I recent bought 12 plants from a hardware box store. Each plant came in a nursery pot and decorative ceramic pot. I got 5 maidenhair ferns, 4 golden godess philodendrons, 1 Silver Dragon alocasia, 1 watermelon peperomia and 1huge calathea network plant. They were on liquidation because we are heading into winter and I think they had all the plants outside for the summer months. Anyway, I paid $2 EACH for these plants and pots!!! Two ferns were completely gone but I'm trying to salvage the other 3, but more exciting thing is the network plant was so huge and had so much new growth coming in that I divided it into 2 full size plants and am propogating 2 rhizomes!!
I’ve made a habit of buying unhealthy, struggling plants and bringing them home to rehab them. It’s so satisfying to watch them turn around, thriving and growing. It’s also easy on my budget as they are up to 90% off.

Thanks for sharing. Your videos are quite informative. I find myself searching your videos for help and suggestions on a variety of plant topics. Keep up the good work.
I've started to come into conclusion that if I BUY a plant, it has pests. Really, every time I've bought a plant from the store it has had pests, which I only notice after few weeks... generally when I get a plant from a friend there are never pests but somehow the plant stores just have them... So I'm not too keen on buying those. Succulents have had those white creepy crawlers in the roots, croton had spider mites, and the rest aphids or fungus gnats😅 I find it super hard to notice if a plant has pests because if it had something noticeable wrong with it I would never buy it. It can have microscopic eggs hidden somewhere but the store staff has made some effort to get rid of the adult ones? Last summer I bought over a 50cm tall croton petra costing 30€, which is super expensive to me, and it turned out later it had spider mites. I won't give up. I'm fighting. Those have come back several times but I think the croton looks good. I admit I have used ☠️chemical mass destruction weapons☠️ in this war, but so far only the mites have suffered from it.
That little peperomia you picked up at the beginning of the video had brown spots under its leaves. Is that normal or no? I bought one (actually three plants in one pot) and the spots are getting worse, and one of the plants completely died. I haven't dug into the soil yet, but I can't figure out if it has a virus/pests or if those spots are normal. I've been digging online for info but haven't found a definitive answer. Thanks in advance!
Just checked my peperomia and there a few brown markings but nothing significant. Sounds like you might have a pest issue such as spider mites? Is there any fine webbing anywhere? They send to suck the sap from the leaves and leave brown or yellow marks.
@@SheffieldMadePlants I just checked and I saw some webbing 😞 The spots are worse and it's looking pretty bad. I have it isolated from the others, so hopefully they won't be affected. Not sure if it can be saved but I'll try. Thank you!
