Those who think Morbid Angel was lame in the Tucker Era are dumb AF. Formulas Fatal to the Flesh is that band at its PEAK! Pete and Trey in their prime playing as fast and brutal as they can with Killer riffs and songwriting chops. You all need to go back and jam that record.

You guys should do a proto-metal lock horns showcasing songs that are considered heavy and pre-date Black Sabbath by a year or 2, I could name you a few: Art - think i'm going weird (1967 The Damnation of Adam Blessing- cookbook Raw Meat - stand by my girl(1969 Bacchus- carry my load(1969) Snow -sunflower (1969) Autosalvage - the great brain robbery(1968) Arthur Brown- fire (1968) And of course the pretty things! A lot of these bands had dark imagery dealt with dark subject matter as well so I think it will make for an interesting discussion

@princealigorna7468
@princealigorna7468 2 года назад
I enjoyed Scars of the Crucifix myself, especially the title track, but that album was a complete reinvention for the band. Jack Owen and Ralph Santolla upped the level of technicality and melody significantly, while Asheim as always was just the human metronome that kept everything focused and centered, while Benton's bass playing had more oomph in the mix than it had had in a long time, and his vocals were on fire! If you don't listen to "Homage For Satan" and think it's one of the best death metal songs you've ever heard you don't have ears. Hell, take the rest of the song out of it and just listen to both Santolla and Owens' solos and tell me those aren't some of the tastiest death metal solos ever played!

Im bummed I missed this episode. Deicide's Stench of Redemption is the death metal album of the 2000's. The riffs are just fucking heavy, fast, and catchy as hell. Ralph Santolla(RIP) and Jack Owen soloed thier way into my heart and the Hoffmans departure was celebrated. Glen Bentons voice got deeper. Homage to Satan need I say more? Vital Remains Dechristianized great pick but Icons of Evil should of got a nod too.

Rebaelliun was a great addition to the early 2000's for sure. Had that Krisiun punishment. No one brough up ASPHYX-Death.... The Brutal Way. Frightmare blew the shit out of alot of bands and made death metal super fun again. ANATA? FUNEBRARUM was crushing that old school sound. SLUGATHOR? THE CHASM is wicked underrated for sure. THE RAVENOUS just kept that NECROPHAGIA sound alive with a star studded line up. SINISTER? MOLEVALENT CREATION with their last album featuring Brett. So many gems. CIRCLE OF DEAD CHILDREN brought a brutality like no other. Who else deep down did you feel should have been a part of this? DECREPITAPH?

I’d rather listen to them talk about a band that hasn’t been beaten to death for the last 20 years
@danielblake1537
@danielblake1537 2 года назад
@@Noise_Collector really?....u think Death is THAT popular where they've talked about them too much on here? I feel like although some metal mags/websites definitely show love to Death for being one of the early pioneers of Death metal but I still feel like there's not enough on Death compared to say like Metallica and thrash groups. But to each their own! But I have a very picky taste when it comes to metal music...like the the "essential" death metal albums they chose I'm not a big fan of the majority of those bands for one reason or another. Same thing with Thrash bands I loved early Metallica but couldnt get into the other bands that were "huge" at that time. But to me Death just had something special going for them i.m.o. the way Chuck and the others put songs together with catchy riffs and evil sounding solos that were memorable and still to this day I try to find other bands similar in sound to Death but really havent had any luck. I love BoltThrower, Gruesome, some parts of Slayer songs, never could really get into Morbid Angel I wish I could figure out what it is exactly I love about Death & Metallica compared to their contemporaries.
@Noise_Collector
@Noise_Collector 2 года назад
@@danielblake1537 Death is the main band that anyone who knows anything about death metal talks about at some point, they've been debated as originators of death metal along with Possessed practically since Scream Bloody Gore came out, everybody's got a Death album in their top 5 or 10 or whatever, they're one of the most digestible bands for new listeners so everybody gets into them at some point as well. Death is basically just the Metallica of death metal without ever truly selling out, i just think the later albums are kinda lame, but that's just me. It's rad that they've had such longevity and wrote killer music, but it'd be cool to see some bands that rarely, if ever, get brought up get a little exposure instead of one of the biggest and well known bands in death metal.
@danielblake1537
@danielblake1537 2 года назад
@@Noise_Collector yea, I can understand that. And yea agree Death are kinda what Metallica was to Thrash maybe that's why I enjoy them so much compared to the more Asymmetrical style of their contemporaries who seemed to play less melodic, and not as "digestible" riffs i.m.o..... Because even though I love old Metallica and Death after awhile I get tired of trying to study the guitar riffs and solos and hearing the same albums/songs over and over again no matter how much I like them. If you play something long enough you can get tired of it....but cant really get into the other "big" bands in Thrash & Death Metal no matter how much I try to, I dont know what it is but those 2 bands stand out among the rest regardless of notoriety & popularity they just knew how to put catchy riffs together without compromising the heaviness. But the 2 main things that usually ends up turning me off from other bands is either the vocalist I cant get into, but mainly the songs/riffs and the way they put them together just doesnt sound badass to me. Like some groups have that magic and others i.m.o. are lacking it.

