whole fan base is getting tired of hearing we have one of the best rosters and we go 5-12. But id like to thank Telesco and Staley cus if they didn’t bomb as bad as they did, we wouldn’t get harbaugh
The running game, the defense, WR speed, OL play, and coaching have bee so atrocious the last couple years for the Chargers, Herbert hasn't stood a chance. We know Harbaugh is an elite coach. If he can just get those things to middle of the pack, they're going to be a massively better team!
Everyone talks about the games with or without the wr. I think the real answer lies in the games with or without linsley. When he has time, he shows who he is. Imagine mahomes in the SB running for his life but each game of the season dang near and you get Herberts season last year.
