Extremely helpful. I am drawn to these types of colors but don’t need lots of duplicates. This helped me to see which ones are similar enough to ones I already own and also now I have a few on my list to purchase!
My go to is the Essie gel in Fairy tailor. It is the most perfect sheer nude pink and it looks good even with one coat. No streaks and gives a hint of color. I have a light to medium olive skin tone.
Essie rules when it comes to sheer polishes!! I just got Essie Sugar Daddy and I love it 😍 put some little sticker decals on a few nails and it came out so cute! I do not want to remove my manicure.
Hi Morella! Thank you kindly. You honestly made my day today! We are doing the kind of videos l would be interested seeing. I’m glad you find it helpful :))
I got mademoiselle recently and I can’t stop wearing it it’s the perfect natural looking perfecting polish 💗 I got a couple ideas for colors to try from this video as well, thank you for doing these comparisons. I am very picky with my nail polishes and these videos really help me see which colors I will actually enjoy!
You are in your element Ana with with these sheer polishes!! I can tell these are your favorite type of shades to wear. Makes me want to wear Essie Ballet Slippers. It’s one of the very few sheer polishes I own.
The closeups of both 1 & 2 coats as well as doing them in color order was so helpful to see. Also showing the nails next to the other colors in the same lighting was another great touch.
Watching your videos makes me want to be a someone’s nail model for a day!! My fav is sheer fantasy! I love to see the smile line and the tips still peaking through ❤️❤️❤️
Great video, thank you! 🥰 I have some ridgy nails and I find that 2 coats of base coat can go a long way with polishes that can't cover the ridges. In my experience, the best way to disguise ridges is with shimmery sheers. The TLC line has a few good ones, like Loving Hue, but I also love Last Nightie from the Gel Couture line. Otherwise, I generally avoid the "milky" ones and go for the more translucent ones, with the so-called jelly formula. Essie Sugar Daddy (regular line) is an all-time winner! 💗 Happy New Year to you both! 🥂
Mademoiselle is a winner. I had been looking for a Essie polish I had years ago that had a very slight shimmer and it seems Sheer luck is the closest as I guess they discontinued the one I had. Another helpful vt and thanks for helping the dogs and being good sports ❤️🐾
I have extremely ridgy nails and mademoiselle is my favorite milky sheer shade! It makes my nails look very healthy and it doesn't emphasize my ridges :D
Regarding what’s my favorite… the husband 😂😂😂 he reminds me my husband complaining because of pink color and saying “I don’t see color in the nails, they look just wet, is it dusty too? I’m awake, I’m not moving!” Hahahahahahahhh
Thank you again for this video. Helped me to pick Sheer Luck, Ballet Slippers were really streaky for me so I returned them. I am thinking of getting other Essie colours as well based on your videos. :-) Thank you again, it helps saving a lot of money. :-) Have a great weekend.
My go-to sheer pink is always Hi-Maintenance but it’s awesome to see how the other options look on real nails. Maybe I’ll branch out and try another one or two lol
That's interesting! I wore it too after I removed gel polish and switched to regular polish. My nails are amazing now. Super healthy. I've heard from other people that TLC worked for them. Do you think it's TLC or the damage simply grew out?
Great videos! I'm wearing Sheer Luck right now but I also have Gossamer Garments, too. Next on my list to buy will be Mademoiselle and Vanity Fairest. My favourite colours are bright red/orange but I also like the sheer colours, too. And I love Lincoln Park After Dark from OPI!
also me at 4:21 "oh it's beautiful" (all look the same to my hubby when I swatch my polishes too) LOL. my favourite sheer pink is Essie Gel Couture Fairy Tailor, the one you were trying to remember.
I have no luck with fairy tailor. First coat goes on beautiful and second coat turns streaky. Tried doing top coat with one 1 coat of colour and still turns streaky. Think it might be my application. So frustrating! I really want to get into polish but I’m so used to gel polish because the application is so flawless every time!
This video makes me want to go out and buy all of these shades- I love a sheer pink manicure. My biggest issue is that my natural nails can have a yellow-ish undertone ( I am assuming from too much polish) and that yellow really destroys the look of a beautiful sheer pink. I've been using Mademoiselle, Ballet Slippers and Vanity Fairest for a few years now, and I always seem to have that problem 😥
Love your video’s! You do a fantastic job showing a nice range of similar colors/theme’s. For a Virgo geek like me it’s all about distinction - I notice the subtlest differences, and often hunt around extensively because I’ve got a color/hue/finish in mind. Dig that you’re similarly focused - you’re truly a treasure of a resource for persnickety folks like me. Kudos to your hand model - he’s patient, and seems quite fond of you. Have you ever buffed his nails, or your own? Doing so leaves a perfectly smooth surface by eliminating ridges. They feel neat to the touch, too.
Hi Tiffany. Thank you for the kind words. We do not buff natural nails, in fact we strongly discourage it. Buffing the nails thins the nail plate. We have a video were we talk about it in a bit more detail. You can watch it here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-iLpqAnfLsew.html Thanks!
