@@HanC. high school is ok but I prefer the younger kids as it’s easier to see progress. High school kids are often too busy with government standardized testing etc to take international subjects seriously.

The lack of native English speakers willing to live in China , stricter policies , rising tensions between the west and China etc. I just don’t see it lasting much longer. There was a high demand but now the demand is becoming less and less.

in the seven years I was in china, the whole time they said: this will change, that will change, will implement this or that and they never really do, I think the fact is this: its not like they need foreign educators because they can hire their own folks, its that they want and there is a demand for foreign educators and all these rules, etc. just hinders the process of getting them, so these rules are never really set in stone within the exception of maybe more so in the prominent international schools

Yeah , it’s quite unpredictable really. You can’t make any assumptions at all when it comes to policy here.

Thank you for the great content as always 🙏. In your expert opinion John, do you think getting a teachers license in your country on top of your degree( if education is not your original mastering), is worth it? Especially in the video where you mention about a possible introduction of this law. I ask this as, financially for a newcomer to China, will this benefit them salary wise and overall.

Yes , it may be required in the near future but even if not required it will give you a better salary 100% for sure no matter what country you decide to teach in.

Just wondering since universities start in September. How do you get a one year contract that pays for the full year with full summer pay? Mostly I see September through June, 10 months, sometimes till July, 11 months. Thank you for the video!

This really depends on the school. All the schools I’ve ever worked at paid me for winter and summer as well as a contract completion bonus. Not all schools offer this but it’s not rare. If it’s not offered I’d still apply since it’s all negotiable. I’ve negotiated that into my contract several times.

China wants to limit learning English because it's a gateway language. They don't want these kids learning it because they learn it to leave. They want to retain people, not train them to leave. The best pay is in the Middle East - turkey, UAE, and Arabia. You can make decent money in seoul, but you wont have as nice an apartment.

no, I've never been to chengdu and don't know anyone there. I mostly know people in southern china. it's easier to just use an agent and tell them what city you prefer.
