For the novice in such matters, Juan Garcia Esquivel was known in the late 50’s and 60’s for his exaggerated orchestra arrangements that took FULL advantage of the then opening frontier called ‘stereo’; wordless chorus of ‘zuu-zuu-zuu’ and horns and percussions thrown left to right as if Spike Jones and his City Slickers were stuck in a blender were his trademarks that not many dared to follow.
The records Esquivel made where occasionally refer to as Space Age Pop, or, in the 90’s when he was re-discovered ‘Space Age Bachelor Pad Music’. Search his name in this RU-vid and you’ll hear excerpts from his amazing ‘Stereo Active’ records.
As elaborate and extravagant his sound was, it was enviable that he would find his way to a Las Vegas stage with a capable band. This excerpt showed how the two were made for each other.
This was taken from a Mexican documentary on Esquivel in the mid 2000’s. Sadly, only the last 3 parts of this show is available on RU-vid with the first part blocked off from the US due to copyright restriction (thanks for nothing). Whatever…