@@TheSalonLife Thanks for your reply, and the heads up. Good to know - I could of buffed my way into a thin pickle. Thanks again for your fantastic videos - your Channel is a gem!
inside scoop used to be my absolute favorite, i adored it. sadly one day i must have not closed it properly and it turned into a dry gooey mess and the polish doesnt actually seem to be available anymore in my country sadly. Thank you for the extensive showcase of these polishes ! :)
Thanks for the video, sheer pinks are my absolute favorite! I love inside scoop and mademoiselle the most. I have essie’s shade “sugar daddy” which is kind of like if inside scoop and mads had a baby. Essie shades tend to get gloopy and bubbly on me though (maybe I just got a bad bottle). I ordered sally Hansen’s rosy quartz which is more affordable and another pretty sheer pink so hopefully that will have a better formula on me.
thank you! As we can only shop online here in the UK this is so helpful. For me it's Ballet Slipper all the way. I have been looking for this exact shade for so long!
I currently have or have had 9 out the 12 polishes you featured! Vanity Fairest was my first ever Essie and still one of my all time faves. Also really love Gossamer Garments and Inside Scoop (currently wearing Inside Scoop right now). Wondering if you or any of your viewers had any issues with Inside Scoop fading over time (even though I keep it in a drawer). That polish out of all of them seems the most fade-sensitive and it also shows in the drug stores; the older ones are very faded. Love your videos!
Hi Cat! My Inside Scoop is still pretty pink and hasn’t faded but my Sheer Fantasy did. I loved it so much that I got few bottles and the extra ones in the drawer faded a bit too ;(. Pink pigments tend to fade sadly. That goes for polish and gel and gel polish too. Even pink acrylic tends to fade after while. It also happens with Dazzle Dry.
@@TheSalonLife Thanks for your comment and good to know (though it's frustrating) that pink pigments fade. As a pale pink nail polish fan, that really sucks. Have a good night!
Yes, my two bottles of Inside Scoop have faded. I'm afraid to buy new ones without seeing them because I fear they too will be faded. This one and Orly Scenic Route both suffer from the se problem sadly 😥
I have High Maintenance and Mademoiselle but mine have their older skinny round brush so with that they are very streaky, I need to buy new bottles with the new brush. Also I prefer to see 12 over 10 because the more the better 😂
OMG, I hate the small brushes. That is the reason why I haven’t gotten into Essie till now. Thank you for your vote reg 10/12. I honestly sometimes have hard time choosing just 10 :)
Just bought new nail polish calls PERFECT FORMULA nail treatment to help strenghten my nails hopefully! your selective brands of nail polishes are very good indeed! just feel like chatting with you. so .... the polishes I just bought, would you say it might work nicely for very weak nails for so many customers as well? thanks so much !
I really having problems with streak nails: not sure if it's the polish or my nails. First, I didn't use a base coat, applied my sheer nail polish, then I applied a matte polish, finished it with sheer nail polish (Dior Ruban) still streaks. I tried again, polished my nails with a base coat and used sheer nail polish and finished with a topcoat....still streaks even worse. Finally, I applied ridge nail (Formala X) filler as a base coat and two coats sheer nail polish my nails didn't streaks this time. This time, I used OPI Coney Cotton Candy.
I don't really get it with sheer polish, but some of these intrigued me. Not enough to buy any, LOL, especially with my diabetic disaster nails. but I'm starting to get the appeal now.
Inside Scoop for a "gel" polish and Mademoiselle for a standard polish. I love the ones with more white to them, but they do not look good with my skin tone.
These Essie brushes are much thicker than they used to be! I still have mademoiselle with the very skinny long brush and I hate it lol makes it looks streaky even if the formula is nice
As usual, Love the video and his enthusiasm about getting all lacquered up lol. Do you have any recommendations for a treatment that can grow nails and is shiny?
I will be doing a video about nail health and treatments etc very soon. According to my viewers the Essie TLC works. They also have a clear version. I will be testing it soon. Here is my affliate link: amzn.to/3pFlstX
Hi Carol, I hate to say this but it really depends. We'd have to see your hands IRL to give a proper suggestion. For instance we could have 6 different people that are fair skinned like yourself and have different suggestions for each. Sorry we couldn't be of better help. We hope you have a great day! - MSL
I love this swatch video thank you 😊. I didn’t realize that ballet slippers and madenmoiselle are so different. People made it sound like they are very similar. Do both need 3 coats?
Hi Michele! I usually apply 2 coats because 3 often take way too long to dry and majority of people don't have the patience for 3 coats. The color must be amazing for me to do 3 with the exception of Dazzle Dry, because it dries so fast and applies so thin that 3 thin coats sometimes are a good idea anyway.
This is so helpful, I've been a fan of Vanity Fairest + Marshmallow for a DIY French manicure for years and I was looking for something a little different. I think I'll pick up Sheers To You and Sheer Luck. You mentioned a blue-flash color you wore on your toes, would you mind letting me know what that was?
I’ve tried Ballet Slippers, and it’s horribly streaky. No matter what I do. Also, Essie isn’t cruelty free (which I hadn’t realised when I bought it) so this is a no-no for me.
