I loved this video, Erika, and I agree with you... providing structure and parameters have worked for me in the past and I'm ready to revisit them. I had stopped my regular sketching and painting habit over the winter and recently focused on just creating some art daily, but now that I'm back in the swing of things I am inspired by your video to set some specific things I'll work on. Really enjoyed watching and listening to you, as always and loved your toast in particular! Had me salivating! Thanks again

Excellent points. I have so many interests, I excel at none of the them. Because I teach at a library. I have to be well-rounded, but I feel I am at the time in my life for narrowing down my work into just a couple of mediums. You have set me straight!

Hi, Donna! Thanks so much for watching and for taking the time to leave a comment. Means the world. I've always admired people who can do multiple things well. I remember, as a little girl, admiring Shel Silverstein so much because he wrote his books and also created illustrations for these books. As an adult, I love actors who are also musicians, musicians who can direct movies, and people that do multiple things well. Perhaps they aren't the best of the best, but they are good at it and they make the time for these other passions because it's important to them. I aim to be this way as well, with my art creation and my teaching, for example. And when it comes to art, I don't think I'll ever limit myself to a specific medium or to a specific type of subject. It would make me sad and bored. Growing in multiple directions keeps things fun for me and keeps me from running into art block/burnout. This said, I have limited myself to a handful of things at most, and I give myself enough time to grow in this area before changing to something else. Setting goals and tuning out the noise of the world has also been important for me to stay focused. The older I get, the more I know that I only have a certain amount of hours in a day and I have to use them wisely if I do want to become good at the things I'm passionate about. It's not my goal to be the absolute best, just to improve over time, while prioritizing my happiness and wellbeing. 💛

Since did acrylics for (6 years) & know it better can put off doing my watercolor practice & go right to the acrylics where feel “comfortable”! So reason why learning to do simple drawing (shapes) as they pop up everywhere & found as beginner go smaller at first. Ty.
