Great tips. I went from outside portraits to studio shoots about a year ago. What a freakin’ difference!!!I went from 2 soft boxes and a strobe to 9 available lights. Lighting options in the studio 🤯. I used to stress and sweat like crazy. Actually the model was great she said “calm down …you are good …do your thing”. Good topic outside of gear. My tip that work for me is share posing suggestions with the model before the session. I want rapport before the shoot. I don’t want the first interaction to be the shoot. Models have a vision of what makes them look best. I never touch the model. Good advice
I've never done Studio or Portrait but those are definitely very good tips, thanks!. I bought the RF85 1.2L recently so I could dabble in Portrait with my friends at some point and see how I get on, see if I can get my head around it.
Very good tips. Women for the most part don't have to care about touching the model, but for men is a fundamental skill. Having a storyboard could help, and learning to draw human figurines can help too. Most of the time words are more than enough. Humans make dogs understand them, surely we can do with other humans.
I don't agree about the women thing. I've had models complain to me about women photographers who were too handsy. I think women can get away with it more, sure. But just learn who to direct without touching. Women are just as capable of this skill as men and shouldn't be lazy about it. It' just unprofessional to put your hands on someone if you don't need too. Doesn't matter if you're a man or a woman doing it. Storyboards are definitely great.