Poor Nile, such amazing band and they just cannot get themselves into any of the lists. Because I do not feel they do belong into Tech Death either. The music is technical but that is mostly because of their use of middle eastern melodies/scales, not because of complex scale and timing wankery with lots of skill but no soul. I do not like Tech Death in general but I do love Nile, one of my favourite bands actually. They've got to belong in SOME list!

What did they put out in the last 15 years of so that's essential though? They've only done like 3 albums. One was good, but pretty standard. One had a good single that was just one giant fake-out to get you to buy an Genitorturers album in disguise (a subpar one at that), and the new one is certainly a return to full on raging death metal and a better album than the previous one by many hundreds of miles...but the mix is garbage. Edit: I forgot Gateways, which is a really good album. Still not sure it's an ESSENTIAL album though

Prince Aligorna “Formulas Fatal To The Flesh,” & any album they did before that, & like you said, “Gateways Of Annihilation,” and “Heretic” isn’t horrible, but I’ll admit not up to par with older albums. All in all though Morbid Angel has a super solid catalogue.

I'd say specially to the South America scene, but indeed to the whole world, KRISIUN's Conquerors of Armageddon was a huge an influential landmark. Not to mention the push forward in terms of speed.

COB: melodeath, whoever identifies this as thrash should reevaluate his hearing skills. Aborted: too much grind influence imo

COD is more of a speed metal band, aren't they? I guess in this era they could be melodeath. I've also seen black metal. But I'm not sure about any of that. To me, they sound more like a power metal cum thrash outfit, and to me that's the definition of speed metal.

Wish I caught this live, so many underrated bands from the late 90's and early 2000's deserve credit for their contributions to the genre. I agree with about half the picks, but here's some others that I feel should be here: Behemoth 'Thelema 6' for being the start of their new direction after some transitional albums; Damnable 'Completely Devoted' for having super brutal riffs that are still at a creative high point the genre hasn't attempted since; HateWave 's/t' for it's super fast take on slightly tech-y Slayer worship; Fate of Icarus 'Cut Your Throat Before They Do' for a grindier take on evil DM riffs and punishing transitions; Deranged 'S/t' for being so rough and with those alien drum patterns in between all the blasting; Rebaelliun 'Bringer of War' MLP Have you heard the intro riff for the title track? Ridiculous; Hate Eternal 'King of All Kings' for showing us that fast music can still be dynamic; Sadistik Exekution 'Fukk' I don't like the drum sound, but their patented formula of hyper DM has yet to be matched; Portal 'Outre' is the intro to the band for most of us, and possibly still their best work before they got tech-y and started trying too hard at times. A weird wonder; Incantation 'The Infernal Storm' for showing all of us a great transition to modern McEntee while still showing off classic DM riffs like those on 'Sempiternal Pandemonium'; Akercocke 'Choronzon' is their best balanced album with some great guitar tone. Saw them with Behemoth and TBDM right after and they murdered both of those bands by a mile. Finally, for pure DM I would also add Commit Suicide 'Synthetics' where they synthesized the Death-worship riffs with a new ability to transmogrify their riffs within the songs into new versions of themselves and increase the shelf life of the tunes that utilized the new style.

I wish there was more consensus about the really good death metal acts after the 90's. With the early death metal episode, this was easy but I feel like this episode was all over the place. I think people just aren't really as passionate about later death metal in general. It's a shame.
