You have to also think about the time this actual shooting happened instead of when they finished editing and everything!! American Boy came out in two thousand and eight!! So it was roughly eleven/twelve years from the shooting....

I remember when I was little she came to my summer camp HSA and we sang American Boy for her and she started crying. We all felt so accomplished lol and when she left we all fought to go sit in the seat she was sitting in.
