This week I am upgraded the Fj to something I have wanted for a VERY long time! PowerBrake! This the PowerBrake D-Line kit. This is an easy swap that can be done by anyone, as it is just a quick part replacement that takes your brake system to another level! I will dive into the performance benefits of these brakes for off road and overland use.
Powerbrake SPECIFICALLY and ONLY makes 4x4 brakes. This is their specialty, and it shows.

This is gold!!! I had huge brake fade on my tundra build. Factory pads and slotted rotors I found was the ticket to battle brake fade. I even tried brembo pads and they did not hold up. Brake fluid was also a major factor. Brake fluid needs to be done every year in our overland rigs. It’s cheap to do and moisture is a constant issue. Brembo 5.1 fluid is the best I found and is compatible with dot 3-4

The internal cooling vanes play a huge part in cooling. Curved vanes will pump air through more efficiently and cool the rotors better than straight vane. Stoptech makes OEM replacement rotors with curved vanes and most BBKs come with rotors that have curved vanes.

I'm going to say "Thank You" ... I have done the brakes on vehicles lots, but you points about slotted and drilled Rotors was a "I NEVER EVEN THOUGHT OF THAT!" moment. I don't have any, or didn't plan on getting any, but it was still a great little tidbit of info. Especially how they get plugged with mud.... Maybe that's part of your squeaking you spoke of, it would make sense. Great points right there. Definately didn't think of the cracking thing. I even think of that with the diff on occasion.

I had ToyTec Denver put the D Line on my Taco as soon as they came out. I’ve been super pleased with the upgrade. Noticeably better initial bite and stopping confidence. Seem to feather better too where OEM felt more digital (all or nothing). Would have been fine splurging for the full big brake kit but didn’t want to change rims (to min 17s required to clear) and tires just to fit the new calipers.

That was part of my reasoning as well as price. I would rather buy wheels for the new truck since it will be my primary work horse soon. Trying to limit my spending on the Fj to some extent, while still not neglecting things I really needed.

The other good thing about the D-Line kit is that you can go with a smaller wheel. On the X-Line the caliper is larger so you might have to go with an 18" wheel instead of a 17" wheel.

I’d like to possibly install a set on my 5th gen. 4runner, sounds like it’s the perfect solution for towing also.

My favorite thing I learned from Delon at PowerBrake is that Toyota is a PAYING customer for their liquid cooled brakes Toyota uses on their Dakar race cars. Not sponsored. That should tell you everything you need to know about how awesome the company and theirs brakes are.

Those are nice rotors. I will look into it and see if they make those for a wrangler. I might need to do an upgrade soon. They will definitely be more useful on the trails with my 35s, than my stock brakes. 😊 As far as sway bars, I upgraded mine to Apex auto disconnects.

Apex is next level! Yes, I am pretty positive these are made for your Jeep! For an off road specific brand, they need to cover their bases and Jeep is definitely at the top of the list I’m sure!

I’m so stoked they make a more affordable option than the 3 piston caliper setup. Which is badass, don’t get me wrong. I really love their quality but atm I just can’t afford dumping $2k + into a full big brake upgrade, ya know?

I bought the X-line for the front of the FJ and the D-line for the rear. Have yet to install but should be a considerable difference. I've also never flushed the brake fluid since I bought it new in 2014. So with the new brake fluid plus brake system I hope to never have brake fade again as I am also heavy like yourself. It's not a daily driver as I only have around 50k on the odometer.

used it coming down mountain passes yesterday and didnt notice any brake fade at all. Its a pass I almost always down shift for, but I didnt just to use the brakes a bit. I will be using them off road in the next several weeks I hope!

Does it also help to replace the regular brake fluid with one that is designed to withstand higher temperature ?, also is it possible to do away with the repetitive music in the background, its very distracting when trying to concentrate on what you are saying 👍👍

Yes, brake fluids do help. I replaced mine several years ago.