Hi there! What do you mean cruelty free? Not tested on animals? I don’t think any cosmetic companies test on animals in EU and USA/Canada. Some brands use “cruelty free” as a fear marketing label. Insinuating that other cosmetic brands are cruel to animals.
@@TheSalonLife Some brands do test on animals. Some of these brands don’t conduct any animal testing themselves, but fund animal testing by selling their products in mainland China. This clearly means they can’t call themselves cruelty-free. I mentioned Essie, but others are (big sellers) OPI and Chanel. Loads of others. Others are not only cruelty free (no testing on animals anywhere in their supply chains, and they don’t sell in mainland China) but are also vegan. Barry M is cruelty free (and vegan) and you’ve tested Essence (cruelty free). Lots of others are CF and /or vegan.
Hi there, great video by the way, but my concern is that I read an article today that showed that a dark stripe on a nail is a melanoma. May I suggest that your friend gets this checked out? Best wishes to you and your friend.
Hi Allison! Thank you so much for your concern! You are correct, although I would never attempt to try to diagnose melanoma can show up as a dark stripe that is permanent and goes through the whole length of the nail. Sometimes (very often) it’s splinter hemorrhage. Are you talking about the ring finger of the left hand?
@@TheSalonLife Hi there, thank you for your prompt response. I’m not medically qualified, but I didn’t want to just leave this, given that it had come to my attention when I read an article today where someone had removed gel polish after wearing it without a break for several months and noticed a similar mark to that on your friend’s ring finger on the left hand. And this was diagnosed as a melanoma (I think). I should have said that I’m not medically qualified, but thought that perhaps it would be best to have it checked. I appreciate that time has passed since you posted the video, so hopefully it is/was a splinter.
Hi Allison! You are right, this is an important topic and we need to talk about it. We’re you talking about the ridgy nail on the left hand (ring finger) or another nail? This is an old video and can’t remember what was going on. Splinter hemorrhage doesn’t usually run from underneath the cuticle. It starts usually closer to the free edge. When the nail is growing out you can also see that the line is in the nail not on the nail bed. You can see the dried up blood on the underside of the nail when you turn it upside down.
I still can’t decide on which one to use on toenails. What was the one you wore all last summer that you mentioned in the video? I am a new subscriber and will be binge watching. xo
Hi Bing! I loved the Essie TLC Treat Me Bright. Not streaky at all. 2-3 easy coats, no base and no top (although top coat can be added for additional shine)
Thank you for sharing the colors. I have tried Ballet Slippers out of 2 bottles and they both went streaky on me. This is Queen Elizabeths fave colour. My fave is Vanity Fairest but I can not find it now. I hope it is not discontinued.
Hi Ruth! I've seen Vanity Fairest around, I don't think is discontinued, I hope not :) Do you have bottles with the new, wide brushes or the small, thin ones? The wide brushes make the polish apply so much better.
I bought Ballet Slippers a couple of years ago when people were raving on it, then discovered it had streaky application, causing it to require multiple coats to look good, which increased dry time... Meh. If I wanted all of that trouble, I'd buy kids' nail polish, though I've used some kids' nail polish that was better than Ballet Slippers.
I bought Ballet Slippers because it’s a classic sheer polish, but I was really disappointed. It goes on streaky, so you end up adding more layers which defeats the point of a sheer nail polish.
Same. I literally bought a bottle today and put on two coats. meh. its way too streaky. (Target. Thin/old brush.) Watching your vid made me want to try Sheer Luck and Skinny Dip for the sheer coverage. I also like TLC Minimally Modest.
I ordered the sheer luck shade, but when I got it it looked way more pink than white, almost identical to the essie ballet slippers. When I went to a store, I compared two "Sheer Luck" labelled polishes and I noticed a big difference: one was pink-ish and one was white. Do you know if they changed their formula?
Hi Neri! They could be fading. Many light pinks fade a bit. That happens all across the brands. Apparently the pink/red color pigments tend to be unstable
@@TheSalonLife Thank you for the reply! Would you say your bottle specifically faded? Because I saw some other Sheer Luck labelled polishes with identical white-ish color while some other were more pink. I am though a bigger fan of the white pearl version 😊😊
Hi Amy! There is nothing that is exactly the same, sadly. The most similar would be Bouquet but it’s more milky and lighter. Beau is more pink but it has a slight shimmer. I sometimes do a coat of Beau and coat of Bouquet. I have a video of it but it’s not edited. I will work on it :)
@@TheSalonLife Yeah, sorry, I guess I mean there are some coats that doesn't look that shiny. It looks clean, but not as shiny as normal polish, it's not so obvious that you have shiny nail polish on. An example would be Essie "get it bright". So, I thought maybe you have a variety of those to show... 😉
Sanding/buffing to remove the ridges would really damage the nail. A very light buff just to remove shine might be OK but to remove layers can be detrimental to nail condition. Ridge fillers don't really work that well on ridges like this unless you maybe apply 5 coats and even then.... :)
I think I had a clear polish then. Most likely a brightener like Dior Nail Glow or Trind. My nails are quite pale so it often looks like I have a sheer white polish on. To get that look you can use Isadora Nail Whitener. I have a video about brighteners here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jvl2ASMkCVY.html
